Happy Monday Everyone!

Who here still has a CD player?
Is it in your home, your car, a portable one or all of the above?
How often do you use it?
(multiple choice)

For Me…..Sadly, I no longer have a CD player 😢.
I had one in my 2015 mini van, and I did use it fairly often.
When we traded it in this year, I was bummed out that my new car has no CD player 😔

*Inspiration for today’s poll is me bringing my CD storage binder, that I kept in my van, into the house (it’s been sitting in the garage since we traded in the van) and feeling emotional while looking through it - so many memories. The majority of these CDs are Disney ones and some are pretty old. My girls and I would listen to these in the car, and I can still hear their little voices singing along with them. Once they got older, it was the High School Musical soundtracks - we loved listening to those. One CD that I’m very sad that I can’t listen to in my car now is my Illuminations CD - one of my favorites. Every time I listen to the Tapestry of Nations music, it takes me back to our first WDW vacation as a family, DD24 was 2yrs old, and she was mesmerized by those big walking puppets (I think they would be called puppets:scratchin). So, lots of memories in that binder….not to be heard from again 😢

We don't have a cd player in the new car but we do still have one in the house.

Additionally, we have a dvd/cd player on the new desktop and we can play cds on the PS3.

Have several in the house and one in the car. Most of my CDs are ripped to my hard drive which is mainly how I listen to music (several hours a day.) I'm keeping the CDs and the player though, cos ya never know!:)

Sadly, I no longer have a CD player
Sandy do you have a dvd or blu-ray player? Those play CDs too!

My 2014 car has a CD player but I mostly listen to Sirius satellite radio.

My first CD player circa 1990 was a portable Sony Discman. You could play it in the car with a wire that attached to a cassette.

Home stereo has both a CD player and a turntable. (Plus cassette). I still have about 30 albums and 4 or 5 mix tape cassettes.

We just happened to be talking about this yesterday. No CD players in the house. My car and my sons car have them. My husband and daughters car do not. My husband sold almost all of his cds last year. I think he has a few in my car in case he ever takes it. He just uses either Spotify or pandora. My kids do the same. I’m more of just putting the radio on in my car. In our house we are not big on putting music on (dh would be but he isn’t home a lot).

I have several devices that play CD's around, still some old portables and my car is old and has one. I can't remember the last time I played one though - maybe to rip the files to the PC. I use a USB drive in the car.

Yes I have one and use it mostly when I’m on the treadmill in the basement. Also bring it up from the basement when I bake my Christmas cookies . Love my Christmas cds.

I miss it in the car when on vacation. My mom liked Conway so we break that out for her. The kids would say it must be vacation when I put it in, they know it‘s coming…lol

I have one in my car. Only use it for road trips to listen to audio books.

I had one in the house. Lent it to DD for home schooling 2 years ago. They used it a lot and it broke. So none in the house anymore.

I have a "portable" (but fairly large) one in the house that gets used mostly to play Christmas CD's every year.

My car technically has one, but it doesn't work anymore. I did use it a lot when DS was young, but I use Spotify or listen to the radio now.

I was extremely aggravated when they stopped putting CD players in cars. I have so many CDs and I do listen to them all the time! My previous 2001 subaru had many CD options - a 4 or 5 rotational device. My latest car is 2013 and only has 1. I'm lucky it has that!

Unless I'm missing something, it isn't worth the time to transfer all my CDs to a phone or other storage device in order to play them in the car. Annoying. If anyone has a suggestion, send it over!

I do have a CD player in the house but rarely use it.

Ripping CD's is typically quite easy with a PC. Just pop the CD in and save the tracks. These days it takes no time! Then you can put everythign on a good-sized USB drive and that's it.

So I can then just stick the USB in the car and play it that way? But there is no way to know which song is coming? Like if I'm in the mood for one particular CD or type of music.

This is making me feel very old and I just turned 40.

We have some Bluray players hanging around the house that can play them, a PS4 and three desktops with disc drives. Still, I don’t think a CD has been played in this house in well over a decade. (Probably 4-5 years for DVD/Bluray)

Probably around 2006 ish when I bought my Tahoe is the last time I played a CD in a vehicle. It has a CD player but it also had satellite radio. At the time it was commercial free and there was no end to content. Then Sirius bought XM and ruined it. Fortunately iPhones came out and I was able to put all my tunes there. I’ve never looked back. Have not listened to the radio or a CD since.

My new Palisade does not have a CD player and it didn’t even occur to me to check and see if it did when I bought it. Older DD and DH both have CD players in their vehicles and use them on occasion as they are both sound purists. The younger kids will be driving the Tahoe but I don’t think they’ve ever played a CD in the lives. I’ve kept my CDs though because I have some obscure albums that even iTunes doesn’t have. I keep telling myself that one day I’m going to take the time to rip them all in highest quality but it hasn’t happened yet.

Do you have a computer with a disc drive? Or know someone who does? If so you can rip your CDs and put them on your phone or a USB drive so you can enjoy them again.

:confused3 I’m not sure if my current car has one (2021 Mazda); I’ll make a point to look when I go to work. My current laptop also does not have a disc drive so I guess the only device I’ve got that would play a CD (which we absolutely never do anyway) would be the old desktop tower that functions as our home network server.

Why wouldn’t it be worth it to put on your phone?

I have one in my car and we have a CD player somewhere in the house (no clue where right now, though), but we rarely play CDs anymore. I think we may still have an old "boombox" somewhere in our basement too. :rotfl2:

Well, typically if the car's audio system has the ability to play USB, it will display the folders and you can scroll through them, skip, etc. just like you could on a CD but without having to change discs. The only tricky part can be the folder order can be messed up if you make changes to the original structure (when you are copying ht efiles from the PC to the USB drive), It might default to alphabetical, but I like all the albums from the same artist in the order of release, so I put numbers in front of the folder names.

We have a few CD players in the house.

If we get CD's these days we tend to rip them and use the digital audio file in various places.
