Video Chat is such a great way to communicate with friends, family, coworkers and more. Some of us use it more than others. Communicate to us today……

Do you video chat with anyone?
If yes….with who do you video chat with?
(multiple choice)

For Me……I video chat with DD21 almost every day. Sometimes it’s for a few minutes and sometimes it’s for a 1/2 hour or more. There are times when I’m working on a jigsaw puzzle, she’ll FaceTime me while she’s studying and we’ll just keep each other company - sometimes we barely talk (when she was still in HS she’d study at the dining room table while I worked on my puzzle - she likes the company). I also FaceTime my DH when I’m out of town with DD21. There has been a few times in the past I did a video doctor’s appointment, but that’s been a long time ago now - during COVID.

I never use it.
I might look or say something when DD does it with the grand kids. But is not something I want or like to do. I don't even really like talking on the phone

Only for work and my video camera is off as I don’t care for people to see my house as I’m working from home - one coworker hates that but my boss is ok with it that way and thsts all that matters

Only for work. We have a hybrid work schedule, campuses in 2 states, and some fully remote workers in other states. Yesterday I had 3 in person meetings, 2 webex meetings, and 2 meetings where half the people were in person and half on Webex.

I never WANT to video chat, but on rare occasions my sister will call me with my nephew on video. I always feel super awkward, not a fan.
I never turn my camera on in Teams/Zoom/Webex meetings, either, if I can avoid it.

I don't facetime or anything like that for regular calls. The family (my siblings) started a weekly zoom during the pandemic -- largely to keep in touch with my mom who was in assisted living with some very strict visitation/quarantine rules. We've managed to keep it going even almost a year since mom passed.

We occasionally do telehealth visits though I prefer in-person. I work from home so we do a lot of video meetings, though most of the time for internal calls nobody turns on their camera.

Have used it occasionally, in general not a big fan of using it. During covid when we didn't want to travel to visit relatives was a way to 'see' each other during the holidays. One of the products also lets multiple people on the same call (can't recall which product), but there is a delay when speaking and you tend to talk over each other. Video is sometimes spotty and takes some effort to setup where you want to do your video from. It isn't like being in the same room together.

Rather use my cell phone to speak to others. Not sure you gain much with video.

This is part of the office ritual now. Also, we have multiple sites, so have to do video chat to include workers in those locations.

We love it and have been using it for years.

My parents live over 1,100 miles away and they wanted my kids to grow up seeing them regularly...like I had with my own grandparents (even though it was in person). We were using Skype on a laptop for weekly grandparent time well before we ever got iPhones. These days, we use FaceTime. During the pandemic, we added in Zooms with my brother's family so that his kids could have some cousin time with my kids during holidays.

DD18 just started college and we have used it a number of times in the last week+ to talk to her, although...she's so busy that it's not an every day thing. I get it and am just happy even getting her little calls and texts. We also used it whenever she chose not to travel with us for softball...just for daily check ins.

It's also a great shopping hack. If one of us is at the store and doesn't know which specific thing to get, I just FaceTime them so they can see the store shelves with me and tell me specifically which product they wanted. Same thing goes for clothing/shoe stores. If I walk into a good sale, I can show them before I buy it or leave it so I'm not making any secondary trips.

I've also had a few video conferences with doctors and at work we use Teams, which has video capability. I don't always like being on camera, so I usually leave mine off or put up a live action avatar.

Grandkids. Look grandma , this is my doll and her bed and this and that, watch me do a cartwheel, etc. and then 15 mins of them putting on filters so they are covered with glitter or a baby face or looks like they are climbing a mountain.

Added new thoughts...
In the past, "visits" were much longer. Sometime grandma got dropped down the stairs as we traveled through the house. Sometime, grandma got forgotten cause it was time for lunch, I'd be under the sofa for 20 mins sad and lonely.

Way way back in time, with my first grandkid (who is now second year in college), we would both get the same book from the library (we live 150 miles apart) and she would read to me over the phone. I would have the same book to help with the big words or she would read a page, I'd read a page.

Sometime I think, 200 ish years ago, ......bye ma, I love you, I'll probably never see you again, but look for a letter in 3 or 4 months. sniff sniff. How did they do it?????

I don't use it a lot, but I do use it sometimes.

When my parents spent their winters in Florida, I'd video chat with them about once a week to catch up. While they live locally (all year now), we usually talk over phone, text, or in-person... rarely videochat.

While my kids are away at college, we usually videochat about once a week... but my daughter transferred to a pretty local university. She's living on campus but is keeping her job near home, so I don't know if we'll videochat or if she'll just stop by.

I do use it for zoom meetings at work, but that's not really a choice.

Since the pandemic, my wife and I video chat with our children once a week. Every Thursday at 6:30pm is Family Facetime and I can count on one hand how many days we have failed to do this. It gives us a chance to catch up on our daily lives and it's just good to "see" them. The three of them live anywhere from a six to a ten hour drive away so it keeps us in the loop. We end the chat with everybody giving their High-Low-Cheer for the week. It works for us.

I FaceTime with my daughter twice a day. We eat breakfast and dinner together over FaceTime. For me, it's a lifesaver because I miss her and worry about her, like any mama would.
