I am looking for a bed that won't leave me and my wife in pain waking up and one that regulates temperatures for hot flashes and all around comfort.

Does anyone out there own a sleep # bed or a memory foam materess?
Any info would be appreciated. All the info online seems to be mixed and I would like to hear unbiased accounts both good and bad.

Thanks in advance

We have a memory foam.

HATE IT! HATE IT! HATE IT!

It was supposed to cool you down, but you sink into it so much it is like sleeping in a pit and it is hot. I have a fan running at full speed right at the foot of the bed to keep it cool.

Turning over is a chore because you are stuck in it.

Did I say I HATE IT.

BUT DH loves it.

My SIL also has a tempurpedic. She hates it with a passion too. Her DH loves it.

I think memory foam is a love or hate relationship.

No experience with memory foam, but my BIL was given a nearly new sleep number bed by a client of his who hated it. My sister and BIL gave it away a few weeks later to someone else because they hated it too, lol.

Dh and I also have the same problem finding a mattress that is comfortable for both of us. I'm not really joking when I tell him we should each get our own bed......:)

Agree that memory foam is a death-trap. I'd love to try a sleep-number bed and as I understand it, some hotels have them. I haven't found one yet but I'm keeping my eye out every time I make travel plans.

And for ORMom, I feel you. We've never been "sleep-cuddlers" and twin beds are a secret dream of mine! :thumbsup2

We have 6 inches of memory foam on top of a regular mattress. Could never go back to a regular mattress. We absolutely LOVE our mattress and we both work in the public service, so our bodies go through some pretty long days. Downfall? memory foam absorbs and retains heat-a big downfall if you get warm at night.

We love our sleep number bed. I keep mine set at 75, on the firm side. DH likes his at 65. You need to select a number and stick with it for a couple of weeks to get used to it. Then you can change it a little at a time until it feels right. A lot of people change their number too early and too often and end up frustrated and hating the mattress.

We've had a Sleep Number bed for about 15 years. I really like a soft mattress, hubs likes a firm mattress. I was mattress shopping a few months ago for our guest bedroom and decided my next bed was going to be an adjustable bed. They are really comfy!! I tried the actual Tempurpedic Memory Foam beds and I did not like those at all. The store brand or "off" brand beds I tried were actually very comfortable. With a King size you can get different firmness levels on each side, so that will work for us. The store I was at had cooling mattress pads and pillows. I don't know how well the mattress pad works but you could tell a difference in the temp on the pillow. Who knows how long that lasts though.

I have had a Sleep Number for over 10 years and I love it!

I have a very bad lower back. My neuro doc and I are on a first name basis :rotfl2: Not really :goodvibes, but I do visit them at least 4 times a year. This bed has made it much easier to get up in the morning.

Let me say that I LOVE a soft squishy bed! Feels great laying down on at the end of a long day. When I first purchased this bed, I started off at a 35. But as time went by, and my back got worse, it killed me to get up in the morning. I went up to a 70, life is now good. But I didn't have that nice soft feeling :(. So, on the advice of a fellow DISer, I purchased a 4 inch memory foam topper off of eBay from a seller called bed-dr. I am in :cloud9: again!!! I have the firmess my back tells me I need, but still have that soft, cradling feeling from the topper. The topper doesn't make me feel hot, no issues there.

I do believe that the Sleep Number is a bed you either love or hate. I don't see many middle of the road reviews.

We had one, and I agree with a PP--Hated it! (DH loved it, of course)

It held the heat so bad. And once the "memory" part kicked in, it was horrible trying to change positions or spots---I would slide right back into that me-shaped dip.

We bought a new mattress with a small memory foam top on it, and hated the foam on it too. I bought a big mattress pad to put on the top of it, and still hate it.

Going sleep number for the next mattress.

We've had a sleep number bed for about 7 years and I hate it. I can't wait until we can replace it - before that we had a latex (not memory foam) mattress and it was awesome, but we decided to get a king size bed and couldn't afford the latex.

For me, it seems that I am ALWAYS adjusting that stupid sleep number. If DH moves over even a tiny bit onto my side of the bed suddenly it's like a rock, so I adjust it down. If he rolls away, I'm laying on the bottom of the mattress. If the dog jumps on the bed I'm sleeping on a rock again. I find it very annoying. :(

Temperpedic all the way. I have had mine for a year and it was the best thing I have ever bought. I spent $4000 on mine and and would have spent double on it. You will not be disappointed!!!

My dad hated his sleep number & gave it to DS. It was a queen. HATED HATED the huge divider in the middle. That was enough for us to get rid of it, didn't give it enough time to figure out DS's 'number'!

I recently got one of these 14 inch gel foam mattresses at costco. Awesome bed for me, but that doesnt mean it will be awesome for you. Everyone is different and that's why you see so many mixed reviews about every bed. I got mine at costco because I know I can return it without any problems if I wasnt satisfied.

My mom and dad have a sleep number mattress that they like a lot. DH and I find out Tempur-pedic mattress very comfortable.

I've heard you can get Tempurpedic with cooling gel.

My parents used to love their Sleep Number. They say that it doesn't seem to hold its firmness/softness anymore and they have to constantly adjust it. They say they have been awakened because it became uncomfortable in the middle of the night. Also, Mom says the sides of it sort of fall down (not sure what she means by this). I wouldn't be able to stand the divider in the middle.

They had some kind of a latex foam type of bed in the past and it was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on.

Had a temperpedic. It was awful! I'm the type of person who's always cold. Not on that furnace. The only comfortable position was on my back which I can't stand. I can safely say it was the most terrible bed I had ever slept on. We returned it (thank goodness).

I've never actually slept on a sleep number. I have however slept on an air mattress for about a year (in my twins room when they were babies). I went to the sleep number showroom and laid on one and quickly had a flashback of sleeping on that crappy air mattress. Yikes!

Mattresses are a very difficult purchase. Hopefully you find the one for you. :)

We had a Sleep Number for a decade and it never was what we wanted, frequently woke up sore, etc.

Last year we did a lot of reserach and bought a memory foam with cooling gel from www.bedinabox.com and LOVE it. We call it our miracle matress because we go to bed with aches and pains and wake up fine. Check them out. Good, small American company. Great service. MUCH better prices than those overprices Swedish matresses which shall remain nameless...

That sounds great. What mattress did you get from the website? There are many different types? Just curious.
