Six Flags and cockroaches

Just saw on MSNBC Six Flags has a new promotion: "Eat a cockroach, skip the line". I'm not kidding. I thought I heard Six Flags was attempting to follow more of the Disney way of running their theme parks? Unreal. You can't make it up.

PETA is upset about this:

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants Six Flags Great America to scrap its Halloween-themed cockroach-eating promotion.

A spokeswoman for the animal rights organization says the contest at the amusement park's FrightFest is "gratuitously cruel."

The park in Gurnee, Ill., is joining other Six Flags parks in offering unlimited line-jumping privileges to anyone who eats a live Madagascar hissing cockroach. The bugs are up to three inches long.

The contest begins next month.

Amusement park officials are defending their menu choice. Great America spokesman Jim Taylor says the bugs are nutritious, high in protein and fat free.

I'd not do this just for front of line but I'd probably do it to torque off PETA! :lmao: :rotfl2: ;)

They are obviously copying Disney's planned "Be Michael Eisner for a Day" promotion. The rat finks.

 :rotfl: LOL!! Me too -- they are cockroaches, for crying out loud!! To me, it seems totally gross, but I do NOT feel bad for the cockroaches!! Give me a break!!

Do you have to swallow it whole?

Once inside does it bite back?

News item from several years ago. Man had eaten sushi and got an excruciating tummyache. He went to the emergency room and they actually operated on him and found nothing. Then after a little while someone saw a small red worm inching out from under the bandage.

Back to the cockroach, would PETA prefer that it be dipped in boiling water first like a lobster?

Seems like there'd be a lot of paperwork to fill out before you even get to the bug. Sounds like an insurance nightmare to me...

While in six flags last weekend my dad actually witnesed two people eat a cockroach for the new ride El Toro. He said it was about 2 inches long. The line was only about 15 minutes long. It may not be Disney but for any thrill seeker or person looking for scary people going to six flags is fun but either place I would never eat a coakroach no matter the line.

Wow, this sort of proves to me that PETA is a bit off the wall....
A BIT!! Yikes, these folks need to get a new cause. Save the freakin' roach!? :sad2:

I like this part:

The park spokesperson equates eating these roaches to eating shrimp or oysters. Health officials counter by saying the federal government regulates shrimp and oysters, and as of yet, there is no federal regulation on eating roaches.

:lmao:

I clicked on this thread, thinking that it was going to be on state of things in the food service and restrooms areas offered at Great America. :confused3

No way would I do this for Great America tickets, now offer me a 5-day stay at the Grand Floridian, and I'll eat those cockroaches in a pink tutu, while riding backwards on a burro.
