slo’s WEDNESDAY 9/4 poll - Liverwurst

This will be an interesting poll today - Liverwurst never gets a lot of love from people. The only reason why I thought about it is because I use it for my dogs to give them a pill, and I’m going to buy some for our little Otis. I want to start giving him some now with no pill, so when I do have a pill in there he won’t think anything of it. So give us your thoughts today…..

What is your opinion of Liverwurst?
If you eat it, do you make a sandwich with it, spread it on crackers or something else?

For Me……I somewhat like it. When I do have it in the house, I’ll spread it on a cracker. I’d never buy it if it weren’t for the dog.

It makes me gag. Texture, smell, no good.

My mother loved it. She ate it on white bread with mayonnaise.

But my husband loves it. He buys it occasionally and spreads it on bread.

I voted "don't like it"... although I have never actually tried it. The name and just seeing it is enough to turn me off.

Never tried it. That's the stuff they first found the listeria in that's causing the current outbreak. So if you have boar's head liverwurst (or many other boar's head products), check your packages and make sure you don't have something that's recalled!

As a kid, we had it. I used to just dig into it with a spoon. But for some reason haven't had it for at least 50 years. Used to eat tons of bologna as a kid too. Last bought that about 10 year ago for grandkid. Hmmm what other foods did I eat as a kid, but don't now????

Just reading this makes me I had a kid I used to babysit when I was a teenager - he was around a year old and he ate it - still have nightmares about him smearing that stuff all over himself and then having to clean him up
I used to use something similar training my dogs when I worked at the kennel and that stuff always made me gag. But the dogs just loved it - then again most dogs will eat just about anything
No I don’t care for liverwurst and can say it’s never in my house

I don't think I've ever had it, but my husband talks about it sometimes. Apparently it was something he had and liked growing up. I've never bought it though, and I don't think he ever has either. I did not even realize it was spreadable. I thought it was like bologna or something.

I've eaten liver in the past, but never liverwurst. Just the idea of it is unappealing.

I've steered clear of all processed meats for quite awhile now, because maybe there aren't enough meat inspectors anymore. But I do love liverwurst in a sandwich with mayo and lettuce.

I grew up eating braunschweiger at my dad's parents on toasted bread with ketchup! So occasionally I will buy a pack of sliced braunschweiger and indulge in some nostalgia. No one else in my family will touch it though.

And I liked it back then, like 70 years ago. But, I've not had any for probably 60 years. Same with sardines. Had them as a kid, liked them, but probably none fir 60 years.

I think it may have become popular during the depression, a low cost meat ptiduct. I'm certainly not that old but my folks were and they were the ones making my sandwiches when I was a kid.

Yuck - no way. My DH does like pate though but he’s kind enough to usually only eat it at restaurants so it doesn’t give cooties to my charcuterie boards at home.

I love it and have it about every 3-6 months on bread with sliced red onions and mustard. I hated it as a child, but now have turned a corner to it.
