We leave on the Magic next week. My best friend and I are rooming together in a Verandah room. We definitely don’t want to share a bed. When they do the turndown service, how do we let them know we want the couch turned into a bed? Thank you!

Your stateroom host will try to catch you sometime before you go to dinner. So if you are in your room putting away stuff, they will most likely stop by to introduce themselves. They hang out in that general area and you can step out of the room and flag them down.

We've always met our room cm on the first day when we've gotten to our cabin. I think they usually try to be around to greet/meet you and to introduce themselves to you. You can tell him/her then. If you don't see them then, you could leave a note on the bed.

The couch turns into a bed in literally a second. You just pull it down and there is the mattress, sheets, blankets and pillow all in one place! Already made up!

Can I ask, how did you two decide who's getting the bed and who's getting the couch?

I travel with friends most of the time and I don't remember ever having a discussion about it. I think the person who enters first gets the first choice. It happens organically.
The only time we made a conscious choice was when we were in Disneyland Tokyo. There were three of us, the room had 2 queens, so officially suitable for 4 people. The hotel had added a single bed so we each had our own bed. This bed was smaller than the 2 queens, so we decided that the shortest friend had to sleep in the single bed.

You can also wait to make the decision till both beds are made in the evening, try both beds and then make a decision. Maybe one mattress is firmer than the other and one of you have a preference. You can always switch have way through, or flip a coin.

Well my parents are paying for everyone since it’s their 50th anniversary so by me bringing my friend she gets a free cruise. I don’t really care either way, neither does she. We may switch halfway, maybe not. Maybe I’ll sleep on the verandah 😆

The bed is soooooo comfortable, if I were you, I'd say, "since they are my parents, I get the good bed."

Or, to keep things happy with the best friend you say, "I get the BIG bed". The sofa is a regular mattress, so it isn't like a foam folding mattress found in a typical sleeper sofa. The "good" bed is implying that the friend gets a 'bad' bed.

One of my friends and I shared a room in September on the Dream and we forgot to tell them....they turned it down automatically. We were at DW a few days before and I let her have the bed at Saratoga (so I got the "nap mat couch"...uggghhh....so she kindly let me have the bed on the cruise.:). She did say it was very comfortable and it's so nice that there is a curtain divider! I stayed up late reading and she went to sleep early.
The room attendants will try and introduce themselves the first day and you can also tell them then.

I like the sofa bed on DCL. I don’t think it’s a “booby prize.” If you are much over 5’6” though you will probably be too tall for it.

Be aware, while most of the "sofa beds" on DCL are the pullman-style (back folds down over seat), regular twin size bed type,

there are some typical pull-out sofa (double bed) types on the Dream class.

My friend and I went on a cruise and she had the real bed. The one I had was the 'bad bed,' it was uncomfortable for sure.
