Sleep Park Fly for DTW

Hi Everyone,

we just spent the night at the America's Best near DTW. They are one of the hotels offering the sleep park and fly package, they are the cheapest that I found and we decided to try them out for the night while we were in Detroit before we made a reservation for our January trip. The room was clean but did smell like cigarette smoke (even though it was a non smoking room), the bed was not very comfortable and the pillows were hard and there were only 2 pillows...and when I requested more pillows be brought, they didn't show up....it was not a terrible experience, but if you are hoping for a good night's sleep before you take off I would suggest investigating one of the other hotels. As far as the "park" part goes, after reading their ad, we were under the impression, that the shuttle would be picking you up at the hotel, this is not how this particular hotel works, you spend the night...reload your bags and drive over to the secure parking area and catch the shuttle from there.

My Aunt and Uncle are in Hawaii right now and they used the Ramada Inn Sleep Park Fly pkg. They will be back next week and I will post what their impression of the Ramada's service was like.

Hope this has helped anyone who is looking for a good SPF pkg at DTW.

Thanks for sharing that - we have the Fairfield Inn and suites booked for our SPF in March - $109 was the rate - not too bad. I'll be sure to post how it was when we return!

Thanks for posting. That is one of the park 'n fly hotels that I am considering. The rate is half of what the other places are. I'm not sure that I like the idea of driving to the parking lot the next day though. I would rather park the car the night before and just take the hotel shuttle in the morning. But for the difference in price....???? Did you try out the free breakfast?

We did this one in October and found the hotel just fine. It was comfortable, big room. Yes, had to drive the van to the parking area, but the shuttle was quick and efficient. They give you vouchers for the days that you will leave your vehicle there, so it ends up being free.

BTW - the breakfast, if memory serves, was a choice of bagels, muffins, donuts, coffee, juices, etc. Can't remember if you could get cereal. We just grabbed some bagels.

We used the Howard Johnsons on Merriman in October. It cost us $94 for the one nite and 8 nites parking. Same thing, we had to follow the shuttle to the lot and loaded up there. Breakfast was bagels muffins etc... The room was fine and the shuttle was right outside the terminal when we arrived back. I jumped on it and my DW stayed back with the kids and rounded up the luggage and was waiting for me when I returned.
We will definately do this again since it sure beat hassling with the border in the morning. What a pain that can be!!!

I was wondering on your experience with "smell" of the facility...meaning was there an obvious smell of cigarette smoke? This is one of the main reason's why we have decided against using the America's Best. I am allergic and tend to be very sensitve to certain smells. I finally got around to unpacking our overnight bag from the weekend today to do laundry and couldn't believe the overpowering smell of cigarettes that came off of our clothes....(I think I emptied an entire bottle of Febreeze on the suitcase )

We are responsible for making the arrangements for our entire group...the kids don't care and either will my mother but my husband's parents are a little more.... .....and have higher expections. DMIL does not sleep well away from home so we are trying to "ease" her into the trip!....freeways, downtown Detroit, 1st plane ride...I think that we will have to drug her! but I think its great that she's willing to face so many of her fears to finally get to Disney for the first time

Did you have the breakfast at America's Best? If so what was available?

I don't recall any problem with smelly rooms and I can usually pick that up right away. If you're dealing with a we've stayed at what used to be The Doubletree which is now the Metropolitan many times. It's a beautiful hotel, but since it's changed ownership the service was a bit lacking. No major problems, but a whole bunch of little things that added up in a short 12 hour stay. (we requested a main floor room 2 months in advance, didn't get it, requested a crib 3 times, it finally came at 9 pm, no cream for the coffee at the cont. breakfast and they weren't willing to look for any, most menu items not available on room service menu) All just service issues. It think they're park n fly is $129/ngh. You park across the street too. They also had a great indoor pool which was very warm.

Has anyone stayed at the fairfield inn at DTW for SPF? We paid in advance and got the rate of $109 plus tax. It seemed to have good ratings on the sites I found the reviews on. Just wondering where we will be parking and how the rooms were.

Interesting you posted this as my In laws just used America's Best for their trip in Oct and felt for the money it was a great value and the room was fine and the bed and service were great. They also liked teh price as they had ressies at teh Mariott and it saved them over 200 bucks by switching to the ABV inn and suits.

My Aunt and Uncle just returned from Hawaii and they used the Ramada SPF and said that they would absolutely use them again...they had no wait for the shuttle and the continental breakfast was excellent and it starts at 4:30AM...the beds were super comfy and there was no noticeable cigarette odor in the facility...(my Aunt is very sensitive to cigarette smells and she would definitely notice)...we have decided to book the Ramada

Interesting you posted this as my In laws just used America's Best for their trip in Oct and felt for the money it was a great value and the room was fine and the bed and service were great. They also liked teh price as they had ressies at teh Mariott and it saved them over 200 bucks by switching to the ABV inn and suits.

I agree the price that AB offer's is excellent, however, the experience left both DH and I positive that it was not for us. I just wanted to share our experience so that others could make an informed decision as to which SPF would be best for them.

I agree the price that AB offer's is excellent, however, the experience left both DH and I positive that it was not for us. I just wanted to share our experience so that others could make an informed decision as to which SPF would be best for them.

I am glad as many people have many different tastes it isn't for everyone and all input from others helps both good and bad.

The things I've heard about the Ramada lately are swaying me that way - the parking lot being across the street (convenient to take the car there the night before) and the breakfast is a real plus since meals are no longer served on the plane. So.......now I'll have to give the Ramada a call and see what the rate is - I can't find a rate for park 'n fly on the website.

If you book the Ramada, ask for a 3rd floor room. The 1st & 2nd floor are exterior entrances and the 3rd floor is interior. It's their business/executive class rooms. The pictures that they have online are pretty accurate, I would say.

We have 7 people going...we booked 2 rooms...1 reg. night was under $60.00 and 1 SPF which I believe is $98.00 with 7 nights parking...I believe the rate for 2 adults was supposed to be $89.00 for 7 nights parking but we have a 3rd adult in our room....we will be "parking the van for 8 nights" and I believe that the extra night is $7.00...which I believe you pay when you leave the parking lot when you get back. DH made the arrangements and was a little frustrated with the reservation clerk as she seemed to be a little confused, he thinks that she was in training as she kept putting him on hold to check on things...he hates that
Have lots of fun on your trip! ...I am not sure if I should hope the snow stays so that I can appreciate the warm weather or hope it goes away...we have friends that just returned from vacation to a FULL driveway ...they live in the coronation park area and as of yesterday still hadn't had their street plowed ...oh well, he has a snowblower so I won't feel too bad for him!...I will hope that we don't get dumped on while you or we are gone 'cause it would really suck to come home to a full driveway

Thanks for the tip about the interior corridor rooms. I booked the Ramada and got just that.
