Does anyone know of a site to get used snowboards or ski equipment? Started my boys skiing and boarding this year and they Love it! Now comes the expense :scared1:

not sure where you are but Building 19's usually have some stuff or try craigslist near the mountain. How old are the boys ?

You can also lease equipment for the season. I got my daughters skis for $75 for the season from a local ski shop. She moves up a size every year, so this is the best deal for us.

Two ways we do it...

One, in March, we go to ski shops and by clearance. We can usually get about 70% off, but the selection is often poor, particularly for kids.

Second, a lot of people we know (we haven't yet) go to ski swaps - usually held in October. Basically, a huge garage sale for people buying and selling old equipment.

I wouldn't buy anything over the internet. Shipping costs will eat into savings unless you find it local (Craigslist) and you'll want to look at it. Also remember that you'll need to have bindings fitted, so there will be that expense in anything you buy used (or frankly, new, although some places through in the labor when you buy new).

We have done well on Ebay. Trusnow.com evo.com. And I got a great deal on snowboard boots at 6pm.com . Do you have a play again sports by you?

REI has boards on clearance. I personally would be careful with used boards alot of kids do the parks and beat the snot out of them.

Cheaper is not always best found that out with a pair of bindings.

Be sure you know what you want, size of board, type of camber etc...

It can seem overwhelming but its not undo able.

What are the ages of your kids? How soon will they grow out f their board?

I have 3 girls that board so I have been able to pass them down the line as they grow. If you plan on doing this buy decent boards that will hold up. We have Burton they are a little more but I know the brand and am comfortable with the quality beside they are "cool" to the kids.

As far as renting boards most really suck and can be cumbersome and not make it an enoyable ride. We did rent one year then bought "cheap" risignpol boards and it was a night and day difference. Their Burton boards blew the cheap ones out of the water.

Sports authority also has clearance going on.

Know before you buy so you don't get talked into something you don't need.

Sorry can't help with skis at all.

Ski swaps near a resort can be a great place to get amazing values. Ski companies give out lots of "demonstrator" equipment to instructors, ski patrol members, and ski area exs to get their new stuff out an on the mountain. Most of those folks have equipment that they prefer so they may ski on that stuff a couple of times to meet the terms of the contract then they sell it off at the resorts preseason swap for a fraction of what it would cost new.
