Do you have a pet bird?
If yes….what type?
(Multiple choice)

For Me…..I do not, but I used to - a Cockatiel named Mozart (I loved that name for a bird).
He got sick and passed away. There are times I think about getting another one - I love hearing a bird chip. I have the perfect place for a bird cage in this house - in the kitchen where there‘s a sky light and also by a window. Then I remember how messy my floor was with a bird - feathers and seeds - then I think - maybe I don’t want one again - LOL!

I have thought about getting (rescuing) one but remember the morning squawking at my brother’s house and think maybe it’s not such a good idea after all, lol. There’s also something about seeing a bird in a cage that makes me sad, too. If I had one I would want it to have a lot of space and activities. There’s one I see on IG that actually flies outside but comes right back. Idk how safe that is but the bird seems happy!

None right now, but over the years we’ve had about 10 parakeets. The most was 4 at a time.

I was in PetSmart the other day and parakeets were $44.95. I remember my first parakeet from Woolworth’s about 55 years ago was like $5.

I put no, parakeet, and other.

No: Currently, I do not have a bird and with this guy in my house it wouldn’t go well for the bird.

Other: We had three birds at different times growing up. Pete and Maxine, they were together. Then we got Taylor after the two passed away.

Parakeet: Pete, Maxine, and Taylor were all parakeets. Pete and Maxine were blue. Taylor was yellow.

No birds here!! Not sure I ever had a hankering to own a bird.
on a different note, I do hope to own a giant salt water aquarium some day (bucket list) full of colorful
tropic fishes

I have 3 parrots.

Zeppy is a blue and gold macaw. She is ~30 years old. We've had her for 10 years on March 23rd. A friend gave her to us when she started plucking her feathers because he had gotten a puppy. Zeppy lived in a commercial garage (a horrible place for a bird) and when the puppy arrived, everyone stopped fussing over her and started to play with the puppy. She was jealous and showed it by plucking and she stopped talking. When I picked her up to take her home, she started talking and didn't shut up the whole way home.

Everyone thought Zeppy was a boy, however, she started laying eggs about 3-months after she moved into our home. The vet attributed that to better food and a better environment. She has started climbing off of her cage and wandering through the house since my DD carries her around on her shoulder. Since we have a new puppy, we have to only let her out of her cage when we are around to watch her. She used to be out from morning to night. Her favorite thing to do is to play in the blankets on the sofa. She tosses it around and giggles the whole time.

Igor is a jenday conure. He is ~12 years old. We assume that he is a boy since he has never laid an egg and has tried to mount my hand... bad bird. We purchased him from PetSmart as a baby.

To round out our flock, we have Joey, a Timneh African Grey. He (DNA tested, so we know he is a boy) will be 16 on April 3rd. He was rehomed to us when our Congo African Grey, Chief passed away suddenly. My friend's mother was looking for a good home for him because she had cats and was afraid that she wouldn't be able to protect him from them, so he remained in his cage for 5-years before she found us.

All of our birds talk and they pick up new things all the time. Igor has the smallest vocabulary and Joey has the largest. He will only talk when no one is in the room with him. When we are with him, he sits and listens to us and then repeats what he hears when we aren't in the room. It took me 2 weeks to teach him to whistle the chorus of Foo Fighters, My Hero, and he came to us being able to whistle the theme to Hawaii 5-0.

They are all characters in their own right and we love each of them.

Oh, and in memory of Low Key, I will call myself out on this long post. ;)

We had that for ~12 years. It's a lot of work and when built into a wall like ours, the salt will start to crawl up the wall and eat away at the drywall. We had 2 clown fish that wouldn't die, or else we'd have given up the tank years before it started to leak. When it did, we took the fist to PetSmart so they could adopt them out to someone with a saltwater tank. I got to meet their new owner while I was still in the store. I wasn't going to do anything to harm them, so I'm glad that they could find a new tank. Both of the clowns had celebrated 10 birthdays in our tank. I bought the maroon clown for $20 and the sebay clown for $7. That's why they lived so long. All of the $80 fish would live a few months to a year and die. The cheap fish lived forever.

I dunno. My old cat used to be my sister's beforehand, and she had some birds in her apartment - their cage hung above where the sofa and loveseat met, creating a little corner of dead space. When Sylvester, yep, that was his name, was a kitten, he would sit on the couch and stare at them. You could see the wheels turning. Then he'd very calmly walk around the corner into the kitchen, at which point you'd her his paws scrambling on the floor. Woosh! In like a bullet he flew, leaping onto the cage and falling into the pit - they put pillows down there for just this event. Then he'd pop up with a "what the heck?" look on his face, get back on the couch and stare some more, always coming up with the same plan. "Surely it'll work this time!" 🤣

My son loves birds. A few years ago we had a cockatiel - my mom's dog killed him. It was awful. We got another bird, a sun conure, and he got very sick and died recently. Just heartbreaking. They were both wonderful, sweet birds with great personalities!

We are done with birds :(

We had all sorts of birds growing up - parakeets, finches, cockatiels, parrots, lovebirds.... I don't have any of those now.

A couple years ago, I was talking with a new neighbor, and they asked if I had pet birds. I said no, and they said they had heard some squawking or something. Oh yeah, I have pet chickens. Chickens are birds.

Marie, and then we, had a Mexican Yellow Head parrot, Poncho. Was about 65 when he died about 10 years ago.

He did not like men, any man. He liked all women, any woman. He would try to bite any man going by him, me included. Got me a few times over the 40 or so years that I knew him. And woman could go by him and, given the opportunity, he'd hop up on their hand. :confused3
