My favorite (?) litter story was in WDW years ago, somebody dropped a flashcube on the ground close to a trash can. I sincerely thought that he had dropped the cube by mistake, so I hurried over, being helpful, picked it up and handed it back to him saying "You dropped this." I got a glare in return. It took a few minutes before it dawned on me that the man had simply littered rather than extend his arm a foot and drop the cube into the trash.

It is not just Disney but an overall mentality of people. Just look at the side of your local highway. There are always editorials in the paper here about how dirty the trains are... papers, coffee cups, beer cans, etc... and how the trains are not cleaned enough. Who do you they think is leaving the papers, coffee cups, beer cans, etc... your fellow passengers. I know I always pass 2 or 3 garbage cans after getting off the train but people are just too lazy to take there garbage with them.

When I go to eat at fast food I always take my garbage to the can. For the most part, the trash can is on the way to the exit anyway.

When we are out for fast food like Subway or Wendy's, if the dining area isnt packed (someone litterally waiting for our table, a common thing at our mall's food court), I WILL leave my tray right there on the table for someone who is paid to clear the table/ clean up to do their job. DH thinks I'm rude for not cleaning up, but in that case I disagree.

Yes it is rude! I don't work in the food court, but I do work at a mall, and I hear that all day long! I do have other responsibilities than cleaning up after people who act like swine! And what kind of example are you setting for your children? Gee wiz, why can't people be nice and clean up after themselves? L A Z Y!!!!

We sat beside the "Sloppy Pig Family" of all time at Pecos Bills a few weeks ago. They had about 5 kids under 5 between 2 couples and there was more food on the floor than on our table. The parents just sat and watched as their kids kept throwing stuff on the floor. As they were packing up to leave a Cm came over with the broom. The parents were still there so I made sure to tell the CM that cleaning up that mess should not be his job and he should just hand the broom to one of them. They ignored me and didn't even bother to apoligize for the mess to the CM. It just blows my mind that people would even consider doing this.

I follow the old Girl Scout camping rule...leave a place cleaner than when you arrived.

We couldn't agree with this more. We try to always pick up after ourselves and keep our mess to a minuimum. If I notice we have been a bit sloppy at say a counter service place, it seems only right for me to wipe the table down a bit and such. I would hate for someone to sit down after me and think I was a oinkie oinkie or something.

I think most people just have the attitude that is should be someone elses job. I used to work with physicians and I had trash issues with them as well. I started posting and telling them that I wasn't their mother and that she didn't work here so they needed to pick up after themselves, it worked.

While in the parks or just out and about I do have a rule with the sweetpea though........if you touch it, its yours. When the sweetpea was a lot younger she would kick trash, like cups, for fun and then just leave them there when done. I didn't want people thinking it was my trash and I was allowing her to litter, so if she touched it, she was responsible for putting it in the can. This stopped her from playing silly games with trash on the ground, and made her more aware of littering and being responsible with your garbage.

One thing that always amazes me is how many people can't pee "IN" the toilet. It's so disgusting to go in a stall only to see pee all over the toilet seat.

As for people leaving messes behind for others to clean up, that's just pathetic. It's amazing how many people there are that just have no class or manners whatsoever.

I know it happens the 'other' way, but sometimes those splashes you see all over the seat are actually from the 'turbo toilets' at Disney. They splash all over the seat, too.

You said that right in front of the pigs AND the CM? I'm impressed! Good for you! I wouldn't have had the guts. You rock, Hockey Mom!

I would never throw anything anywhere besides a trash can and that goes triple plus for WDW. When I was growing up you always would see PSA's about not littering. "Every litter bit hurts", the Native American with one tear down his cheek looking at trash, Don't be a litterbug, etc. Don't see those kind of ads anymore. I think it comes down to people are just plain more rude these days and more self-centered.

it happens all over the place, my yard always has crap in it from neighbors or people driving buy. soda cans, ciggaret boxes,lighters, ect.. drives me nuts. espcially when mowing the lawn, gotta keep checking for stuff like that.

I totally agree!!! There are too many people who feel that "it isn't MY job", when it wouldn't be any more effort on their part just to drop their trash in the garbage can. Who cares if someone else is "paid" to do it. Just because they are paid to pick up after inconsiderate slobs doesn't mean you have to be one of those inconsiderate slobs.

My biggest pet peeve - smokers who throw their cigarette butts on the ground or out their car windows. And these are often times people who would never even consider dropping a gum wrapper or a napkin on the ground because that would be littering. CIGARETTE BUTTS ARE GARBAGE TOO!!!!

It's always the worst though, when the seat has wet spots, so you wipe it down and assume it's from an overactive toilet. Then...you flush the toilet and find out that it doesn't splash at all! Ew! I hate it when that happens to me...honestly, I don't know what some women do in those bathrooms...it is not difficult to pee INSIDE a toilet!

When we left the theater the other day at DTD, I picked up my trash to throw in the containers on the way out. A lot of people didn't. They just left it there. You have to walk right by the trash container to leave the theater. How lazy can you get?

I am currently having a problem with construction workers building new homes behind mine. When they finish there lunch, they just throw the trash on the ground. Where does it blow? It blows into my yard. I really dislike picking up half eaten things. Yuck!

I too agree regarding ppl not picking up after them self. But then I also have to remind myself that ppl from other countries may not be accustomed to doing so. Example in Russia at McDonald's my brother was reprimanded for attempting to clean up his tray/food/table. As they do have someone that their job is to clean up, so ppl aren't expected to clean up or throw away thru own trash.

so sometimes i wonder if some, noticed i said some, ppl in their own country aren't used to doing this. now for americans especially there is no call for not throwing away you won trash, picking up after yourself etc.....

bugs the ..... out of me to even see someone drop a candy wrapper, napkin or whatever and keep walking leaving it on the ground. at WDW there are trash cans every so many feet, designed by space between by Walt. so its not like they are miles away, they are everywhere.

oh my and look at the bathrooms....... i took pics of one of the bathrooms in Tomorrow Land it was so bad, emailed them to Roy and others at WDW guest services. I can't count how many times i walk out of a bathroom at WDW as its filthy. no reason for this either. if you drop toilet paper, paper towels pick it up.
