Just thinking of this makes me laugh - I am such a spaz when it comes to using chopsticks. I’ve tried so hard, but I’m all thumbs - I just can’t do it. I’m so impressed with those that can and I’m wondering today…..

Can you eat with chopsticks?
How good are you at using them?
(m.c.)

For Me…..As I mentioned above, I can’t do it :sad2: I’ve tried and tried, but I just can’t. We eat Chinese food so little, that even if I learned, I wouldn’t get a lot of practice with using them. I’m not saying I won’t ever learn how to use them, I just don’t see it happening anytime in the near future.

I am not good at using them and would probably starve if I had no alternative. I can eat maybe one or two chunky things with them for the novelty of it, then I reach for a fork. I would like to know how, but not enough to actually practice!

I can muddle through, but I'm not all that good with chopsticks.

I can manage well enough.

DId you know they make trining chopsticks that look amusing to me :)

I have tried numerous times, but just get frustrated and grab a fork. It would be fun to learn how to do it right.

I can eat with them reasonably successfully but choose not to; I get a terrible cramp in the muscle between my thumb and forefinger, so it's not worth it. (It also isn't worth listening to a college-aged nephew lecture us about cultural appropriation. Sign. I wonder if I knew as much as he does when I was 19!)

I can't eat with them. Like others here, I've tried many times over the years, but no luck. After a few tries at a meal, I put them down, grab the fork and enjoy my meal. I would like to learn some dsy.

I'm a total failure at using chopsticks. My sister lived in Singapore and Japan for a few years, and she tried to teach us. But I was all thumbs.

I've tried, but with less than stellar results. I think I'll stick with what I'm used to. :)

I use them, like using them, and can get through a meal reasonably well. Usually near the end I'll grab a fork for the last bit of rice. We have a set we bought, so don't just rely on the cheap wooden break apart ones that come with takeout. I'm not great at it, but feel like I'm improving the more I use them.

I learned as a child with popcorn. It's lightweight, not messy and has a good texture to grip. I can also use them (poorly) with my left hand since it was the easiest way to teach an ex to use them and he was a lefty.

I've tried once or twice.....too much effort. I want the food in my mouth first try.

Timely topic Sandy, just went out for sushi yesterday and had to humbly request a fork. I've tried chopsticks but I just can't manage it. I guess I'd like to learn, OTOH I live in North America where forks are a part of the standard setting for a table. Why would I use chopsticks?

I learned 40 years ago and I’m fairly good at it - we had Chinese at work for lunch a while back I ate my whole meal with them sushi to noodles etc my boss was impressed - I said well it went well this time it’s been a while since I used them - there were 5 of us and only one other person used them and he did a stellar job with them !!

I taught my kids to use them when they were young but I don’t think they kept up with it - but it’s like riding a bike the more you do it the better you get ymmv

I can eat a whole Chinese or Japanese meal, including the rice, with chopsticks. I'm almost a pro at them.

I eat a lot of Asian food with my food allergies, so that helps - practice makes perfect.

I learned and was pretty decent at using chopsticks when I was a teen and young adult. But then I got rusty and my skill diminished.

I tried a few times since then but got frustrated so I gave up completely.

Can recall a number of years ago went with some friends from college to an Asian style restaurant. Had never used chopsticks before, but found them fairly easy to manipulate. Somewhat like holding/using long pencils. Have never used them since but not really into Asian food either.

For what it's worth, I believe sushi is intended to be eaten with your fingers, even in Japan.

I'm pretty good with chopsticks - I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm a pro, though.
