We have two girls (6 & 8) and will be in WDW this Aug and are deciding where to eat on our first night in the MK? Which would you choose between these two restaurants and why?

My girls are 12 and 6 and after looking at the menus I went with LTT. The menu from Skipper Canteen does not look good to either of them. Maybe check out the menus and go from there.

I would go with Skipper Canteen. We had to decide between a lunch at LTT and dinner at SC for our most recent trip and because of menu changes I reluctantly went with SC. I was very hesitant, but it turned out to be our best meal of the trip. We had a fabulous server, the food was really good, the decor was really neat with lots to look at and the Jungle Cruise theme/jokes were lots of fun.

I am not fond of either restaurant. IMHO, the menu choices at Skipper's Canteen is very limited especially if you are not into spicy, exotic foods. The décor and wait staff are excellent, just give me some good ole southern comfort food. Have not eaten at Liberty Tree in ages. Just recall everything being kind of bland and nothing stood out.

FWIW, the food we had at Skippers Canteen was not spicy and really was not all that exotic IMO. It may depend on what you order though. I'm not a very adventurous eater and our meals were simple enough but still had enough of a difference to be a welcome break from usual American standards found throughout the park. The menu has a good variety and kids still have the option of simple mac and cheese, grilled chicken, etc.

I have not tried Skippers but the menu does not entice me. My friend and her friend went recently and ended up just getting beer and dessert. LOL They could not find anything good on their menu. I love LTT. We eat there ever single trip....until LIKE yesterday I was NOT going to eat there in June because they changed the menu last fall. HOWEVER...they added back some of their menu items. I am HOPING that all you care to eat meal LEAVES the menu too. I loved the Pilgrim's feast meal and would get that 9/10 times. Now they have this 35 buck meal that I have not heard good things about. It includes the turkey/stuffing along with some other items. In my opinion not worth the price. I did add a lunch adr there for June since they made the changes.

I personally prefer Skipper Canteen to LTT. It's certainly not for everybody, but the food isn't quite as exotic as the menu makes it sound. The falafel appetizer at Skipper Canteen is truly remarkable. The fried chicken is good. It's different than traditional southern fried chicken, so if you're a purist (which I respect), then it might not be for you. The pork and lamb at Skipper Canteen are also good. Again, I don't think the food is as adventurous as the menu tries to make it look.

The only real answer is to look at the menus and see which one your kids will eat, o rif they like both menus. Haven eaten at both, Skipper Canteen is much more fun if you enjoy the bad Jungle Cruise jokes. Our kids were never picky eaters, so we were fortunate that we could eat where we wanted and they would always find something they liked.

When Skipper Canteen was new, I was among many who read the menu online and thought it didn't look good. Out of curiosity, plus as a Jungle Cruise fan, I tried it anyway. It immediately became my new favorite Magic Kingdom restaurant, and now I've been there a few times already. There are several things on the menu that I don't consider too far out. As for the jokes, in my experience this has been only during arrival and as you are seated, and then it seems to stop. YMMV.

Look at the menus and if you think to yourself I'm not sure my family would like it then don't go. Based on the menu I was hesitant of Skippers.... but it was new and I wanted to say I was one of the first to try it. It was a bad choice for us. We would not go back.

For our family, we would absolutely choose Skipper Canteen. There are many more items on that menu that would appeal to the whole family.

We like both, but given that you said dinner I would definitely go with Skippers Canteen. I'm not a fan of the AYCTE options, nor Thanksgiving dinner on any day other than the 4th Thursday of November, so LT dinner would be out (but lunch is great). We've been to skippers a few times now and really enjoy it. The jungle cruise humor is a ton of fun and they have some really great apps and entrees.

I agree with Skipper Canteen for dinner over LTT. Look at the menu and make sure you don't skip the apps... I had a single app for lunch along with dessert but could make a couple of apps into dinner. My picky kid had the mac and cheese, which is classic mac and cheese, nothing scary at all, and they subbed fries for the brcccoli that was supposed to come with it :sad2: kid will not eat veggies yet, but we are working on it. His first goal is raw red pepper :teeth:

I agree the flavors were not "spicy" or even really that exotic, especially on the app menu. Shu mai are pretty basic, and the Cachapas were DELICIOUS and no more exotic than you'd find at a mainstream mexican restaurant, however probably much better prepared. The falafel is on my list too and that is a pretty accessible app too. They also have added steak back to the kid menu options (though it is probably a tiny portion given that it is on the mickey check menu). If broccoli and potatoes don't appeal, they can and will sub fries.

Enjoy. Totally agree with @kastoney about thanksgiving dinner. It's the reason garden grill dinner doesn't appeal to me either. So many other wonderful things to eat, too!

My 11yo DGD absolutely loved the feast platter meal we got at Liberty Tree Tavern. The food at Skipper's just didn't interest her.
