I remember having the checks in school, but I never had them. There were always a couple of kids sent home due to it though. I still really don't even know where they come from.
For you to get lice, you have to have head to head contact with someone who had it or share hats, blankets, etc with someone who had it. It is why is it very prevalent in preschool and young elementary school age children. Those dress-up/pretend clothing is a breeding ground for it.

My daughters had it several times due to a certain little girl whose mom refused to believe her daughter was the source.

I never had lice, or another of the irksome bugs that take up shop in the body human.

However, it's been said that we all have eyelash mites that feed on dead skin cells. They get "employee of the month" in Casa de Mysterioso. My eyelashes are looking so dead skin cell free!

Ah, that explains it. I never wore hats and also wasn't much for personal contact of any kind really. Both of these things are still true today really.

I had them more than once-I think. Whenever there was an outbreak at my elementary school, my Mom would bust out the Nix and give my sister and I a treatment. I can't remember if we actually had them. I definitely *did* catch them off a family member when I was an adult. What a pain that was, because at that time I had hip length hair.

I don't remember ever having had to deal with head lice.

No lice for me or my family members. I know I received letters from the elementary school when my kids were little advising of an outbreak, but thankfully, my two never got them.

Never had lice, nor has anyone in my family. I sure don't remember that being an issue when I was a kid in the 1960's but with my kids in the 1990s a few times a year they would bring home the dreaded health concern letter.......lice or chicken pox....etc.

Me, my siblings and our kids never had lice. Likely because the few times our schools sent home lice notices, our mother would recount getting kerosene dumped on their heads when they were kids and got lice. Not sure which is worse?

I had a once as a child . My kids never got it. We had a scare once after one of my daughters friends slept over and then a few days later we got the call that she had it but my kids thankfully we clear.

Never had them, but my younger sister got ringworm on her scalp and had to have half her head shaved when a kindergartener.

She looked scary for quite some time.

Our kids did a lot of sleepovers and we had a few cases. What a huge PITA. I became the mom who would dive across a large room in a single leap to tear a friend's hat out of my kids' hands if I thought they were about to put it on their head.

A speaker came to DD's elementary school and used a prairie hat on a couple kid's heads to show how people dressed. The principal got an earful from me when that happened.

I cringe at photos of people trying on hats at Disney for photos and always buy head items from the back of the stack (and keep quarantined at home for a few days when possible).

No lice ever, not us nor kids. However, when my mom was in assisted living we all got scabies from her! Not fun either.

Youngest son & youngest daughter (back in the 80's) both got head lice a couple times. Was so shocked my dd got them as she loved her baths & shampoos back then. She had beautiful long wavy blond hair that the neighbor girl in the apartment below loved to brush......so I think that is where she got them. Both son & daughter only a year apart so they hung out with the same friends & lice was a vicious circle there for awhile. Surprising tho that my older son & daughter never got lice at all and the two girls shared a bed & so did the boys. Head still itches to think about it.

I got it from student teaching. My first graders. My hair was down past my shoulders and it was thick and curly. After 4 hours with the nit comb I gave the scissors to my husband and told him to cut it up into a bob under my ears. It was terrible and I mean terrible.
