Size?

If they were tucked away people wouldn't notice them and wouldn't think to try them... it would be a lot more humiliating to get to the ride, sit down and be pulled off.

I agree! I was down there about a month and half after FJ first opened, (back before they changed the restraints on the outside seats), I had fallen in love with the ride. I made a beeline there every morning and rode it over and over, using the single rider line. The CMs had to give a little push to help me get the third click they required back then, but I did fit and was comfortable in the seat. About the fourth day I was there I had already ridden it several times in a row that morning, when I got a CM who refused to help anyone get that evasive third click. He said that if we couldn't get the third click we had to get off. Both me and the guy right next to me had to exit the ride. I was soooo embarrassed, when he told me I had to exit the ride. I quickly told him I had just ridden it 4 or 5 times in a row and this was already my sixth time on it that morning and the CMs always just gave a little push to get the third click. He rather rudely informed me, that they were not allowed to do that and that it would eventually mess up the harness, if they did so. I had to walk the fat walk of shame and was sooo mad. But, knowing that I had made it on all those other times, just made me madder. I waited until that afternoon and went through the single rider line again. That time there was a different CM, who didn't even question me. He just gave the tiny push I needed to get that third click and away I flew. For the rest of the week, I rode it mutliple times every morning and never again had a problem with any CM giving that little push to get the third click. Shortly after that trip, Universal changed something on the ride and made those outside seats easier for fluffy people to use. Now I have no problem getting the green light all by myself, but I still remember the humiliation of being thrown off the ride that day. What was more humiliating is the fact that I had just gotten off of it just a few minutes before and had been riding it multiple times every day for several days prior, so knew I fit. If I hadn't, I would not have had the nerve to try again and would have missed a great ride.:sad1::mad::headache:

Same thing happened to my partner. We stayed the week leading up to opening day. We rode multiple times leading up to the actual opening day. The last time we rode she was given the all clear from the inside test seats of shame (as she was every time) but then we got on the ride and the girl working the ride would not give that little push to get the third click. We exited the ride. I was so mad. I complained to the customer service at the front of the park and they gave us both a free ticket that never expires. We still haven't used them.

I don't normally post on these boards, but threads like this do hit close to home. My husband (then bf) & I were both bigger people on our first trip to Disney & Universal in 2010. I was a size 20 & he was over 300lbs. I was nervous about rides, especially Forbidden Journey. I did a lot of research... as someone else posted, check WDW At Large on Allears. There are testimonials from other people of size about all rides at both theme parks. Anyways, we had no problem riding FJ. We both tried out the test seats. It's totally better to volunteer to try them rather than a staff member approaching you. Just do it. Nobody is watching you or judging you and if they are, don't worry about them. You'll never see them again and you have every right to make sure you'll be comfortable. They did have modified seats on this ride (the 2 outer seats). My husband fit and I even found the seat to be a little too large for me. I can't comment on other thrill rides like the Hulk or Rip Ride Rockit because I'm too wimpy to ride those, but we rode everything else without a problem. Try test seats, don't be embarrassed, and enjoy yourself!

The CMs had to give a little push to help me get the third click they required back then, :

OH!! Is the 3 click requirement a thing of the past? Interesting.

I doubt anyone is paying attention to anyone trying out those seats! I know I don't. Another reason to try is sometimes it is not about size or weight - but proportion and / or where you carry your weight. We all hold it in different places!!!

Disclosure: I am speaking from the 3 click days...

It's still three clicks, but the addition of the modified seats has made it easier for many to get those three clicks comfortably.
