Sleep Number Beds

We bought our Sleep Number bed last summer. I was pregnant, and our old mattress was AWFUL. The last straw was the night I had a dream I was in a Chinese torture camp, and I woke up in excruciating pain. That weekend we bought the bed. We paid extra to have the Sleep Number people set it up and to take our old mattress. It was the best thing I could have done.

The first night sleeping on the bed, I had the number set to 100, and I woke up with absolutely no hip or back pain. I slept so well the last few weeks of my pregnancy and have kept the number at 100 (much to my surprise). my husband likes that he can have the bed set really firm while he is up on his computer and can soften the bed for sleep. Also, he used to wake me up getting into bed, but because of the two chambers he can get in and out of bed without disturbing my side of the bed.

It's a thumbs up for me. Even if you don't go with the bed (we bought our's during labor day and saved about $300), check out the accessories. The rest and read pillow is awesome.

We've had ours for 18 years. Then bought DD20 one of her own 12 years ago - just the basic twin and under $200 back then. Getting ready to buy a third - this one for DD9. Boy, have SN prices gone up...

We've had pumps replaced three times - twice on DD20's bed and once on ours - and DD20's inner chamber replaced another time. We've never paid a replacement fee on our older SN beds but I'm told the warranty has changed since we purchased.

The only problem I have with our bed is that it's so comfy that it makes it hard to sleep on regular hotel mattresses when we're away. :guilty:

We bought a memory foam mattress last year instead of the select comfort and we are so glad we did. The Tempur-Pedics are pretty expensive. We ended going with http://www.bedinabox.com/. We bought the bamboo covered model. It was a great choice IMO.

We absolutely love our sleep number bed. Have had it for 5 years, no problems with pump or remote. We also have not experienced the problems the PPs mentioned with feeling the other person get in/out of bed.

I know 3 other couples who also have them and love them......haven't met anyone in person who didn't like it.

I guess it is a personal preference, like so many things in life! Good luck with whatever bed you choose!

Thank you everyone for your info. Can anyone tell me what model they bought? We are looking at their special model, it is similar to the P5, the pillow top is just a different fabric and maybe 1/4 of an inch thinner.

I absolutely love my sleep number bed. I've had it two years, the kind with memory foam and the convoluted foam on both sides, as part of a mattress topper. I have no idea what the model is. It feels the same as the day I bought it, and their tests show no difference in performance after 20 years--it's still considered "like new". For the first few months I couldn't wait to get in bed at night. Really, I still feel that way :lovestruc There are so many people that read this board that you are bound to get some naysayers, but really, I think you will be very happy with this bed. My neighbors have a Tempurpedic, and they hated it. It "sank" after a year or so, and the replacement they were given was not the same. Just saying :confused3

I just purchased the p5 and we've had our other mattress for several years and it is the equivalent to the new p5. Totally worth it to us.

We had one for about 4 yrs. Hated it! It started losing air & wouldn't stay the way we'd set it. It was okay for about a yr, after that I started getting terrible back pain. Customer service was no help at all. We bought a Serta (not a cheap one ) & hated it too. DS wanted to try our sleep number mattress (he thought we were just being picky) & he hated it. He has our Serta now.

We just bought a Tempurpedic adjustable before Thanksgiving. OMG! :love:I sleep like a baby. Even DH (he's pickier than me) loves it. We paid $3800-expensive I know but well worth it! It has a built in massage.:cloud9:When DH or I move the other person doesn't even notice. And it's guaranteed not to sag-they'll replace it if it does. Yea-we could've went w/o the adjustable/massage option but we just went all out & I'm so glad we did!

We have one and loved it in the store but hated it at home. We gave it a year before giving it away. We had separate chambers but there is a big difference in size between my husband and I and the bed was like a cliff in the middle.

Customer service was no help.

Everyone has their own opinions but I have talked to others that also had the size difference and they experienced the same problem.

This is a very good point, and I am glad you mentioned it. I forgot that our remote when kaput a few years ago, and it cost $130 to replace it...obcene! I have not had our pump go, but we rarely use the pump anyway since we generally just keep it on our number(s).

Our remote and pump are integrated so you can't replace one without the other. I think it was the remote that went bad but you can't just replace that.

We bought one in 2003 and loved it. We later upgraded to a king size bed and went with another Sleep Number bed. We wouldn't be without it.

As a former Select Comfort Customer Service Supervisor, I will say think about it long and hard. The bed does not always work for people who "cuddle" all night long. There is always that dip between the chambers. The foam is NOT covered under the warranty and wear and tear is a very misleading statement. The pumps seem to have a known issue with the LCD going out. The pump will run, you just wont know what # you are at. The Numbers can also move around but that is just physics-the air should be the same in the bed.

The bed does come in boxes. Home Delivery isn't a good thing, most people can install it themselves. Plus if you return the bed you are on the hook for the initial service and the the return shipping. The installers take the boxes with them so you don't have boxes left to return it in. My advice is install it yourself. Either way just know that you are responsible for the return shipping.

I left the company because of the customer service center changing hours. I enjoyed the company and do like my bed. Have had one since 2000. Actually own 2 of them.

We bought our sleep number bed about 8 years ago and had the mildew problem. Do a google search to learn more.

We have one and love it. I have heard of some of the problems that others have mentioned, but thankfully never ran into the mildew problem or the pump going out yet. We actually have two now, a queen and a king. Managed to get an awesome deal on the king as a friend worked at a mattress/bed store and gave us his discount. The extra topper layer of memory foam or whatever it is seems to hold heat and does make it quite warm if we use too many blankets/covers.

There is a trial period, but read the fine print on it. We saw that we'd be responsible for shipping and a return stock fee, I think.

That said, we love it and I can hardly sleep on any other beds anymore as they end up giving me problems. ( I sleep on a REALLY low number). Even managed to talk the inlaws into a set. They didn't like it at first on the first few nights, but they have finally found the setting they liked and now say they wouldn't trade it at all.

Regardless of whether you grab a Sleep number or not, here's to hoping you get a comfy bed! :wizard:

We love our Select Comfort! We bought ours 10 years ago when I was pregnant. It was the best thing during pregnancy. As my body changed, I was able to adjust the mattress and slept so well. That being said, there is an adjustment period until you find the # that works for you. Also, there did seem to be a "gap" in the middle of the bed that I would sometime "roll into". Either we got used to it or it disappeared because I only noticed it the first few months. When we get a new Select Comfort, DD gets our old one. We will not even consider a different type of mattress.

Good luck and I hope whatever you choose works out.
