Hey gang, question for you all.

We just ordered a new living room set. Woo hoo! To replace the old set that our incredibly evil and kinda stupid dog ruined. He has a tendency of scratching and scratching at the cushions, thus tearing them open.

So, who here has a slipcover that you absolutely swear by and think would help deter the menace that is know as Bill the Dark One?

Or, who here has a dog that does this and has found a fix to the situation?

LOL, this brings back a vision from years ago when we had to keep the vacum cleaner and spray cans on the sofa to keep our dog from sitting on it. :rotfl:

We have really nice denim slipcovers from Potter Barn on our family room set. They are very heavy and would suit your purpose, but despite the fact that they cost a small fortune, they still get messed up every time someone sits down, so I hate them. :furious:

LL Bean makes a very nice, heavy blanket meant just for pets, maybe that would work for you and you could remove it easily if you wanted to. paw:

We have the denim Pottery Barn slipcovers mentioned above. They're pretty heavy duty and have kept our sofas in decent shape (they were new when we covered them). Be aware that you'll constantly need to "adjust" the slipcovers. It's a bit of a pain, because I can't walk past our sofas (we have 3) without adjusting something, but it's a necessary evil. Good luck!

I have some suggestions but not a slip cover per se. I have a cat, McKinley, who I swear knows what she's doing is wrong when she would scratch our new furniture (we've only had it six months) and gives us this look of defiance satisfaction while she was doing it!

So, to get her to stop, I did two things. First, I bought this sticky tape from the pet store that you put on the furniture (it comes off easy too) which is clear and stick on the side facing out as well. Pets hate it b/c they don't like the sticky feel - you put it in the areas he or she likes to destroy.

Second, we saved a small piece of the old furniture that we didn't care about and let her scratch that - and when she does it, I yell at her like I'm mad (even though I really don't care) so she thinks she's upsetting me. I notice she does it more when it's getting close to the time of being fed - she wants the attention. So she thinks she's bothering me which makes her happy and I'm happy b/c she's scratching something I don't care about!

I hate slipcovers!!!!

I hate adjusting them all the time. I hate how they look if I'm not adjusting them all the time. But I have kids so I bought some for our two chairs. I remembered why I hated them so so much. We got rid of them this weekend - I think we just drove out to the country and dropped them off near a nice looking house with a family that might want them and love them..... :rotfl:

My aunt's solution to having five cats was to buy nice indoor wicker furniture and she replaces the seat cushions whenever. It has been a lot easier than replacing the whole set every other year.

My other aunt got slipcovers professionalyl made for her chairs out of washable canvas - they don't slip and slide around but they cost as much as the couch!

Good luck Rick!

My dog has ruined our furniture too, I really want some new stuff but I'm afraid! We do have slipcovers on one sofa & loveseat, canvas ones I think from Lands End. They seem to help, but I really hate the look (although it's better than what's under them!)

The other furniture we try to remember to pull up the seat cushions at night. She only scratches when we're in bed or not home, never during the day, so it's tough to catch her in the act.

why didn't I think of that? Man we're stupid! BUT, the new set we're having delivered, the cushioins are attached. Don't ask...

and like you, our dog never scratches at the furniture when we're at home. he only does it when we're at work.
