Let’s take a deep dive into ourselves today. I think we all have a pretty good idea of how we are. Some of us are optimistic and some of us are pessimistic. I believe we need both in this world - I can’t imagine a world where everyone was one way. Either everyone would be walking around like this :goodvibes or like this :sad2: - I know I wouldn’t like this very much (these emojis are not a perfect representation, but I think you get what I’m trying to show). So how about you? Take a look at yourself and tell us……

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

For Me……I voted 80% optimistic and 20% pessimistic. In all honesty, I’m 90% optimistic and 10% pessimistic (I only have 10 options for the poll). I’m married to a pessimist, which I do believe has been great for our marriage. Sometimes I need to see the pessimistic side of something and sometimes he needs to see the optimistic side of something - we are good for each other. We sometimes gets frustrated with each others views, but that’s ok too. We’ll be married for 30 years next year, so it works for us ❤️🙂👍🏻

I try to be an optimist but I’m more realistic which to some comes across as pessimistic which is not the case it’s based on experience- but I strive to see good outcomes and see good in others!!! Does not always work out well for me but I try not to let it change me !!! I try to set my goals and plans and attack them !!!

Probably like you, Sandy, 90/10 optimist, selected the 80/20 also. Marie often tells me, "get real, Dan"

I chose 80% optimistic. It makes life much more fun to think of the positives. Most things that people worry about never happen, anyway. :)

I picked 20% optimist and 80% pessimist. My first thought is generally the negative and I can "catastrophize," but I try really hard not to let that be my ONLY thought on the matter and not to let all those negative thoughts out into the world.

My parents say I've been like that since I was little. When I was in elementary school, we did a unit on Oliver Twist (the musical) in music class. Apparently, that winter while our family was watching the New Years Eve festivities from Times Square I wondered aloud: "I wonder how pickpockets are in that crowd?"

I picked 80% pessimist.....maybe would be 60 % pessimist, but if being honest with myself, 80% probably right.
Although, I"m always hoping I'll stop being like that, and do endeavor many days to try and not be....so that's some optimism.....
ETA I missed the option for realist, I consider more of a realist, but idk. I'll stick with my answer.

I'm pretty optimistic overall, voted 80/20. I've had close to 40 surgeries, 2 different cancer diagnoses, a stroke, multiple chronic illnesses and I've come through them all and I'm still smiling. Still work full time, very active and adore traveling. I'm going to have my first grandbaby I'm November! When things get rough I try to remind myself that I've survived everything that's been thrown at me. I would preferred to never had any of it happen but I can say it's made me truly appreciate every day and everyone I love. I have 0 issues cutting negative people out of my life. Is my life perfect, no..but it's the only one I get and I plan on living it to the fullest!!!

I wanted to say 80/20 optimist, but if I really look at myself I am not quite that high. But I don't think I am as low as 60/40.

I am somewhere in the middle of those two. 70/30 is probably more like it. Depends on the situation and the day.

I voted 50-50. I wait for an outcome and then deal with results.

Realist.

I’ve been told I’m pessimistic but if I look at a situation and can’t see a positive outcome that’s not really being a pessimist. Seeing rainbows and butterflies about everything is just as bad.

I'm generally very optimistic, but often superstitious. DH is more negative and there are many times where I find myself scolding him for putting bad things out in the universe. My biggest topics where I break pattern from my optimism are weather issues and a variety of unrelated safety worries (school, kids driving, travel, etc.). It's never to the extent of "why bother," but I really embrace the worry and monitoring in these matters...to the point that my superstition also becomes an issue.

I checked off 60/40 but I think I'm closer to 70/30. My wife is definitely very optimistic, probably 95/5 if not 100%. She has the gift of bringing light to a dark day and one of the many reasons why I married her.

I'm a pessimist through and through. It's a component of my mental illness, I guess. Depression and anxiety make it difficult to see the glass as anything but half empty.

I'm like 60/40. I used to joke that I'm not a pessimist, that I'm a realist and the reality is that sometimes like sucks. :p I've become a lot more positive since then. ;)
