I think kids sleeping in the same room is the secret. They don’t come looking for you in the middle of the night because you’re already there. If my five year old needs to use the bathroom or get water in the middle of the night he handles it himself and then gets back in bed. My two year old still wears a diaper overnight and has a spill-proof water bottle that he sleeps with so he can help himself as needed. My five year old’s bed is about to start moving towards the door and down the hall as we prepare for #3’s arrival, so it’ll be interesting to see how he handles the transition.Tell me your secrets! My kids do not sleep with me but multiple times a week they wake me up in middle of the night (dream, need a blanket or use bathroom).
When I was pregnant the 2nd time I slept in a recliner for 6 weeks before birth. I could not sleep in a bed. That's not an issue now, but I think you are lucky!!!
I still laugh every time I think about the findings of a child sleep study I once read. The researchers interviewed parents from different countries about their child’s sleep habits, with one of the questions being “How many times does the baby wake during the night?” The mothers from Kenya, where it’s normal to practice cosleeping from birth, couldn’t even understand the question. “Why would the baby be awake at night? But everyone is sleeping at night. What is a baby going to do by themselves in the middle of the night?”
Third trimesters are uncomfortable but I’ve been okay in the past just sleeping on my side — hopefully that will remain true this time around as well. I think most of my luck with lack of sleep issues can be attributed to my body’s unwavering dedication to sleeping like a rock at all costs.
