Sleep Sets and Nightgowns as alternative to Customs?

Just wondering if anyone has used the nightgowns, with bike shorts or similar under them, or the sleep sets as clothing in the parks for your girls?

I know it might be odd but it's not that much different from other t-shirts and shorts and they are SUPER cute. I'd love to do custom clothing etc. but with 3 kids I'd go broke.

I've seen little girls with the nightgowns on in the parks; it's a good alternative in my opinion.
When my DD was little she would always fall asleep on the bus ride back to the resort. We sometimes found it easier to just put her jammies on before we headed out in the evening. They were usually similar to the ones you posted.

Why not? It's adorable. Lots nicer than most that you see on little girls.

I think I might get a couple, she can always use more PJ's anyway. I think as long as the material isn't too polyester it should be okay for afternoon late day wear.

When DD was 3, I bought her a nightgown that looked just like a dress. I guess the polyester material made it sleepware, but she got so many compliments on it at WDW. It had a tulle skirt and an Minnie applique. Best part was that I bought it for like $4 at a resale shop.

Customs are cute, but there's plenty of affordable options that are just as adorable.

Cute and to be honest before we went for our first time I got really worked up about clothing and matching tshirts but really nobody cared what we wore. There are literally thousands of people and as long as your clean and comfortable and your inside clothes are inside your clothes (okay my preference) you will be perfectly fine

Btw dd is running around in her Cinderella dress from the Disney store right this minute and it is most assuredly polyester.

When we went in June 2012, I had a hard time finding Disney tank tops for my (then) 3 yr old DD...I bought the PJ short sets with the tank tops and she wore the tank tops with her regular shorts...and she still wears them as pjs! But, since she fell asleep most nights on the bus, I should have thought about just letting her wear the whole set

I saw some cute ones online at Target.

Definitely a great idea. I sew so I made my niece Princess sundresses.

I doubt most people would even notice that it was pajamas/nightgown. Those that did are probably kicking themselves that they didn't do it.

So now the big question though is it too "baby" looking for a 9 year old. She will be 9 on our trip just turned a week before.

Nope, not weird in the slightest! DD has definitely worn similar sleepwear as regular clothing. I even purposely buy most of her sleep sets and nightgowns from Laura Dare because the pieces interchange easily from sleepwear to playwear!

Honestly I could see it on a 4 or 5 year old, but 9 does seem old to me to wear pajamas in the park. Do you think she'd be willing to wear them? My DD10 wouldn't have when she was 9. She doesn't usually care much what other people think (about anything) but I think knowing she was wearing pj's would have been an issue for her. Guess you'd have to ask her to find out.

I've never had my kids wear pajamas in the parks, but my DDs do wear the Disney pajamas to sleep in nearly every night. If you are going to go that route, I would recommend having the wear at WDW be the first wear, because there is quite a bit of pilling on a lot of the Disney PJs we have.

My DD 9 wouldn't be caught dead in that at the parks. She has a set almost exactly like that, wore it to school a bit reluctantly on pajama day but just about died of embarrassment when we had to stop in at the grocery store for something on the way home from school. I think they look very pajama-y and 4 or 5 would be ok, but at 9....
That said, no one is going to notice or care ar Disney. It's just what you and your DD feel comfortable with.

I agree depends on the age. I don't think my girls would have (7 and 9) but for 5 or younger you bet I would have had no problem putting them in something like that It's cute and looks comfy.
I got my girls their princess dresses off Little Dress Up Shop. Cute, comfortable and not as expensive as from the Disney store LOL Other than that I bought a few Disney shirts from Old Navy and The Children's Place and had some DISigners from on these boards make me a few designs to print on transfer paper for shirts I made myself for us. Worked beautifully!

It does look a bit young for a 9 year old. Have you though about her wearing the top with a pair of jean/khaki shorts or capris? It would look more like a tshirt that way and maybe more age appropriate?

Sure they will notice. My son does. "Mom, that looks like pajamas. Why is she wearing pajamas?" Has been said, quietly, more than once by my son. No one is saying it to the child but to say it won't be noticed at all doesn't ring true for me.

But the only time we've had DS in pjs at Disney has been under the clothes when it's cold, as a layer and because he refuses to wear "long underwear" because it has "underwear" in the name. I was never one for wearing pjs in public, not even when DS was a baby. So that might be why he notices, because he knows he's always wearing day clothes in public. At least as the top layer.

Hmmmm... While I still think it is a cute set I am not sure it is age appropriate for a nine year old.. Even if it were not labeled as pajamas...will she want to wear it out in public? 9 is a tough age (my oldest son is 9 and while he doesn't care about clothes he mostly wears non character clothes).

My kids wouldn't say anything because we strongly discourage both whispering and talking about other people.

I think its fine for the under 5 set, but there is no way my girls would have worn jammies in public. They were all pretty fashion conscious at that age.

Most families take a lot of pictures at Disney, so the image of what she wears will be preserved for posterity. I don't know about your family members, but in many families you would be setting her up for a lifetime of being teased about having worn pajamas to the parks. If kids at school see a picture of her in that outfit, they could be merciless. My nieces wouldn't have worn that outfit at 7, let alone 9, even if it were marketed as clothing rather than pajamas. A child doesn't need to wear Disney clothing just because she's at Disney World. If she has T-shirts and shorts or pants that fit, she can wear those. You don't need to spend money on custom vacation clothes.
