So, I'm trying to plan our next vacation and it's so up in the air.

On Thanksgiving I'll be sitting down with SIL who's never been. I'm hoping to talk her into a shared trip. And before the talk I want to gather as much info as possible. I feel good about the info I've gotten together on homes, but am still trying to get more on condos. We really only need a 3 bedroom 'anything' (or even two bedroom if it comes down to it).

I'm trying to figure out the RSG SkyAuction thing. Do you have to sit through the timeshare presentation there? That's the one thing I really don't want to have to do! Any other tips for RSG would be greatly appreciated!!!!

:cheer2: << I'm the Disney Cheerleader in my family!

Gimme a D-I-S-N-E-Y! What does it spell? Fun! Fun! Fun! *grin*

they will offer you the opportunity to "listen to a resort update" but you under no obligation to sit through a timeshare presentation when you win a RSG auction

they usually have a good selection of inventory for orlando but it also depends when you are going....major holidays they will not show as much inventory

your best bet is to find something you want on RSG, put it on hold and make sure you win the auction ( these auctions in the past have usually gone fro around 50$ thus the cost for the week would be 260 when you add the tax and service charge and processing fee ), thus you then know what you will be getting ( not as much as a crap shoot )

Thank you. I am looking through the skyauction site but cannot find a direct link to RSG. I clicked on 'Last Minute Getaways' and some of those say 'Ready Set Go'. Is that the correct way? I was more expecting a link from the front page.

you can just do a search for Ready and it should bring up all the auctions which are RSG

then you click on "more info"

then under item number 1

this should take you to a page Resort Search where you can put in your dates and then your destination to see what they have to offer

choose Region United States Florida - Orlando

if any resorts are available for the time frame you can

1. just look

or

2. put one on hold for the auction you are "pursuing" ( the hold lasts only as long as the auction goes, then it releases if you do not win )

do not be wary if there are no search results, the inventory is constantly changes ( you can even win an auction without holding a resort for future booking but the best way is to HOLD something you want and bid )

There's another type of auction on sky auction, but it might be more risky.
instead of bidding on a specific resort like Vistana, you bid on these getawayweeks. The difference is that you dno't pay the 'taxes and surcharge...usually $195 a week' with this type...You get a cert number and then you go to the getawayweeks site which is like an RCI clearing house for unused weeks and you get to pick any that are available...I lucked out and got a 2 bedroom just after Thanksgiving...but you aren't guaranteed anything.

Just read the fine print so you know if your bid plus the fees are what you expect.

Good luck!

Woohoo! This is just what I was looking for. :Pinkbounc

Muchas Gracias!

Great info! I'm not sure if I want to do risky. However, I will definately check these out, too.

that is why i did not mention that "particular" auction since it is LAST minute inventory about 30 - 45 days out

they are a good deal but more so for people who can do last minute planning...

RSG at least lets you book a hold before you bid, the other one is the luck of the draw and they do not always get the information out to you promptly, thus you could see something on the getawayweeks but when you call it has been "snapped" up...

maybe after you get your feet wet with RSG you can try the other if they still are offering it....

by the way. both RSG and Home & Away are part of RCI..."clearing" house invnetory.....as well as a couple of others offered through armed forces and government employees...they all see RCI inventory that is "excess" so to speak

When will you be going down there? And how is your search so far thru sky auction? My question is because our trip will be in june, and I'm also checking out sky auction. Is your seach going well???
Any pointers you'd like to share??? :confused3

Also , with the risky way how far out do you need to wait. We are taking another trip in late April or early may to use up the rest of our disney passes. From what I can gather the later you wait the better deal you can get. So should I start looking starting in March for a late April date or can I kind of square something down. We are very flexible on our dates so we could in essence wait for a good deal.

I am mainly going through occassionaly so I get a good feel for the place. As far as when we'll be going, well, SIL turned me down -- not really interested in WDW. Ok then! It's just DH, DD & me! This means that I can plan whatever I want. :teeth: Also, it means that since we don't have a real "problem" staying in whatever hotel we happen to get, I can take some chances and wait til the last minute for a place -- ie 30-60 days before. I still don't know 'when' though I'm thinking next Sept - Dec. This year's hurricane season really turned me off of Sept. We've only been 3 times so far: Oct 2003, Feb 2004, Oct 2004; I don't think I could deal with the crowds of summer!
