I just tried to book the sleigh ride at wilderness lodge and they said they are not doing it this christmas?? So I booked it at Fort Wilderness which they said is now $60.00 not $35.00 like the Dis reports?? Anyone know whats up?
Thankful I got anything for Christmas week but really wanted a shot at Wilderness lodge

I was told the same thing, that it is only at Ft Wilderness. I booked one for 12/26 and it was $60.

There is a review on this weeks podcast by two members of the team who did it Sunday night.. Mixed reviews, you may want to listen to it.

Is there anywhere else that does a sleigh ride in the parks? Why did they cancel the Wilderness lodge one as it sounds like the perfect place for it. I am disappointed but booked the 26th at 930pm- but I will be listening to the podcast

We are the 26th at 9 so I am sure we will see you as we exit the sleigh! :thumbsup2

My BFF and I did the sleigh ride at Wilderness Lodge last year, as I had always wanted to do it. The price was at least $60 then, if not more. I enjoyed the experience, but I would not say it is a must-do.

During the approximate 30-minute ride, we were taken around the paths in the forest surrounding Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. It was very dark, and the only sounds were the sleigh bells and the horse's hooves, along with the occasional traffic noises where the paths neared or intersected roads. We had a good time chatting with the driver and each other.

I think the ride would be great for a couple who wants a romantic experience at WDW, but even for them there are probably better-value options.

PP confirms many reports that it was just kind of dark and there wasn't a whole lot to *see* with the WL ride.

Sleigh rides at FW usually take folks around some of the camping loops where you can see the awesome displays so many campers put on for the holidays.

Check out THIS THREAD to see some of the ones there now. :santa:

So with the new Ft Wilderness lcoation for the sleigh rides, we should be able to see the campers decorations correct?

Yes!!! We are doing it next week and I am very excited to see some of the campsites.

We did the sleighride from the WL 5 years ago and it was kind of boring. Just riding along the dark path between the WL and the campground....nothing much to see at all.

I'm not sure how far into the campground the sleigh rides go, but they start in the Settlement area (near the marina) and there are a couple of loops of campsites very close to there with MASSIVE displays that you won't be able to miss. (check out the link above for some recent pics). :thumbsup2

I've seen more current pics from the Fort, and it seems to have been invaded by blow ups in the last week! :santa:

I have never done the sleigh ride, but I have booked a trip next week. The question I have is do you tip the driver? Is a gratuity expected? If so, how much do you tip in a situation like this?

We did it last week and did not tip. It didn't seem to be expected. I have read other reports where drivers refuse the tips.

If it is like the carriage rides, there is a sign inside the carriage that says tips are not allowed.

Thank you for the info. I have an envelope set aside with a tip for the driver. I will have it with me but won't offer it if we see that sign.

I did the sleigh ride last week. I thought it was very nice. I was glad you got to see the campers displays. It was hard to find as I'm not too familiar with the campground but once we did we had a really nice time. We did tip the woman and she seemed really surprised to get one so I'm thinking it's not expected. But it was a colder night so I think she really appreciated it.

So sorry they are not doing this at the WL any more. We have done it twice from there. In '06 it was the perfect place to re-give my wife, the real Becky 521, the the newly reset engagement ring for the one she had lost the stone out of. Had a great time ridibg behind Luke through the woods. Last Christmas we took aou two teenage daughters and had a great time. Glad we got the chance to do this while it was still around.

Our guide told us they moved it on their request. They said once you leave WL there isn't much to see so they prefer it over by the campers. They also said there were some hills along the old trail and the horses had to carry the weight of the sleigh and it was very tough on them.

Is it really a sleigh and has sleigh bells? Is it $60pp or $60 per sleigh? We have 2dd that would be with us. Do you have to make reservations? If so, how do you do that?
