This weekend in the U.S. is Labor Day weekend, where many enjoy getting together and cooking on the grill. One of those items on the grill may be a steak. There’s many different steaks to pick from, so I’m asking all the steak eaters this morning……

Referencing the Ultimate Steak Guide pictured below…..
What type(s) of steak do you enjoy eating?
If you don’t eat steak, is it because you don’t like steak or because you’re a vegetarian?
(multiple choice)

*Happy Labor Day weekend everyone - be safe!

For Me…….I love a Filet Mignon, but only at a good steak restaurant. At home, I’ll eat whatever my DH grills, which is normally what’s on sale at the grocery store - I’m not fussy. When my DH is at a steak restaurant, he’ll always get a Prime Rib.

Once in a while, see beef tenderloin on a good sale at grocery store. But going out to Texas Roadhouse type place, we get ribeye.

Ill eat pretty much any steak as long as its cooked properly...but getting a good Filet Mignon is probably my first choice.
Second choice is a Tomahawk steak.

One great feature of the Ninja Combi Air Fryer is it does Souse Vide. So you can cook it to a perfect doneness and then finish it on the grill.

Is it as good as a top quality steak house - no - its hard to get that quality of meat. Is it close - yeah. Can I get a 2.5lb Tomahawk steak for $40 instead of $120 - yeah. I can get prime 9oz Filet for about $20 as opposed to $50+ - yeah.

For a restaurant add on top of that over priced wine, sides and a tip - I've pretty much stopped eating at restaurants.
The biggest factor in all of this is just how bad service has become since covid ended - you expect a minimum of 20% tip and you are doing the bare minimum - the entitlement has really turned me off. (BTW - we have been in the industry and my kids are in the industry - so I get how tough a job it is)

Could have left this on the grill for another minute or two for each side:

I love a good steak.
Filet is first choice but usually only at a restaurant.
At home I watch for sirloin to be on sale. We just grilled some Wednesday. I like to marinate mine.

Steak my favorite food item !! I usually purchase sides of beef or beef package - my order of eating my steaks - Ribeye is my favorite ❤️ followed by Porterhouse or a TBone then I move on to the Sirloin and I use the strip steaks for fajitas - upon occasion I will cook a strip
Steak but not very often -
I don’t cook my steaks on a grill -I use a skillet with some butter for just a minute on each side if that long - I like them rare

Have a happy & safe holiday weekend !!!

Tom mostly grills filet mignon, but I also enjoy ribeye or t-bone. I enjoy steaks but I rarely get them at a restaurant, I really enjoy the way Tom grills them, medium rare for me.

My favorite outdoor steak cooking method: buy at least a 2” thick Porterhouse (aged if the traffic will bear) from your butcher. Start a fire with hardwood briquettes and/or logs using a chimney starter (no petrol accelerant, puhleese!) and when the flames die down, throw that hunk of meat directly atop the briquettes until the cow moos 🤣.
I once had someone tell me they feared a bug hiding in the burning logs so to be nice I put an oven rack btw the heat and fire without grumbling about citified dandies…

I’ll think of this longingly as I reverse sear a NY strip indoors🙂

Looks like I'm the one person who doesn't eat steak because I don't like it. I don't hate it, it can be tasty, I'd just rather eat almost anything else.

This is cattle country and we eat a lot of steak. DH is a bone-in rib steak guy; striploin (the cut known as a New York in the States) is his second choice. I prefer sirloin because it’s a little leaner. I occasionally make him suffer through a sirloin because it’s often half the price of ribeye.

I love just about any kind of steak--if prepared correctly, it's all awesome IMHO. My favorite is ribeye.

My Dad was a meat cutter and meat department manager, back when they'd send these sides of beef directly to the store and he'd break them down, package them and lay them out in the case. He took great pride in his craft. Whenever he'd go into a different store he always liked to look at their meat case and later he'd give me his critique of how they'd cut the meat and how it was displayed.

Anyway, our family ate well on "day old meat." When meat begins to oxidize it turns brown, but is still good meat. When it turned brown he'd move it to the "day old meat" section at a reduce price. If it didn't sell there, the store manager said he could bring it home. Which he did, to our great enjoyment.

I love steak, wouldn't turn down any cut. Medium rare.

There used to be a local restaurant that did hot rock cooking. I loved having steak that way. Got a nice sear on the outside of each bite while still being red inside.

Ribeye or NY strip would be my first choices, but I grill a marinated flat iron from time to time. Filet and sirloin are too lean for my taste (not that I’m turn it down if offered, of course 😉).

I have not had red meat since I was 15 but I do buy steaks for DH, my dad, and the girls when they are home from school. They all prefer a ribeye.

Out -- anything! At home, I prefer to make NY strip or top sirloin. We subscribe to ButcherBox and have been really happy with the quality of the meat (from someone who never really paid attention to it before).

That said, we prefer it cooked on the stovetop and not on the grill.

Happy weekend!
