Day 2-
We started out at the pool today, but I made sure that I had tons of sunscreen on and a tee shirt. I felt kind of stupid wearing a tee shirt in the pool, but the painful night I had trying to sleep the night before outweighed my vanity.
We started out by going down to the main pool at my DH's suggestion. We got an early start to make sure we could get a spot because it fills up early. It was before 9 a.m. and we all walked down there with our towels and sunscreen. I had told the kids about this one palm tree that I always used to find my way back to my room and this tree became a "symbol" of our trip, and also the mascot of the club that my nieces formed with me, you see, they think of me as a "big kid" and not an adult, mainly because I am the one that will do silly things with them. For example, this tree has a brick path around it that goes in a circle, so I told them all to follow me and when we got to the tree I started following the brick path, but I never stopped and they followed me around the tree several times until they started laughing like it was such fun. Well, it must have been that much fun because every time we went by the tree, they now had to walk around it several times and it became a silly ritual. Here is a picture of that tree in case any of you want to "follow in our footsteps".....the first one is the tree when I first met it in 2002 and the second is with my nieces who also adopted it in 2004.
Anyway, we went to the main pool and I went into OPR to get us breakfast and when I came back to my surprise the kids wanted to move back to the quiet pool! They felt like the water was too cold and wanted to go back, so that is what we did. Also, a tip-in the gift shop at OPR they sell small inner tubes for $3 each and also noodles for $4, these came in handy for the kids to play in the pool, and were even good enough for me and my DH to float around with.
We stayed in the pool for a few hours and then the rain came and we were in our rooms for a few hours while a storm passed through. Our plan for the evening was the Magic Kingdom and at about 5 p.m. we got brave and decided to just go for it and headed for the bus. It was only drizzling by this time, but when we got to the MK the first thing we did was buy rain ponchos for $6 each (for adults and $5 for kids). It sprinkled on and off while we were there but we did manage to ride the Carousel and Winnie the Pooh, Snow White and Peter Pan, plus checked out Mickey's Philharmagic, which we all loved. We stayed at MK until 8:30 p.m. and then headed back to CBR to get some dinner at OPR. As I predicted, once we purchased the rain ponchos, there would be no need for them the rest of the trip and that proved to be true as the weather was really decent for the rest of the trip, there were only occasional sprinklings or threatening skies w/o precipitation the remainder of the time we were there.
Today is the day that my niece, Nicole (4) decided to rename her Uncle Russell (my DH) to Uncle Weezy Octopus, a name that is now permanently affixed. This occurred when she saw a poster of Weezy the penguin in Mickey's Philharmagic. I have no idea where she got octopus from, she just came out with it and it stuck. Other vacationers on our bus rides and at the Jamaica quiet pool all caught on to this and a few of them greeted him with "hello Uncle Weezy Octopus" when they saw him.
After we ate, my 4 y.o niece and my sister and DH went back to the room, but my twin eight year old nieces wanted to "explore" so we went to the gift shop and then took a walk around CBR and finally took an "internal" shuttle bus back to Jamaica. This was their idea, they think it is so fun to ride the bus.
Will post some more tomorrow! Now I will leave you with some CBR shots....
The laundry room in Jamaica (and my silly niece)
