Having multiple jobs at once is a good way to make some extra money, but it can be exhausting. I’m sure many of us has had multiple jobs at some point in our life. Some of us need(ed) the extra money to pay bills and others like(d) having some fun money to pay for the extras in their lives. Enquirering minds want to know how many of you have had or still have multiple jobs. So tell us today……

Have you had multiple jobs at once?
If yes…..was it in the past or now?
How many jobs at once have you had/have?
What was your main reason for the multiple jobs?
(multiple choice)

For Me……I currently have 2 jobs, which is what inspired this poll. My main job is managing a doctors office and then my other job is at my friends business. My friend owns a softball & baseball training facility that my DD21 always trained at. She started working there at 15yrs old and when she went to college I was asked to take her place one day a week (Thursdays, which is the day the doctors office is closed). I agreed to help him on Thursdays from Labor Day to Memorial Day, so today is my last day. My DD21 will work for him in the summer. I enjoy this little second job and I enjoy the extra money, which is used for our WDW trips. The only thing I don’t love is that I work from 2:30pm - 9:30pm, which is ok in the warm months, but horrible in the middle of winter, especially since my bedtime is 9:30pm. I’ll continue doing this for as long as my friend has his business.

In the past, about 10 years ago, I worked at JoAnn Fabrics 3 days a week in addition to managing the doctors office. This I did to help pay for bills when my DH lost his job. I

Often did side work and also had a side business or two over the years and my ex did side work to help pay bills since we both do work that can easily get side work
since my divorce I took on a second job I can do from home to help pay the bills - lucky for me my second job has no set hours it’s just do it when I can so that is really helpful!

I have done consulting work a couple times for software products I wrote or supported at former employers. Both instances were short lived but highly profitable.

My dad always had at least 2 jobs for as long as I can remember.

At one point he had 2 full time and one part time job. He was barely home and when home was sleeping.

As he approached his death he expressed regret for missing so much of his kids life because of work.

Reading over employment stories I am tempted but also too lazy and risk adverse to take on a job 2 or job 3. My dad worked his jobs sequentially. The new trend is to work them simultaneously. Bring in $300-$500k across the multiple jobs for as long as you can manage and either retire early or pay off insane amounts of debt.

Retired now, but during my working years, do not recall having more than one job at a time. My career work was 45 years long.

I currently only work one job but while DD was in middle and high schools I worked two jobs. DH has had at least 2 jobs for as long as I've known him, and usually is involved in his own company, too. Our masters and PhD degree positions don't pay exceedingly well, so second jobs have always been necessary. At almost 69, I'm tired, but the current administration has wreaked havoc on the stock market and consequently our retirement accounts, and I have no confidence in social security remaining untouched, so... work it is. Sometimes it feels like I'll probably die in my lab.

I've never worked 2 jobs at a time, I find working one job stressful and exhausting enough without throwing another one in the mix and I've been fortunate that my one job pays enough that I dont need another.

During and for a while after grad school I worked multiple part time jobs -- I think as many as 4 (briefly) but usually 2 or 3 because all were part time. I did continue to carry a second job for a while after getting a primary full-time position.

I guess I kind of have a second "job". I referee soccer and have done so the past three years or so, ever since my younger son got close to graduating HS and ending his soccer career. It's not a job, per se, because I can pick and choose when I want to work, so there are weeks when I'm busy, sometimes doing 5 or 6 games in a day (at tournaments), but also weeks where I don't do any games. I mostly do it to stay in shape and help give back a little something to the sport both my boys played for their entire lives. The extra money (often cash in hand) doesn't hurt either. :)

I'm retired so have no paying jobs right now. In the past I have, on occasion had two jobs. I worked part time in the factory store on weekends at Westclox where I was a secretary during the week years ago. I needed the money. I worked as a hostess a number of times in restaurants my brother owned and also did his books for him. I did not get paid for these jobs except for a meal when I was at work. Just did the hostess on Sundays to help him out. Did his books because he and his wife were incapable of managing money and I was a bookkeeper. I have helped out a friend who owns a wine shop every now and again on Saturdays because she has tastings then and was always too busy for herself and her one helper. Didn't get paid but got loads of free wine. Haven't done that in years.

Way back in college. I worked in an office as a summer vacation floater (municipal government) from 9-5, and then from 6-10 at the "Chicken Club," which was pretty much like Chick Fil-A, at a local mall.

Later, when DH and I were first married, I worked as an office manager at a financial planning company and then at night at Taco Bell.

Sure! When I was younger in the 80s/90s pre & early college I had a job at a movie theater with crummy hours and also babysat while being a salesperson at the The Big Apple Bazaar for lipsticks and knock off fragrance, I think my shade of tangerine was 24 or something like that so real brands like Borghese were totally out of reach for anyone I knew. I remember using layaway at boutique stores to buy 2 sets of acid wash jeans and denim jackets both blue and black, it was so fly;). Nice memories

Back then retirement was real at 65 so adults rarely had these jobs, it was all young people doing shift work but now all the experienced adults have these jobs trying to make ends meet so young people don't have anywhere to go...it has been a noticeable change now that people aren't leaving the workforce. Very different

I’ve only ever had one job at a time. I’ve actually only ever held 3 jobs total in my life. One in a Blockbuster video store in college, and a medical clinic and hospital as an adult. I stopped that job when my DHs income grew several years ago, to be a stay at home mom. Now I make and sell cake-pops as a part time thing, but that’s mostly just because I enjoy doing it. One job exhausted me I can’t imagine all you people doing 2 and more! You all must be some strong people.

There was a time when I did have three jobs. I was working at Blockbuster in high school, but when college came around, so too did expenses. I took another retail job to cover to get some Christmas money (and the store discount at the WB Studio Store). It was supposed to be seasonal at for the holidays, but I ended up staying on. I was really only doing weekends at BB at that point. Eventually I started a contracting job with Hilton, which paid WAY better. Eventually, I left BB, and the other store closed. Hilton put a job offer on my desk once I graduated and I never looked back - I am still there more than 20 years later, and I like having just the one job! I don't miss retail at all - though I do miss that WBSS discount! The free video rentals were a nice perk too, though that would be largely moot today (GREAT at the time though!).

Pretty much just the one job. Prior to retiring I had a full-time WFH job that I supplemented with some part-time work, but the part-time gig was just something I wanted to do.:)

I did in the past. Worked a full time job, taught skating part time on the side (mostly classes), and then also babysat (could have a babysitting job lined up every weekend). Since the babysitting was a mostly cash endeavor, I used that for my spending money and my other 2 checks went right into my bank account.

When I was younger I had at least one, and usually two, part-time jobs in addition to a full-time job. One of the two was only 8 hours a week, so not a huge time demand.

Eventually children and their activities became practically a second full-time job!
