Went through pantry. Some stuff in there that has expired in the past 1-4 months. Most of it we won't use ... thus it is still in there. Somehow you always seem to end up with a few items you really don't need or want. Anyhow, trash them or donate them? The school is doing a used clothing, used toy, and canned good thing tomorrow.

Trash them. They will make you sick. Do not donate them to the needy, it will make them sick too!

Trash them. You can't donate expired items.

Cool. Was not sure if it was one of those things were the expiration date is way before it really goes bad. It is not a food bank. The school does a program for local folks. Anyone who feels they need come and pick through tons of free stuff to take home with them... used clothing, toys, furniture, kitchen supplies, and canned food. School's guidance counselors do it. Anyhow, I'll trash it. Figured I'd ask.

During Katrina they said that canned food was good for a year after the date on the can.

You know, I always was in the camp of "It's canned! It's fine!"

On Thursday December 3rd, this year - I ate a can of Progresso French Onion soup that expired sometime in the summer. I thought absolutely nothing about it.

I ended up staying home from work Friday. I was SO sick. It's not even funny. I was scared to eat or drink anything. My stomach felt like I was in labor, it was cramping so bad.

Throw it away. And like I said - 2 weeks ago, I would have told you it was fine.

I do grocery auctions a lot.. I get A LOT of past date food :)

Things to look for, Dented cans, bulging tops, bad smells.

Dented cans may have broken the seals so toss em, bulging tops/bottoms means its infected, toss, and if it smells bad, prolly is bad..

6mo is about the limit for non-frozen, and 1yr for frozen (Freezer burn gets old after awhile)... for me.
