I just back from FLL. The skycaps were weighing all bags and putting an extra tag on each bag. The weight of the bag was written on the tag so it was clear the bag was weighed. The tags look like the old heavy tags but are blank so the actual weight is written.

I'm sure the skycap would have assisted in transferring items to an extra bag but I think the days of assuming a tipped skycap will look the other way is becoming history. Take an empty duffel bag so you can re-arrange stuff if you're over and to allow room for souvenirs for your return.

You are correct. All airlines are really cracking down on overweight luggage. It is advisable to make sure your bags are not overweight befroe leaving for the airport or be prepared to do some rearranging or pay some hefty fees.

We flew home from MCO last week and we were 4lbs over and Southwest was going to charge us $25.00 for only 4lbs! We just transferred a couple of things over to our other bag without any problems. :)

I heard another guy on the plane say he had to pay $25.00 and he was only 2lbs over! :headache:
