How has YOUR winter of 2023 been so far?
(multiple choice)

For Me…..Nicer than normal - it’s been kinda weird and not right.
I’m not a fan of winter, so I’ll take it, but I can’t help but wonder when the other shoe is gonna drop.
It’s February 20th and my DH has used the snow blower one time - that’s not normal.
It’s also warmer than normal - my DD19 had a double header outside in Indiana yesterday - it was 52 degrees.
Very odd, but again, I’ll take it.

rainier.....we don't usually get much rain in winter. But I like rain, so that is fine.
Temps about the same.

Much warmer. Rare days below freezing. It should be below freezing for January and February.

Still cold as it's been generally 35-38 all winter with wind, but sure beats a month of 15° all of February.

And barely any snow. We've been mild in the snow department for a very long time. People my age acted like it's the end of the world the few times we got 2 inches of snow. Like I've known you all my life and you've lived here that entire time, you don't remember getting 8 inches of snow at least once a week and never seeing the grass in the yard for 3 solid months? Now three little 2 inch snow falls each winter is the end of the world?

I’m gonna say definitely warmer than normal. I feel there has been less precipitation also. I haven’t had to shovel snow in 3 years. This winter other than some flurries it hasn’t snowed. We did have a few cold days right around Christmas but that is it. This Thursday it is supposed to be in the high 70s. This is in Maryland.

Warmer overall and we pretty much got zero snow this year. I think it snowed 2 inches one time (if that much). We did have a week of extreme cold (-5f low / 2'f hi), but otherwise it has sucked (I love snow). It's almost over now, upcoming week is warmer than average. Maybe next year...

I am in New England. It’s been warmer than normal and we’ve only had about 8 inches of snow this season. We are getting rain so I don’t think we are behind on precipitation. My daffodils have popped up already, which means fruit trees may bloom. Hoping that doesn’t happen, last time they bloomed early we had a frost and it took out most of fruit for the year. So far my fruit trees are not in bloom. I hear from a friend who taps their trees that the maple syrup is running like crazy this year, so maybe it will help the sugar shacks.

Well, since I WFH I don't pay AS MUCH of attention, but the massive piles of snow, still, after weeks up above-freezing temps, tells me it has been snowier than normal. Seriously, it is still above our mailboxes.

Expecting another 18 inches this week.

Woo hoo.

We are going to have record breaking temps in the 90’s for several days this week. I am not ready for summer . . . 🥵

Warmer - Feb is usually very cold and nasty - just not the case this year - people are starting to complain about allergies - maybe because it’s been so nice and warm but we have had a lot of rain - my backyard is a swamp - then at night it’s crunchy from freezing - but I HATE winter so I’ll take the warm weather !! I hope it continue into March & April - no more SNOW ( yes I know it’s a bad word I hope I don’t get kicked off the DIS 🤣🤣)

As we're neighbors, Sandy, relatively speaking, our winter has been the same as yours. Warmer than usual, much less snow than usual. Works fine for me.

Well, there really is no "normal" here as far as winter goes, but for the most part, it has been a very mild one. Funny thing to say on a day when we're in the middle of a blizzard that is to deliver 10" of snow and our temps will be below -20C until Friday, but this is actually the first really bad spell we've had since Christmastime. There have been many, many days above zero and we haven't had much snowfall at all. Reminiscent of the weather we had during the '88 Olympics when the average daily temperature was +12C, all the snow melted, and it was difficult to hold some of the events.

Now, this does make up for some of what we've already suffered. Our first snow storm was in October and hard-winter settled in before Halloween. November was brutal and we had a 12 day stretch where we hit -40 a few times and the average daily high was -26. :cold:

Another thing about it is that by this time of year, people are actually starting to feel pretty good about the fact that we've made it more than half-way through winter, which here runs basically from October until April. We've likely got one or two more whopper snowfalls coming but no matter what the next 6 or 7 weeks throw at us, we feel like we can handle it.

Also in New England. I said "rainier than usual" only because the rain would usually be snow. It's been positively spring-like much of the time, even down to the birds singing.

Definitely warmer and drier and I'm ok with that! It's still chilly, but not below freezing so I don't need all my extra warm gear. A lot less puffy these days. 🤪

On the other hand, St. Patrick's Day is drawing near and something ALWAYS happens near that time. I say you don't escape winter until 3/17 rolls by.

I really miss the snow. We have had a lot less snow than normal and the snow that we have had was only a few inches deep. We are also drier than normal which isn't a good thing.

I live about 20 miles north of Boston and it’s been much warmer than normal. One snow storm where I had to use the snowblower and one really cold (-30 wind chill) weekend but that’s it. The day after the -30 the temp was 50 degrees!! We’ve had a few days in the 60’s and multiple days in the 40’s and 50’s. I’ll take that any winter but I’ve lived here long enough to know that winter can strike hard here into April so keeping my fingers crossed!

It's been a pretty mild winter (so far), but we're still waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak. Know all too well that 50's in February can easily turn into 18 inches of snow in April.

TV weather said it was the second warmest January on record in my area, the warmest in 1930something.

Only one slight dusting of snow a few weeks ago that quickly melted.

This Thursday might break the high temp record for the date.

::yes:: This is an issue most don't consider when a winter is unusually mild. Snow forms a major part of annual precipitation and the lack of it causes drought just as surely as the lack of rain. We live in a semi-arid region and it's a real drag to have to wait until early June for the rains to fall before the trees start leafing out and things green up. That's our fate every year if we don't get major snow in the late winter and spring.
