Do you have a fireplace in your home?
Do you burn wood with real fire? Or is it gas with fake logs with real fire? Or is it all fake?
Tell us about it
(multiple choice for those that have more than one fireplace)

For Me…….We have a real fireplace with everything fake inside - fake wood, fake fire, but real heat.
We used to make real fire with real logs, but very rarely, We would think about starting a fire to late and then wouldn’t feel like messing around with it. Now, every night when I go in family room to watch TV, I press a button and have instant fire (we don’t use the heat option). Since we used to burn logs in the fireplace, the fireplace walls are stained with black soot, which is great, because when the fake fire goes it looks kinda real. I can also have the fake fire crackle to sound like wood burning, but I rarely use that. This was a great purchase - I love it!

We have a fake fireplace in the entertainment center, however it no longer lights up, so now it’s just a heater. We need to replace it.

We have 2 fireplaces—one in the living room and one in the family room/game room in the basement. They are both gas with fake logs and I think real fire—definitely gives off heat. The one in the downstairs was real logs and fire until about 2 years ago. When the kids were little in the colder months we would go down there after dinner and light a fire, play with the kids, watch a movie—it was nice. On the weekends sometimes we would do s’mores, pizzas in the pie maker, popcorn, etc. It was a lot of fun. As they got older we spent less and less time down there as a family, but they started hanging out there with friends. It’s chilly in the winter so we liked the idea of just being able to press a button and have a fire. We use the one in the living room often in the fall/winter when we are home for the evening.

Love my gas fireplace !! I used it a lot last winter !! With Gas so high this year I may not use it as much this winter
Years ago we had a real one - pain in butt - always having to get wood and worrying about log rolling out and setting house on fire ( this almost happened Even with the screen)
I wish I had one in my bedroom - I think they are so nice & cozy to have in your bedroom !

You should go to Menards and get what I have - you just plug it in and press on - it’s awesome! It has a remote so you can adjust the brightness, adjust the volume if you want to hear crackling and to turn on the heat. I love love love my fake fire - I literally use it every night during the cold months. Sometimes I turn it on the minute I come home from work - I love that warm looking glow 🔥

Real fireplace, real logs, and use it almost 24/7 in the winter. We do have an insert with a blower to make it more efficient (with a door that prevents logs from rolling out). We live in the woods, so free wood, and it’s so efficient that it keeps the living room/upstairs so warm that the heat barely kicks on.

I have two fireplaces and a wood stove, all wood burning. We haven't used any of them in the nearly 3 years we've owned the house.

During some renovations a few years ago we decided to put a fireplace in. Found a local fireplace shop with really nice full size fireplaces. It’s gas with fake logs. Just press a button on the remote and instant fire. We use it quite often during the winter. Love it!

Real fireplace that we had built. I voted for actual wood logs, Marie for gas logs. We have gas logs. No push button start; we use a long, wood match. It throws a lot of heat. In the end, glad we have the gas logs, would not be wanting to deal with wood along with the mess. We do not use it very often now though. But it sure looks nice.

At our previous house we had a gas fireplace with a blower that kept the living room very warm. DW had that on pretty much full-time from Halloween through St. Patrick's Day. :D

I love wood-burning fireplaces but they can be messy.

Gas fireplace gives good heat for the basement.

Real wood-burning fireplace with a gas log-lighter that takes the challenge out of getting the fire going. We LOVE it!! Having it is a perk of buying an older home; these no longer meet code for new construction - it’s strictly sealed unit gas or electric (fake) fireplaces now.

Our living room is small, so we rarely burn cord wood - it way over-heats the room and it just feels weird to have the fire roaring and the doors open. Nothing beats the ambiance though so we do go through a ton of pressed fire-logs every winter. I suppose in that regard a gas unit would be just as good, but we’re still glad to have our wood-burner. :cloud9:
