As I am waiting to become a new DVC member (waiting for ROFR to clear) at BWV, my DW and I were curious about the size of the rooms at all the resorts. From reading many posts, it sounds like OKW has the biggest rooms, but I have heard from others that they are all pretty much the same.

Does anyone know what the square footage is of all the different room types at the different resorts?

We have only been to WDW once (stayed offsite) and have never seen the DVC resorts (other than in the brochure), so we are looking for some guidance.

Here is a list I put together form posts on this board.

OKW
Stu 390 1 BR 1005 2 BR 1410 GV 2375
HH
Stu 455 1 BR 856 2 BR 1311 GV 2362
BW
Stu 359 1 BR 712 2 BR 1071 GV 2142
Vero
Stu: 375 1 BR 880 2 BR 1265 GV 2125
VWL
Stu 356 1 BR 727 2 BR 1083
BCV

Its not the size that matters, its the ability to park in front of your unit, the peace and tranquility, the sheer beauty of the resort, the low dues and point requirements that make OKW the best DVC resort. The fact that a one bedroom at OKW is almost the same saize as a two bedroom at the other resorts is just gravy.

Richyams,

This is something I have also heard about OKW(and read about here), which is one of the reasons that I wanted to find a resale there. The problem is that DW wants to be where the action is, and we have been told that BWV meets that requirement. The way I look at it, we have 3 kids, no matter where we are, there is always action!!!

Needless to say, I lost the argument, and hopefully we will get a ressie at BWV for April 04 when our deal closes.

Besides the things you mentioned about OKW, do the other resorts have big differences? And is quality really the same no matter where you go?

All the resorts will have Disney level quality. However, the 'feel' of the resorts is quite different. To me the biggest difference between OKW and the other on-site DVC resorts is that OKW has the look/feel of a resort, condominium style. The others have the look/feel of a hotel, or an apartment. At OKW your entrance is from the outside porch/patio. At the others your entrance is off a hotel type hallway.

As Rich says, parking is totally different. Outside your unit at OKW, and off in a parking lot somewhere away from your room for the other resorts.

OKW is laid back, with 4 pools (not fancy), lots of outdoor space with great views from your unit (golf course or waterway or lake).

But, not much action there. Boardwalk is an action area, accessible by both BWV and BCV. VWL is not really an action area, but does have proximity to the MK if that's important.

All the resorts have their own theming which may be important to you. VWL probably has some of the best theming and many prefer it for that reason.

This is one of the reasons DVC is so great. No matter what your tastes are, there's something for everyone. The best is that you can use your points to stay at any of the resorts, subject to the 7-month window. If you'll be going during busy times and will need the 11-month window then be sure to make your selection based on your type or resort preferences.

The reasons Richy gives are exactly why I have no interest in OKW. I want to be able to walk to the parks. I want to park my car and never move it--and if I do decide to use it, just call the valet and have it waiting when I get out front. The size of the room doesn't really matter much--we're only three people, and sometimes only two!

So I don't think anyone can universally proclaim any DVC resort as the best. Perhaps it's the best for your particular wants and needs, but it's likely not for others.

Other than HH, OKW is bottom on my list. I'd probably use points to get a room at one of the non-DVC resorts before I'd stay there.

ducklite,

I think you make some good points, which is part of the reason I gave in and went with BWV. Room size can be important to us. Recently we stayed in a regular room and with 5 people (although 2 of them are real small) it gets crowded really fast.

Question for you: on the hotel class, what is concierge? Are they suites, or just better views?

Caskbill,

Thanks for the info and especially thank you for your DVC Planning Program. Pretty slick stuff!!!

Well said. OKW is at the bottom of our list as well because it is so removed relying on bus transportation. We prefer the hotel/resort atmosphere and close proximity over a condominium appearance/feel. A drive/visit through OKW told us it was not for us as a first choice. If OKW were the only resort offered for DVC, we probably wouldn't have joined. Of course, we also wouldn't have joined if there wasn't a beach option, so that we didn't visit WDW every year. Everyone has thier own preferences. It's nice to have choices.

Ditto to ducklite & CaptainMidnight's posts, I agree 100%+, except for using pts to stay at a non DVC resort vs OKW. If OKW is the only resort available I just change my trip dates to a time when I can get any other WDW DVC resort other than OKW.

Very well said. My favorite is OKW because it suits what we like on vacation. We use the car constantly, so the parking in front of the building is perfect for us. We like quiet, so, OKW fits that bill.
No one place is better than another in terms of quality. They are all lovely. What is wonderful is that there are enough choices.
What is best for Richy may not be best for everyone. Richy loves OKW, I sure cannot blame him, but I will not trash the rest because I like it best.....FOR ME.

Gail,
Your posts are always so level headed and truthful and you just state the facts. Your posts are always such a breath of fresh air on these boards, something many of us (myself included) could take a lesson from.

Neither. Concierge rooms include concerge service. That is individual pre-planning help (they make your PS's for you and offer help with things such as flowers or gift baskets in teh room. They offer a private ounge where you can relax and meet other guests. They offer refreshments in teh lounge including continental breakfast, snacks and drinks, bottled water, coffee, tea, soda, appetizers and desserts.

The rooms are often a little larger and include upgraded toiletries and bathrobes.

Some resorts offer concierge only perks such as the Sunrise Safari at the AKL.

We have found that BWV satisifes all our moods on vacation. We always request a room around the quiet pool area and have found it very peaceful when we want to be out of the action. But when we feel like taking in the faster paced action we can go down to the boardwalk and have a blast.

I agree. I am always surprised when I read posts about BWV being noisy or hectic. I have stayed all over BWV/BWI and have never been disturbed by noise or excessive crowds including in boardwalk view villas and in the villas not on the boardwalk or facing the main pool it is super quiet and peaceful.

DeeP,
What a sweet thing to say, thank you!!! However, considering the "trouble" I have been in the last couple of days with a certain poster, I would not say I am all that level headed. :) I have been bad.

I think DeeP meant me, Gail was just a typo.

Gail and fresh air don't seem to fit to well. Gail is our resident expert on smoking rooms at OKW. LOL. At any rate OKW is for me. I like the quite of the rooms when you try to sleep. I like Gail use my car to go everywhere so parking just a few steps away is for me.
