On the 8/31 Alaskan sailing this year and trying to finalize my excursion choices. I have everything set with the exception of Skagway. We have the "Best of Skagway" excursion booked through DCL, but not sure if we should keep it or do something private.

I found a company - Frontier Excursions - that offers private, customized tours that would only be about $50 more for our party of three than the DCL option.

We are 3 adults, not looking for anything super active (ie hiking), love nature and animals, interested in gold panning. Can anyone add any feedback on the DCL excursion or if anyone has used Frontier before.

We did a similar DCL excursion that went up via motorcoach and back via train. I liked that a lot. Our stop was at a tourist spot in between the bus and train. Lunch, gold panning, sled dogs. The train goes up and down the exact same set of tracks, so going up via bus was nice, because we had different scenery. We saw more wildlife from the bus: mountain goats, sheep, porcupine, bear. Actually, we did not see any wildlife from the train.

I think your DCL excursion looks great. Frontier's excursions might be great as well.

If you want to see pictures of our tour, you can go to a popular social media site that I'm not allowed to mention. Put in "Our Travels on Disney Cruise Line." Then go to photos--> albums-->Alaska from Seattle.
