what is sky auction? Some sort of time share thing?? do you have to listen to a presentation?

No, no timeshare presentation. You buy weeks in advance.

This will NOT work if you are not flexible in times of travel as they are kind of the "leftover" properties.....older units, off season, etc....

We have done this about 8 or 9 times now but we travel off season and don't mind the older units as long as they are clean and have a pool.

Wow, they sure have gone up in price and resort availability is so limited now! I put in our August dates and nothing much came up unless you want to pay extra to upgrade. No longer the great deal it used to be.

It isn't as good as it used to be, but we will still use it as we can't find anything for that price anywhere else. Even with the increase in price it comes to $35 per night INCLUDING all taxes.

We don't travel in August or any other busy season though, so that is to our advantage. I know peak season has very few availabilities.

I want to reiterate this. Every year, folks post about being disappointed that they can't find a good resort "for their week". If you have firm dates in mind, this is not the program for you. It really works best if you can drop things and travel on relatively short notice.

You can either look for availability, purchase the certificate and then immediately book the week you want, or you can purchase it now and use it later whenever you find a week you want. The availability changes all of the time (and it can be much better last minute).

As Brian said, the certificates are an amazing deal for people that can be more flexible, but don't expect to get the best resort during a specific week during high season because that isn't the type of inventory you are going to find.
