has anyone else got sky +

i got it for crimbo off dh. it has been a nightmare since we had it. im thinking of demanding a refund as the box is intermitantly broken. at one point i spoke to a girl in the cal centre who said to me that there was a known problem with the amstrad boxes. how shocking is that that they are still distributing them. anyway its driving me crazy now. boohoo

we have an engineer coming out tomorrow so im going to hold him hostage until he changes my box.

would love to hear about other peoples experiences with it.

love

lucy

We have never had a problem with our Sky + :) Had it for over a year now.

I wish you luck tomorrow.

I got Sky Plus 13 months ago
The box is great But I would never pay them for installation again I waited a week then he wouldnt walk on a flat roof to the old dish,So I had to wait another 11 days while they sent a special height crew!! Who also refused but cheanged their mind when i want a little mad!! 3 weeks with no TV is not funny! And it all boiled down to when i booked the installation the caller forget to ask me 8 questions!! Wheres the dish located etc!!
Oh and heres the best part of the story The Scumbags stole something out of my house which took me another 3 weeks to retrieve!
It was areal bad experience,Man i hate Sky!!

yes they suck bad

i agree

one of the first engineers who came out wouldnt go on the roof. haha what are you being paid for.

I love my sky+ but when I had it installed, I had the old sky box from downstairs moved up to my bedroom, after a lot of drilling downstairs and upstairs the engineers said "All done misses" and off they went. When I went to bed that night, I could not figure out where the draft was coming from, so I followed the wind trail and realised I could not only feel the wind coming in from the enormous hole they had drilled to thread the cable through, but it was big enough for me to wave to my neighbours across the road.

It took them 2 weeks before they came back to fill the holes in with some sort of silicon jelly stuff.

My box is a PACE make and I only paid £99 for the whole instalation and moving of the original box upstairs. Touch wood no problems so far.

Yep got sky + here, had it since moving here in september and wouldnt live without it,its a god send for recording,as we record alot of programmes..and its much easier than finding tapes etc :teeth: Mine was a treat for DP.
Think our box is a amstrad, but not sure its light grey thats all I can see lol :rotfl:

Not had any problems with it whatsoever TOUCH WOOD

The engineers was urm a tad O.T.T I must admit, the kind that are full of themselves and very flirty, and yuk! put me off my breakfast! but other than that they was fine!

we originally had an amstrad box I think.. they replaced it no problem when it went wrong.

We LOVE sky+ - I love it so much sometimes I forget you cant rewind real life!!!!

We've had Sky+ for about 8 months now and as others have said, we wouldn't be without it. The functionallity is a joy to behold and for once the advertising jargon is true; it really does revolutionize the way you watch TV.

As for problems we've had one where we couldn't delete anything. If we tried the box just "locked up" and needed a full power off / power on reboot. My DW Ruth spoke to Sky who knew of this problem with the Amstrad boxes and talked her though a sequence of wiping the hard disk and starting again. Of course, we lost everything we had recorded. :sad2: Touch wood, since this happend we haven't had any other problems and I certainly wouldn't want to be without a Sky+ box now.

I'm sorry that you're having grief with yours Lucy and hope that you find a satisfactory resolution to the problems.

As DW said we have had Sky+ fpr just over a year now :) We have had no problems with it whatsoever (touch wood ;) )

Our engineer was a very nice chap, a bit full of himself, but easy enough to deal with. I always hang around and assist them when they come to do the install so that I can make sure that they do a half decent job ;)

I think having had it now that we would really miss it if we ever lost it :( It's great being able to set all the recording up off the planner and set the series link option to make sure that you don't miss any episodes of your favourite shows :) The only complaint I have at the moment is that the hard disk in the unit is too small at only 40Gb, DW and I can fill 80% of it up in a week. I am investigating buying a new 240Gb drive and installing it though to give the unit 'More Power' Uh Uh Uh!!! :teeth: The thought of me doing this makes DW very nervous though.

I have had problems with SKY in the past when our previous Sky Digital box died and they wanted to charge me £200 plus the cost of an engineer to come and replace it with a new one. I had a very long winded argument with the call center people who I ended up telling that I wasn't going to pay for it and if they weren't going to fix it then they might as well end my subscription. Once I had done this and hung up I got a call from the Marketing department about 5 minutes later and they were most accomodating in providing me with an engineer and a new box for nothing :teeth: I guess they weren't willing to lose the £40+ pounds per month they we had been paying them over the last 4 years or so ;)

I hope you get yours sorted out Lucy as it is well worth having IMO. Just don't let them get away with providing you with a shoddy service. Demand a new new box as the one they have provided you with is not 'fit for purpose' you haven't had it long so it is well within the warranty period :)

Good Luck, please let us all know how you get on.

Alan.

Ive had Sky+ since January 2004, and I absolutely love it....its made my dvd recorder pretty much redundant since I got it.
Reliability has been very poor for me though. My first box lasted 6 months, and the second box waited until it was 14 days out of warranty till it packed in. After they wanted to charge me for a visit, I said I wanted to cancel my account and they then offered to pay for the out of warranty repair for free, which resulted in a replacement 3rd box, which is now an Amstrad....but for free, i'd rather have a working Amstrad than a faulty Pace.

thanks everyone.

im waiting in now for the engineer. hes coming between 11 and 2 which means 5 to 2

It makes you wonder about these things, who to say they don't program to fail a few days after the end of the warranty? Either that or transmit a signal to disable the box is some way that requires an engineer callout at hugely inflated prices!

Call me a cynic but I work in the IT industry and I know how easy it would be to do such a thing!

i spoke too soon

as soon as i had posted my last message the engineer (who was ok) arrived and fixed my problem. of course blaming the man who install the box.

ill have to see how it goes over the next week. if it brakes again ive had it.

but for now sky + is up and running. O.C here we come (the tv series that is)

Hi Lucy,

Glad it's all fixed now :)

Did you get a new box?? or did he fix the one you had? If he fixed it did he say what the other engineer had done wrong?

Alan.

he fixed the one we had. he said the original bloke hadnt downloaded stuff when he installed. i dont know how true that is or wether it was just a line. we shall see. oh im soooo sceptical.

We have just ordered Sky+ and got talked into Multiroom as well (ooh, Desperate Housewives in bed!!). Cant wait! I hope ours doesnt break down though...the lady on the phone said the boxes are all new models now, so hopefully, no problems!
