I'm a little confused in regards to how the beds are set-up in Cat 6. More so (confused) having just spoken to a DVC CM. I asked if there was a pull-down bunk-bed type situation in our stateroom. It will be myself, dh, and 2 dd's. Our cabin # is 6084. The DVC CM told me there are only pull-down (Murphy-style) beds in Cat 4 cabins. He (tried) to explain to me that my girls could both sleep on the fold-out double sofa and described it like they'd be sleeping side-by-side ? I thought the sofa beds were only singles ?
I'm pretty confused because I went to this web site and found this picture :
http://home.att.net/~denise-williams/wonder/stateroom.htm
These look like bunk-type beds to me ? The DVC CM said we had a "quad". Now granted, this is a picture of cabin #7562 (a Cat 5), but I didn't think there was much difference between the Cat 5 & 6 except the deck ? Can anyone help me out--maybe someone out there has stayed in our room (#6084) ? Thanks so much :D

I have never stayed in a CAT 6 before (two CAT 10 cruises) but we have one booked for next May. I think the "pull down" bed he was refering to in the CAT 4 is not a bunk bed but rather a Murphy bed that folds down out of the wall. This cabin is bigger to accomodate this and thus the higher category. I think that CAT 6 cabins have the same bunk bed setup that our CAT 10 rooms did. The bunk bed stows in the ceiling when not in use. Your room steward will pull it down for you in the evening if you need it. I don't think two people (even kids) would be very comfortable in the converted sofa bed.

It's possible that there may be a mix of CAT 6 cabins with and without the bunk bed setup.

Thanks...this is what I was thinking. But the CM totally threw me for a loop when he said we had a "double" sofa bed and the girls would be sleeping side-by-side ?

From what I can tell the Category 6 that sleeps 4 has "bunk Bed" type beds. The sofa folds down to make a twin bed and the other pulls down from the ceiling. The murphey bed is in a higher category I believe.

Check out this web site for pictures.

My brother had a Cat. 6 stateroom (6066). What they had was a queen-size bed plus a sofa bed. They have only 1 child but I think that 2 children could easily sleep on the sofa bed. When the sofa was made into a bed it made getting out onto the verandah a little difficult. You had to climb over it to get to the verandah.

In looking at my Disney brochure this is what the descriptions say:

"Deluxe Family Stateroom w/Verandah. Category 4. Queen-size bed or two twin beds, single convertible sofa and wall pull-down bed, privacy divider, split bath, private verandah (Sleeps 4, some sleep 5) 304 sq. ft.

Deluxe Stateroom w/Verandah Category 5 & 6/Deluxe Stateroom w/Navigator's Verandah Category 7 (enclosed private verandah). Queen-size bed or two twin beds and single convertible sofa, privacy divider, split bath (Sleeps 3 some sleep 4) 268 sq. ft.

All in all, you get more stateroom space in a Cat. 4. plus Cat. 4 staterooms are on Deck 8, Cat. 5's on Deck 7, Cat. 6 on Decks 6 and some on Deck 5). HTH.

Here's a picture of the convertable sofa (lower) and pull-down bed from the ceiling (upper):

I don't agree that "2 children could easily sleep on the sofa bed." It's strictly a single bed. But that doesn't matter because they won't book more than 4 passengers into a cat. 5 or cat. 6 stateroom, and it they book 4 passengers, they'll only book a stateroom that has the bed that comes down from the ceiling. So there should never be case when 2 children have to sleep in the single convertable sofa.

Not all cat. 5 and cat. 6 staterooms have the bed that comes down from the ceiling, and none of the cat. 7 staterooms have it. Such staterooms have a maximum occupancy of 3.

I also don't agree that "When the sofa was made into a bed it made getting out onto the verandah a little difficult." The convertable sofa is hardly any wider when it's a bed that when it's a sofa. Only the cat. 4 murphy beds block the verandah door.

I also agree about the 2 children should not have to fit on the sofa bed ---especially because they're older (10 & 12 yrs). Maybe if they were in the 3-6 year old range ?
Here's the slight concern I have as far as your statement regarding booking 4 people in a cat 5 or 6. We booked 2 staterooms through the DVC. In order to save on points (and this was DVC's idea), they booked us 3 and 3. I specifically said to them that I wanted my mil and 15 year old son in the cat 11 across the hall. They said "no problem"......Disney doesn't care who sleeps where--- it's just for the sake of saving points that we're booking 3 into each cabin." I've asked on three occassions since then, whether or not 4 will be able to sleep in the cat 6 and they said "yes" every time. I just don't expect to have my girls sqeezing into that single sofa bed together---though the DVC CM said it was a double sofa bed ?
I'm thinking I might want to double-check and call the Disney Cruise Line to ask them exactly what the sleeping arrangements will be in #6084 specifically. Thanks for everyone's input and for the links. I'm hoping for a bed that pulls down from the ceiling. We originally had a cat 4 booked and I know those have a Murphy bed, but when we decided to treat my mil to the cruise also, it didn't make point-sense to keep the cat 4 because she still needed a cabin for herself and we could only afford to book her in a cat 11. Since there are no cat 11's on the deck that has the cat 4's, we went with a cat 6 & 11 instead. She would not feel comfortable being too far from us (i.e. on another deck). Thanks again all.

I am not exactly sure why theybooked you 3 and 3. The third and fourth person in a cabin are the same point value/cash value.

To ease your concerns, there are no double bed sofas in any of the Cat 6 cabins. You have to go up to Cat 3 to get a double bed sofa. If a Cat 6 sleeps 4, you will have the configuration as pictured above.

The CM is mistaken. My guess is that the CM has never actually been in a cat. 6 stateroom. It's reasonable to assume that a sofabed pulls out into a double bed; after all, that's how it works at the DVC resorts. But that's not how it works on the Disney ships.

You might also want to call DVC Member Services and have them update your reservation to reflect your actual sleeping arrangements accurately. As TnRobin stated, "I am not exactly sure why they booked you 3 and 3. The third and fourth person in a cabin are the same point value/cash value." By updating the reservation you'll accomplish three things:
  • You'll know that your cat. 6 stateroom has a bed the comes out of the ceiling, because the computer won't let the agent book four guests into the room unless it has such a bed.
  • The stateroom host/hostess will know how to make up the room ahead of time, including how to set up the bedding.
  • In the unlikely case of an emergency, they'll know how many passengers are sleeping in each room.

I'd definately call DVC and update how everyone is going to be sleeping, for the reasons stated above. My concern is that since you booked 3 and 3, you might have a category 6 stateroom that only sleeps 3 and not 4. I'd call and confirm that with DCL, it would be a big suprise to get to the stateroom and find only the sofa bed, when you need the pull down bed as well.

And this is exactly what I found out yesterday when I called the Disney Cruise Line directly ! :(
I was on-hold for the better part of 40 minutes between the DCL and the DVC. They both know I'm very upset. It's not like I haven't called to inquire about the sleeping arrangements over the past months at least 3 times ? At the time we made the reservation with the DVC my husband clearly stated we wanted the girls together with us. He told them they always hang out together and share the same bed when on vacations & would be upset if they were seperated. The DVC actually let him have a 3-way call with the DCL that day in February. Even the DCL told us that cabin 6084 would sleep the two girls and us ? This is just so bizarre. I know I called a couple weeks later (perhaps late Feb) to double-check on this. I had been looking at one of the original travel brochures of the Disney Cruise Line the year they first sailed. That brochure actually shows the "sleep 4" cabins and where they are located and ours was not one. I called again with my concerns and told the DVC that I feared #6084 would not sleep 4 and AGAIN he put me on hold while he confirmed with the cruise line directly. He came back on and said to me "you can't go by that brochure...the Wonder is different".
I'm just beside myself with this mess----especially since I called on Monday for the third time and once again the DVC told me the girls would be able to sleep in our cabin with us. We had also mentioned once or twice back at the time of booking that my mil (whom we're taking with us) is going through chemotherapy and I did not want the responsibility of my younger children on her. She tires very easily since beginning her treatments---and besides, we wanted our 10 & 12 year old with us. We don't think we could have made ourselves any clearer to the DVC ? And, as recently as Monday they assured us all was fine. So imagine my shock when the DCL rep tells me it's a sleep 3 ? For some reason the DVC booked us like that (to "save points they told us")even though we made it known right from the start we wanted 4 & 2. They told us by booking 3 and 3 that it would not affect us getting a sleep 4 in our cat 6 ? They said this to both my husband and I on seperate dates.
So....as it stands now, after 40 minutes on the phone yesterday they said they'd have to call me back in an hour. I told them I had to go to work and could they please leave a message on my machine. Larry from the DVC said he would. I came home from work last night to find his message. He stated that DVC management is now involved and working directly with the DCL to correct this problem. I will be waiting patiently by the phone on Monday to hear from them. I'll let you all know how this turns out on Monday. I know our Nov 3 cruise is not fully booked, so I'm hoping they can find a cabin that sleeps 4 not too far away from the cat 11. We were going to be right across the hall from eachother (6084 and 6085) which was very nice. My mil is sharing the cat 11 with my 15 year old son. If we have to be further apart from eachother, so be it. I won't be thrilled, but it will be better than not having one of my daughters in our stateroom with us. Thanks for listening to my woes. Fingers crossed.........

Maria, I hope it all works out for you and I'm sure it will!!!! Hopefully we'll get to meet up, we're in 6616, so we're not that far away!!!!

Thanks Lori ! I'm hoping it works out too. I'd love to meet up with you.

Please let us know how this works out.
I will do that Werner Weis and TnRobin. I don't hold out much hope because I did a check on Travelocity for cabin availability. There are no "sleep 4" Cat 6 rooms available for Nov 3---only a couple Cat 5's. Would they upgrade us to a Cat 5 ? Who knows ? If they did, this would mean we'd be on deck 5 and my mil and son would be on deck 6. Not what we planned or requested back in February. :( Then I even considered maybe they'd upgrade another party to a Cat 5 who might presently have a Cat 6 "sleep 4" ? All these things are floating through my mind.
I'm a little nervous with what they may or may not tell me on Monday.

We were in 6084 on Aug 17 on the Magic. It is a great room, in a great location, but I can assure you that it was a room for 3 with only a queen bed and a pull out couch (for ONE person). No bunks or pull-downs.

Thanks for the confirmation Ruth. I wish I would have had this kind of a direct answer from both the DVC & DCL back in Feb & March when I questioned it. For some reason, the DVC thought my 10 & 12 year old girls could share the sofa bed ?? I will indeed miss this location if they move us for sure. I know I was very happy to be mid-ship location. But at this point getting a "sleep 4" is more important to me.
Well....today is the day the DVC is supposed to get back to me with a solution.....we shall see.

UPDATE :
Just got a call from Larry from the DVC. He's informed me that we are being upgraded to deck 7 (from deck 6). We will be placed in a "sleep 4" cabin, Cat 5 (we had a Cat 6). My mil and son will be placed in a cat 11---but right across the hall from us. They are cabins 7638 & 7631. They are handicapped-accessible rooms with the metal aft verandah. I'm also not mid-ship anymore, but I can't complain at this point. I'm just glad I got the "sleep 4". Now.....can anyone tell me what to expect from these handicap rooms ? Seems both of these cabins (cat 5 & 11) are designated as such ? They do seem a little larger according to the deck layout I'm looking at ? Anyone have any experience with these ? Think we'll get very motion-sick being at the very Aft of the ship ? Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions in response to my sleeping arrangement plight.

I can speak only to your motion sickness question, and that is to reassure you that I doubt very, very highly that there is any difference at all in that regard.

I am glad it all worked out for you.
