I wen to a Gala for Gigi's playhouse. I was awesome my friend was a Volunteer of the year

I will defend one charity that advertises on tv and that is DAV - Disabled American Veterans - without their generous grants out charity could not function - they do amazing work for our Veterans ❤️❤️❤️

I am sure there are a number of good/reputable charities who actually help those in need. Unfortunately, the bad actors who are out there aren't always easy to separate from those doing good work. Changing the laws regarding non-profits would be a step in the right direction and help to weed out the ones just collecting money to pay the salaries of their staff.

I have done all of the above at various times. Recently, have bought Girl Scout cookies and a coupon booklet from a HS sports team.

The local school has an annual plant sale coming up for Mother’s Day, where we usually buy flats of flowers. Other popular fundraisers here for school/youth groups, that do well, are car washes.

My oldest's school recently did a food fundraiser where it was clearly stated on the flyer that the school would get 50% of the purchase price. I know I spent more just because I knew half of my total was going to his school.

I chose 'Other,' because besides donating to a couple of causes I believe in, like The Trevor Project, I am currently paying attention to a couple of people I know who are in a rough patch and helping out when I am able. One is contending with homelessness, and the other is disabled. In the first case, I'm giving money when I can through Ko-Fi to help her get a hotel room and basic necessities. In the second, she has a birthday coming up and has no family so I went to her Amazon wishlist and bought her a birthday present and I buy other stuff when I can.

I tend to give locally. Many big charities have huge overheads and people to pay.

Just curious - are these efforts effectively? I get TONS of this stuff and practically never respond to it. I sometimes wonder about the resources sunk into the glossy printed materials and the postage.
And the planet!!

We are on so many of these lists, I actually made up postcards yesterday to send back asking them to take us off. (I'm afraid to call and ask, or then they'll have my phone number too!) We're just getting too many to process / decide which are worth it. - Instead we're overwhelmed and not giving to any of them. :(

I keep in prayer being able to safely help a church friend with all she does for Relay for Life this year. If the pandemic doesn't allow me to do so, I'll donate in another way. I've done church fundraisers of various types. Thank you all for giving in care, time, and other ways to causes you support.

I have done most of these on the list over the years to help out the kids of
co-workers, a group at a store, or my place of worship.

Butter Braids for the local high schools senior party...they were delivered last week!

I bought girl scout cookies, if that counts. Other than that I don't patriciate in fundraisers as a rule.

But to be honest, I will likely not buy them next year. I enjoy my own homemade cookies much much more.

I agree Girl Scout cookies aren't that good. I buy a few boxes when they happen to be selling them outside our local grocery store. I consider it more of a 'donation' where you just happen to get a few mediocre cookies in return.
