Skip checkin means no MB?

Just did my online check in for Coronado Springs in March and it said that declining new magic bands may allow me to skip the front desk. Out last two trips we were able to go straight to our room and we got bands for both trips. Is this new? IMG_1747.PNG

I believe this would be applicable only if you already have Magic Bands from a previous trip that you plan to use again for this trip.

There's still plenty of time to customize band and have them shipped so this shouldn't be an issue.

OP: seems the text is saying skipping front desk is only possible IF you decline MB? I think the text is just unfortunately worded. (Skipping the front desk is possible whether or not you decline MBs.) HTH.

Correct. The message is to remind you that if you decline a new MB(s) for this stay, you need to remember to bring an active MB(s) with you to have the possibility of bypassing the Front Desk and going directly to your room.

It is in context with the step the OP is at in the web app.

Question, OP: Are you from a country outside the US?

If so, you have to go to the desk for Magic Bands. They cannot ship Magic Bands. If you have no Magic Bands, you cannot go straight to the room even if you opt out, because... no way to get into the room.

Good question, and it was my first thought as well. But...
Sounds like OP is from the USA - says that on previous trips got the MB's and headed straight to the room.

It's always been an option. You can decide to use the bands you recieved from a previous trip, or order new ones. If you decide to use the ones you have, they will already be set up for you and you can go straight to your room. Otherwise, they will send you the new ones, and you will have to visit the Front Desk at some point to set them up. In my experience, this is only to establish the pin code for purchase verifications. You should still be able to go straight to your room upon arrival with your new bands.

Thanks everyone! We are in NC and got APs in Oct. This will be our 3rd trip with them but our first using an AP discounted room. Though we have many magic bands we wanted to check out the new 2.0 bands. When I got to that part of online check in I did think it meant I had to decline bands in order to skip the front desk - like they are trying to convince me to decline. Hopefully the wording is just strange and we will still get that lovely text message sending us straight to our room. That has been wonderful on our previous 2 trips.

So if this is our first time ever getting Magic Bands, we will need to go to the front desk for check in?

If you will be using the bands for purchases and/or dining plan, yes. If not, there should be no need. Call to confirm.

Just to add to that:
You can link credit card info and setup your Magic Band pin# online before you arrive as well. Not necessarily required to do so at front desk.

If your Magic Bands are being shipped to your home for you to take with you to Disney and you do "online check in" you do not need to go to the front desk. You should receive a text message with your room#. Of course, if you do not receive the text message with room# then it's probably because your too early and your room isn't ready yet in which case you can go to the front desk to see when it will be ready.

Yep. I got that text for our online checkin for our 12/10 stay. I think they are saying that you might get the text of you decline just like if you order.

So if this is our first time ever getting Magic Bands, we will need to go to the front desk for check in?

Depends. If you get the room ready text then don't stop in. If not then do. There's no absolute.

There's no "should" involved. I've never gotten the room ready text despite always doing online checkin. Before, they didn't require a cc during the process and I didn't always give one so i wondered if that was the reason. This time I gave one for both checkins (because it's required now), but still, nothin'.

One has nothing to do with the other.

You can get MB either way,
You may be able to skip the lobby check in either way.

What time did you arrive at your resort? As I stated in the part of my post that wasn't quoted, if you arrive at your resort early then it is entirely possible your room won't be ready yet. In which case you will not get the text. Every time we have stayed at a Disney resort in recent years, including this December, we have recieved the room-ready text along with second text that contains a map of resort. We do usually arrive in the early afternoon hours so perhaps that is why we have had success with this.

Disney most certainly prefers to use the text message method. It reduces lines at check-in desks which results in happier guests, fewer CMs needed and therefore lower operating expenses.

I just realized we always get our text message while aboard Magical Express from airport. I'm wondering if scanning Magic Band at airport when boarding Magical Express is the trigger that tells their system to send out texts. IDK

I don't think that's it. Last trip, DH and I flew into Sanford, so no ME. I had a room ready text pop up when I turned my phone on upon landing.

Only if you don't get a room ready text, have a last minute change to make for example. It is not a 100% guarantee thing that you will get a text and be able to bypass the Front Desk. Also if you are not from the USA, you will have to stop at the Front Desk to pick-up your resort Magic Bands for example if you don't already have a Magic Band from a previous trip.

Nope, no need to stop if as indicated in the image in the original post at the top of the tread. See the items listed on the Big Green Check Mark. Using the MDE via the app or via the web, you can link a CC for charges, set a Pin (or reset one), add limited room location requests and provide your reservation address for example.

The goal is to allow you the option where possible to "maybe" bypass a stop at the Front Desk.

Our two trips - one at Caribbean Beach and one at All Star Sports - I notated on our online checkin we expected to arrive at noon. We drive in and both times we got the text between 11 and 11:30. Hoping for the same good luck in March!
