Site for Music Sharing?

I went to a school internet safety meeting last night. They brought up a site called Limewire. They said it's bad and loaded with viruses. We plan to stay away from this site.

Are there any downloadable music sites that are safe. I'm really out of the loop on this. I haven't done any of this since the days of Napster. I would be will to join a pay site. Hopefully, it's not that expensive.
