Skipper Canteen ADR Watch

I also found the link this morning and tried calling Disney to make a reservation. No pixie dust for me either this morning!

We are currently waiting to have lunch at the restaurant now. Not that many people here surprisingly. They are not taking reservations for walk up guests at this time and they said online reservations will be at least another few weeks most likely but that could change.

The page is now live on the Disney site, but still can't make reservations (all dates are greyed out)

Does any one know if they are accepting the dining plan? I would assume they do, but the website currently says it's not accepted.

I spoke to a cast member who said it wasn't in the system yet, but it should be very soon. She said anywhere from "next few hours" to "any day now". Best she could do....

So here I am with my browser open hitting refresh ...

From DIS Unplugged facebook page "Skipper Canteen is now open at the Magic Kingdom. Some info - this will be the first restaurant on property to NOT accept ADR's - they are going to test out accepting walk-up only. 2nd - they will NOT be accepting Tables in Wonderland here. We'll have a full review up on the site later tonight."

We won't be going if this is true. I like having my plans ahead, and WILL NOT waste time in line for a restaurant or checking same-day for a reservation. Probably in the minority, but there it is!! One less thing I have to "keep checking DPB!!" for. :)

But... the site has the reservation widget waiting info *and* the cast member told me this morning they were just waiting for availability information...

It is strange. I notice that the page says that dining plans are not accepted.

Between the site stating that they accept reservations and the reservations widgit on there, I'm betting the "no ADR" policy will only apply through the holidays

Yeah, I'm wondering if the "No ADR" is taken out of context. Like, there are no ADRs for now.

Also, it's not the first, maybe the first "disney operated". Because Big River Grille on the boardwalk does not take ADRs.

On top of that, if you look at BRG on the Disney Dining site, you will see there is not ADR widget, but on the skipper canteen page, there IS.

Not sure what this all means, but I'm not giving up hope.

That being said, I don't know that I *like* having reservations booked so far in advance, BUT we travel with a group of 18 so it's either that, or we're stuck if we don't get in there. So yeah, if we can't make an ADR we'll be skipping it.

Hmm, will certainly hinder people's plans if they don't accept ADR's...especially since you are supposed to give 24 hours notice for a cancellation. I don't like going into any day at WDW without an ADR already lined up. That's a bummer about TiW too if the info is correct :(

Hope this is not a sign of what is to come from Disney....

I have to say over the past few years I have not been too impressed with some decisions from the CEO down to Marketing, but this one takes the cake....From the multiple delays in opening to the non-marketing - secret menu. It would appear everything is day to day...all the way down to the tin cups (what you ran out of cups after four days of operation?). I half way expect this to be Disney's "lemonade stand" for the busy time, if they wouldn't have pumped so much into decor.

Oh well, certainly a lot of missed opportunity to bring back the magic.

By the way, I hope whoever was the lead on this doesn't take on Star Wars Land. Can you imagine a who knows when opening with a few hundred light sabers...

"Yeah put a handful of lightsabers in there, it's not like this franchise is very popular anyway. Should be fine."

From Disney Food Blog email just now (bold/underline is mine)...

"A few details for YOUR visit to the Skipper Canteen: though the restaurant is officially open, it has not yet been announced when Advance Dining Reservations will be accepted (at the time of this writing, it seems it will remain a walk-up only location at least through the year’s end, but that is subject to change). We can, however, confirm that the Disney Dining Plan is accepted, as is the Tables in Wonderland discount program. The menu for lunch and dinner is currently the same, but that could change at any time."

My only beef with Disney recently is the SLOW TRICKLE OF INFORMATION. They can and should do whatever they think is best for business. But when they announce something, they should include more details.

An initial "hey expect a new skipper themed restaurant in MK in the fall/winter" is fine at first, way far out. When it gets within that 180 day window -- IN WHICH THEY SUGGEST GUESTS MAKE THEIR PLANS -- they should be ready to release more info: when will it open, when will it accept ADRs at minimum.

At any one time, with multiple Disney trips coming up, I'm "staying tuned to the DPB" WAY TOO MUCH!!! Not a reasonable way to conduct business when you expect your customers to plan 6 mos (7 mos / 11 mos for DVC!!) out.

End speech. ;)
