I'm not a WDW newbie, promise! But I am taking my first summer trip and my first with extended family. Going 6/24-6/29 with me, DS4, grandma 60, niece 12 & step nephew 13. First trip for niece & nephew and 5th for grandma. Our trip is before Toy Story Land so my question is, skip HS for 2 days at MK? I love HS but our trip last week found us only spending part of the day at HS. Would our summer trip with no park hoppers be better served skipping HS? I want to make niece and nephew's trip the best ever as it's a first time!

Unless you're planning on getting park hoppers, I would definitely recommend skipping HS. (Heck, even with the PH I'm not sure if it's worth it.) I love HS, too, but it's an awkward time to visit, since all the old stuff has closed but none of the new stuff has opened yet.

Even if you were there for Toy Story, it still probably wouldn't be worth going becuase of the inevitable lines. Pandora was crazy at its opening last year.

I agree, I would skip it. The last few times we went we only spent a half day there.

I agree. A 12 and 13 year may like HS better. My girls love it there. 10,14. We are there all day. But we do have a 5 year old so we do everything.

If you don’t have park hoppers I wouldn’t go to HS. The 4 rides aren’t worth the park ticket.

I think 12 & 13 years olds will enjoy HS. My DS12 loves ToT, RNRC, and Star Tours. He also loves the Star Wars stuff....launch bay, March of the First Order, Fireworks, etc. And, Sci Fi would also be a very cool dining experience for first timers!

Another vote for ask the kids. It does take at least 2 days to get a lot of Magic Kingdom done but Hollywood is my favorite park and if your younger ones are into Star Wars they may want to go there. I see many people say Hollywood is a half day park but I manage to keep myself occupied for 2 full days there each trip.

Absolutely skip for 2 days at MK. Especially since you're dealing with summer crowds.

As much as the older kids would enjoy HS I think if this is their first visit there is so much to see at MK that 2 days there is almost a must.

I also agree to skip HS. As much as I love Studios, they will have a great time at the other parks.

I agree with you based on our extended families experience. Our 12 year old granddaughter LOVED Rock n Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. I think Rock n Roller coaster was her absolute favorite ride at WDW (AK Pandora was not open during yet during our trip in 2017). She rode them multiple times. She also loved the Beauty and the Beast show and Toy Story Mania. Just me but I would not skip HS, we always do rope drop and with fast passes we can do MK in one very long day!

I'd be torn. I can easily spend a full day at the Studios and find plenty to do, but I also really like all the shows there. But, I also feel like one day isn't enough time at MK. You know your group best.

RnR and ToT are in my top 5 favorite rides, so I never skip them. I also enjoy Star Tours as well. HS is a nice park to go to when you need something low key and chill.

Tough choice. I agree that a full day at DHS is not currently needed, but with pre-teen/teen kids there is a lot for them of interest still. RnRC and ToT are two of the better attractions in all of WDW. Plus there is all the Star Wars stuff is a big draw as well. And for the younger child there are a few shows there that are very good for that age. Although 2 days at MK would be great and you could definitely fill that time up easily with attractions there, I think I would opt for DHS and then enjoy a bit of pool/down time if you do end up finishing up at DHS with time left in your day.

A 12yo and 13yo will probably find ToT and RR to be two of the funnest rides at WDW, so it might be a shame for them to miss those. I think they will obviously have fun at MK as well, but two days for them there is probably going to be a lot more than they need, assuming you FP the majors.

It would almost be a crime to not let a 13yo boy ride RnR and ToT.

But I hated DHS with just a 4yo.

Would a split day work for your group? Like Grandma take the older ones to DHS (and she takes the chicken exits on the bigger rides) while you take your 4yo to MK?
