If there's anybody out there who is considering getting one of these radios, let me give you a few reasons why I think it is WELL worth the money.
We picked one up last month because we have been doing a ton of traveling during the past few months (over 15 thousand miles), and I thought it might be worth it to not have to keep searching for radio stations every 20 minutes or so.
What I got was so much better than what I was expecting.
First of all, there seem to be a lot of different models that offer different features. We got the cheapest one they had (only 49 dollars), but add to that the cost of a kit to connect it directly to your car antenna, and the cost of installation (unless you have someone who is handy at connecting car audio stuff). We ended up paying about 175 all together.
I was amazed at just how many different stations that you get. Even though I'm not a big fan of many of the music stations, the fact is that they give you a ton of choices for music.
One of the main reasons I did get it was for sports. I knew I would be traveling to a lot of churches on Sundays, and that I would be missing many, if not most of the football games. I wanted to be able to at least keep up with the scores while we were driving. What you get, is every single game played (most of them are offered on two different stations, so you can actually get your home town's team broadcast on it's local station - for example I get the Pats on WEEI from Boston). You also get the NFL Network station, that not only gives you running commentary all day long of the games being played, but even better, a running update of all the scores on the bottom half of the radio screen. It's just like watching the NFL network, and seeing the scores running across the bottom of the screen. You also get all the NBA games (again you can listen to your local broadcast), and an NBA station that also runs the scores. I'm not a racing fan, but you also get all the racing coverage you could possibly want.

If you like talk radio, you get non-stop talk radio from both sides of the spectrum, as well as others like Howard Stern (whom I'm not a fan of), Martha Stewart, and others as well.

They offer some great Comedy stations from clean family comedians (only occasionally throwing in an off-colored comment), from somewhat clean comedy (We find ourselves listening to this with our finger on the button ready to change the channel whenever they start getting bad, but many of the comedians will stay pretty clean on this station as well - like Jeff Foxworth), to I guess a much racier comedy station.

You also can get some great weather stations that help while you travel.
There are many more stations included as well from Broadway musicals, to classic music to new-age like music, to opera, to all-Elvis, etc... Right now they are broadcasting Christmas music 24 hours a day.

One of the neater things that you can also do, is change from your Sirius radio, to your local radio stations just by changing the channel on you car radio. I was afraid that you might have to go through some bothersome process, but it's as easy as just changing the station. Which, if you're creative can offer some neat possibilities. For example, the other day I was able to listen to a favorite local station of where we are staying, while at the same time being able to watch the scores of the games running across my sirius radio (no sound, just the scores). You also get used to seeing the name of the song that is being played, the singer who sang it, and the year it was released.

One other thing I want to mention, I picked up a home kit at Goodwill the other day for my Sirius radio (usually it goes for about 40 dollars, I got it for 7 - brand new). It says that you can connect your radio to your home stereo, and pick up all the stations in your home. What I also found out is that you can hook it up to a set of amplified speakers (like the kind you use for your computer), and can listen to your radio anywhere you want to (in the house, outside, at work, etc...)

Plus, you can also go on-line, use your screen name and password, and get many of your stations on your computer as well.

Anyway, I say all this to encourage anyone who might be considering getting a Sirius radio for Christmas. In my opinion it is definitely worth the money.

We bought a Ford Edge with Sirius installed about 8 months ago.

We are looking at purchasing radios for our other two vehicles for Christmas.

Once you try it, you'll never go back.

Aftre having the starmate (budget model reciever) for over a year DW bought me a stiletto model for my birthday in august. The newest version of the stiletto is awesome. If you are not going to be able to listen to the game live then you can program the reciever to record it.

Any song you hear playing, just press the heart icon button and it will save the song to the device.

It is also portable so you could listen to satelite whilst jogging or whatever. (clear view tothe sky of course). But you can take it into a store and listen to what you have recorded.

Also the live pause and rewind. Need to pump gas, just hit the pause button. It has about 40 minutes of memory for pause. Something like 100 hours of main memory.

I often schedule it to record 6 hours of music, from my favorite channel, when I am not in the car. Then play it back while driving. Forward fast-ing past the songs I do not like, and saving the good ones as I listen to them.

When traveling there is nothing better than satelite.

For $500 you can be a lifetime subscriber, or just pay the $12.99 a month. Wait, I think we pay that for two recievers. One in my car one on DWs.

How do you keep track of stations?

How do you find a station you want to listen to? (from Football to the talk radio)

How do you know what is available? and how long does it take to connect to that station?

I love my siruis. Where else can I have Broadway (77); Margaritaville (31); ESPN Radio (120) and the 80's (8) all in one spot :D It's awesome

We love Sirius!

I bought one for DH since he drives so much for work. Recently, we got another and it came with a boombox. DH uses the boombox when he is in his office.

We pay $22 a month for both and it is money well spent.

The receiver will tell you what station you are on, who is on that station, etc. It doesn't take any time to connect to the station (just like a regular radio).
You can program your favorite stations or just scroll through. They do have a list of all station you can use as a reference.

It was awesome to have on the drive to WDW. We never lost a station or had to worry about finding something to listen to.

Its super easy!! Its just like a radio once you figure out what you like you can program it. Its very easy to navigate.

I bought a kit at Target for 12.00!!! Its the super budget kit and I do plan to upgrade to another one soon because the more expensive models have some great features BUT I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!

My Dh's best friend added us to his account, there is some deal once you get an account, you can then add up to four other people for like 8.95 a month, so he just put us on his instead of us getting our own account.

We love ours too. We have one in my car & one in DH's truck. I usually put it on one of the kid stations in the morning while taking #1DS to school and the rest of the time it's on one of my channels. We also love that we can listen to a football game if we aren't at home and want to know what is happening.
I just programmed the 2 Christmas music channels (2 & 86) in my receiver :santa:

Another lover here. We only have one receiver, which I got my DH for last Christmas. But he lets me use it in my car when I have long trips like yesterday picking up my DD from school. It's awesome!

I noticed that channel 2 is Christmas music yesterday but I can't listen til tomorrow, personal policy :D

I am addicted to my Sirius. I hope the all Springsteen channel is temporary, but other than that I'm thrilled. It's well worth every penny. It will be interesting to see what happens to programming when the XM merger is complete.

Sigh...I WANT to get DH Sirius for Xmas but I'll admit I've overwhelmed at the process of getting what I want.
Maybe the DIS band of Sirius lovers can help me out??? I need everything that will allow DH to have radio IN CAR and IN OFFICE. He has strict internet filters, so playing satellite over internet is not an option for work.

Can anyone offer suggestions?

Well, first off, if he can't listed through the web then you should know that you have to pay for a subscription for each receiver you have - car AND office. You can't use two different radios on the same account.

I love Sirius! Just look at my signature! :thumbsup2 There are many other things I would give up before I gave up my Sirius. It is the greatest thing. Right now I have a plug and play Sportster Replay in my car, but I am going to get the chip to convert my GM XM radio to Sirius. :cool1: Then DH can use my extra cradle in his patrol car for his radio.

If you get a plug and play receiver like Sportser 4, he could use it in both places. At work though he will need line of sight for the antenna to the satellite. That might be tricky.

A great site for information are the forums at www.siriusbackstage.com. And a great place to purchase Sirius receivers is http://www.tss-radio.com/

Dh just got me a Satellite 100 for my birthday last week...he's installing the car kit in my car this weekend!

I like it but so far it only works outside...not in my office (although I've been listening online) or in our house. I do have the availability to listen w/ WiFi at home though so I may do that until we get a home kit.

I just bougt a new car on Friday, and although it's not equipped with Sirius, it does have XM radio and I love it (I'm already hooked on the channel that broadcasts the old time radio dramas that use to air live during the 1940's and 50's)!!:cloud9:

Does anyone know what the difference is between Sirius and XM? I have heard talk of a merger between the two, so I guess it doesn't really matter, but I'm just curious....:confused3

The main reason I went with Sirius over XM is the sports they each offer. XM gives you all the MLB games, whereas Sirius gives you all the NFL and NBA games. Even though I love baseball, getting the NFL was my main concern (plus, now that the Celtics are finally playing good ball again, getting the NBA was an added bonus).
Besides the sports, the programs do seem pretty similar. Sirius also gives you the old time radio dramas. It should be interesting to see what the new offerings might be once to the two companies merge. I heard something about more affordable rates (starting as low as 6.99 a month), but I'm really not sure at this point.

You can get a home antenna for use with the smaller radios. Just bring it in from the car to your home or office. Plug in the power and antenna. the Home antenna has a cord about 50 feet long. Just put it in a window facing the direction they reccomend for your location. In chicago I think they tell you to face it southwest.

The web feature for listening has all the music and most or all of the talk. But not all the sports. I don't think I can get teh local bears radio online.

Boo's Mom, I have a Sportster that I can use in my car and in my house. The intent was to let me use it at work, but there is no clear area for me to get reception. So unfortunately, I cant get it at work.

DH and I love our Sirius, I dont touch regular radio. He even bought me a Stiletto to use when I am at sports with the girls. I love it.

Sirius came with my car for 12/months free. In my driver information panel I can see the name of the station but no where do I have an option to see the title and band. I wish I could though. Oh well, its free for now.
