Can anyone tell me if either Walmart or Michaels sell the Sizzix machine or sidekick and how much they are? We will be travelling to Florida from the UK in August and wondered if it would be better to buy them here or there. Are there any other craft/scrapbooking shops in the Orlando area?
Thanks

Our WalMart does not sell the Sizzix products. Michaels does, though. :) The retail price for the original is $79.99 US in our stores - even though the Sizzix site says it's $69.99. The Sidekick is listed as $49.99 US retail. However, no one here pays those prices. We usually either get the original on sale for about $40 or use a 40% off coupon that they have in the Sunday paper (in their sale flyer). The Sidekick is usually about $35 on sale. I can't get a coupon at our store - they have a separate sale paper printed to give out in the store without the coupons.

I don't know anything about scrapping stores in the Orlando area. I'm sure someone else does though.

I think it is 89.99 at my Mike's. :earseek:

I got my regular sizzix at AC Moore last year for $39.99. It was during a great sale week. So if you have time to wait, wait it out and see if it goes on sale....or there is always the 40% off coupon for mikes!

I'm guessing that Michaels averages at least one coupon per month - usually 2. How long will you be in Orlando?

Thanks everyone. Deb, we are in Orlando for two weeks so I may be lucky and get a coupon!

I would also consider the weight!...the Sizzix is soooo heavy!! I don't know if you are limited as to how much weight you can take home or not.

I posted a few sites of store a while back...I'll see if I can find it.

Have a great time on your trip!!!

i really really really agree with holycow! i cant believe how heavy that thing is!! i have trouble moving mine even the slightest bit!!

i think you might do better to find a sale online and have it shipped right to you

I knew there was something I forgot to mention! The weight of the large one has to be a concern. I've never weighed the thing & the Sizzix site doesn't mention it (I'm sure that's on purpose!) and their shipping is based on cost not weight.

I'm guessing it's definitely more than 5 lbs - maybe 10? I'm thinking about picking up a bag of sugar, which is 5 lbs. I can do that easily with one hand. I have trouble even lifting the Sizzix machine slightly to shift it with one hand! The Sidekick is advertised as being only 2 lbs.

I took my Sizzix, the converter, and a couple sets of dies to a crop on Saturday. Packed them in a separate tote and it was fine to heft in and out of the van solo - but no way with it on top of the crop n go Navigator. I'd guess the machine itself is about 10 pounds.

Thanks everyone. The weight of the sizzix may be a problem - I think our weight allowance is 40 KG each, which sounds alot but I want to buy lots of other scrapbooking stuff too! I may have to leave some of DH's clothes behind! :rotfl:

At first glance I loved that idea. However, I'd leave some of my less favorite tiems, so that I could shop when I returned home! ;)

Latte Lover,

Check to see if the weight limit you have is per PERSON or per BAG. My son is traveling to Brazil this summer with a group from school. I was a little surprised when the information came home that they were limited to ONE bag with a max weight of 70 lbs. as we had that weight limit per BAG with a two bag per person limit when we traveled not too long ago. In his case, they are limiting each traveler to 1 bag to accomodate all of the group equipment that has to go with them (they will be performing while in Brazil).

If you are allowed 2 bags with the 40 KG per person weight you might want to consider packing a duffel inside a more sturdy case on the way down. On the way back pack the duffel full of the clothes heading for the laundry room and the scrapbooking things can go into the case with more protection.

If weight is an issue I would DEFINATELY go with a sidekick...
and then you can get an alpha set or two also!!!!

At this (slower) time of year, we've been running coupons about every other week, except for the period right before Mother's Day, during which there were 3 weeks in a row w/ coupons. AFAIK, that pattern'll continue for a while; I'm not sure exactly when the "busy" season kicks in again w/ sales & coupons running every week. Can't wait, though, 'cause that 40% coupon darn sure beats the employee discount!! :teeth:
