OK, fr hte record I have 2 DD's both of whome potty learned at 3 1/2 and just before 3.

I had heard that boys take their time about it, and I was prepared for him to be in diapers "forever", but the boy has other plans.

3 months ago he started to ask to use the potty. He just turned 2 last month!

Right now, we use the potty "Successfully" about 6 times a day, but still have our accidents. He will sometimes wake from his nap dry, but its about 50/50 right now. He will request to "potty" about 4-5 times a day with my prompting him about 2-3 times. Yes, he will poop on the potty aobut 1/3 of the time. He has never made it dry though the night, nor do I expect him to, but I was never expecting this, either!

SO my question is this: I know he will back slide a bit and take longer to train through the night, but what are my chances of him being "mostly successful" by this time next month? Is it WAY too early to start to think of Disney Diaper Free?

Yes, I've done this before, but Mommy mush brain prevents me from remembering these things LOL!

THanks for your insight!

congrats on his efforts so far!! my boys were closer to 3-but I will say I would not expect him to be diaper free just yet!! Give him a couple of months and then move to pull-ups. Unless he just really becomes realiable!! But the stress of vacation is not condusive to potty training!!

The year my daughter was 2, we were almost potty trained in Sept. and then Hurricane Rita hit!! We had no power for weeks, so we were out of town in a hotel. The toilet in that room was sooooo loud that it terrified her and she would NOT use that bathroom. So, we were back to pull-ups. By Dec. we were in Disney on vacation and she had gotten back in the groove of pottying , so she hardly had accidents, but I did the pull-ups just in case. You never know how they will react to different toilets or situations. But way to go so far!!

The boy's are later is just a saying and not true for all I've had 2 boys trained before 2, so it is very possible. I wouldn't use pull ups at home at all just stick with the underwear and don't look (or slip) back. A month is a long time.

It sounds like he is doing his best. If he just turned two, it maybe that he just doesn't have enough control over it yet. I'd just give him time and keep doing what you're doing.
I agree that underwear and not pull ups are the way to go through the day.

If he has interest that is great!! My son just gave up diapers one day and never looked back, he was just over 2! But he was staying dry overnight most nights already. We didn't do pull-ups at all with him, there were a couple of close calls in the car where he just HAD to go... we ended up pulling over on the side of the road.... that didn't last long 2 or 3 times... But I will say that if you are going to use pull-ups for the plane or car... put them over underwear, that way if he goes he won't see that it is easy to be lazy and go in the pull up again and not in his underwear.

I have a 2 1/2 year old little girl now... she has been potty trained during the day since right before she turned 2...... But she still can't/ won't stay dry overnight. She stays dry at nap, but not at night and we have done everything I know to do and she still won't stay dry at night... we even let hert sleep in panties (with waterproof mat under her) she wet and didn't even care, so after a couple nights that went out the window... I guess when she is ready she will be diaper pull up free overnight as well!!

I agree that boys being harder is just not true. My DS trained in a week right at his second birthday. I agree too to forget the pull ups and put him in underwear and go from there. it takes some work but it looks like you are headed in the right direction. I can see you being day diaper free in a month.

I would definitely go with the potty training now. I am a big believer that if you wait too long, you miss a window and it is even harder.

My pediatrician told me staying dry at night has no connection to potty training. My DD was potty trained at 27 months. At 5 1/2 we are still having a few night accidents, but I think we are almost there!

Wow, that is great! I would go right to underwear and forget the pull-ups. My boys were trained before 3 years old too. Its nice to be training him in the summer. Less clothes to change if he has an accident. Once again, great job! :thumbsup2

Thomas potty trained at just over two also. We got a chair when he was 18 months old, he wouldn't even sit on it. We never pushed. Around 2 we started asking if he wanted to go potty. The answer was alway no. End of coversation. One day, right after he turned two, he said yes. And he did. Within two weeks he was out of diapers during the day and at two and a half he was out of diapers at night too. Whe he was ready, he was ready. Nothing we did changed it one way or the other. Since he is our only, I have no idea if it works for all kids that way.

I will mention that we used cloth diapers, so that may have some effect on early training.

ETA: We never used pullups - we went straight to character underwear.

My story is very similar! My dd's trained right at 3 and I was told to watch out because my ds would be much tougher. I decided to give it a whirl last summer while my dh was laid off, I figured it would be easier to share training with him. Well, surprise, surprise, my little guy was the easiest yet! He had very few accidents after the first few days. We started last July when he was 2y4m. He has been diaper free since then! He doesn't always nap, but he's usually dry when he does. He does wear a pull up at night, although he's not always crazy about it. We tried with undies at night, but he just isn't physiologically ready yet. We've told him that when he can wake up dry for two weeks, we'll try undies at night again.

As far as diaperless at Disney, it is possible. But, I would wait until closer to your departure to see. Alot can change in a month! I have to say that it was very nice on our last trip to have daddy be able to take our little guy in the "big boys" potty instead of tagging along with us girls! I packed an emergency pull up and undies (plus undies for my 5yo, who never decides she has to go until she HAS to go!) for the parks, but I don't think I ever used them. Congratulations! Just think of all the money that can be reassigned from the diaper budget to the Disney budget!:goodvibes

Thank you all!!!

Yes, I think I will just continue as we are, and IF we are Diaper Free by Disney GREAT!! If not, then we will have more luggage space on the return trip LOL!

I gues the "next" Disney goal after Diaper Free would be stroller Free, but we are YEARS from that!!!

Another tip is to use underwear and just slip a pull-up on over the underwear for naps, times you have to be out and an accident would be difficult, etc. Basically, it protects their clothes and the underwear is the only thing you'll have to deal with in case of an accident. It's kind of like the old plastic pants over the training pants idea. I haven't tried it with DS yet, but a couple of friends have done this and it worked really well. Good luck!:thumbsup2

I agree about going straight to underwear and forget the pull-ups, I think that if you put them in pull-ups, it's like youre giving them permission to go in their pants. DS was 26mos. old and never asked to use the potty, I just said one day "you are going to go on the potty like a big boy" and he was like "o.k." and he only had 1 accident after that! good luck! It sounds like you are on the right track.
