Sir EJ and David Furnish formalize their union

I went to the wedding of my cousin and his partner about a month ago so in a way he beat old Elton to it. It wasn't a legal ceremony because he'd got his dates mixed. When they planned the wedding they thought the law would have been changed by then, so they were advised by the registrar to go ahead and do the legal bit later. It was a lovely commitment service in a beautiful hotel with about 120 people, bridesmaids and all the trimmings. As my cousin's partner said no one knew what to expect because it hadn't been done before but it was a brilliant and memorable day.

My sister was involved in setting up the new law and process for this. She has put in so much hard work so I hope everything goes smoothly.

The DTI (not who set this up) promoted the Elton John wedding as they wanted a high profile case on day 1. Not like the Government to spin some PR....

Sorry, but have absolutely no reason to see these "partnerships" as a good thing. Of course, I will now be pilloried for having my own opinion, but I really do not care.

I am not going to sit here and justify my feelings either, some things are best left unsaid, especially as the "grown-ups" watch these threads like hawks.

I must agree with Ade here.

I'm very uncomfortable with these partenerships being referred to as weddings.

I agree with you Ade.

I for one think it's wonderful that gay couples can make a legal commitment to each other like this :flower:

I chose to get married in a registry office as I'm athiest and didn't want to be married 'in the eyes of god' but I feel sorry for gay couples that would like to have a choice of the legal commitment (like a registry office marriage) or get married in church. Those who are religious can't do this, but why someone would want to be part of an institution that spurns them is beyond me.

I agree with Ade and co.
This is not a Marriage, they are a legal distribution of goods only.
Its the same way as the destruction in the English language of the word "gay"

However, as its now an arrestable offence in the UK to have your own views on Buggery and homosexuality these days, I will say no more.

the only ones who are rubbing their hands with glee are the lawyers when these "unions" come tumbling apart.

I think its great, why shouldnt gay people get married??! We are all the same and we all deserve the same rights. I think its small minded to say these marriages wont last, why wont they???? I wish them all the best.

I think this thread is best closed Mods :)
Given that views will be polarised in opposite directions and tollerance does not seem to be the watch words these days, it is best that we remember that children also read these boards.

Working in the Government it is a job well done if the process works. ]

Hopefully from April we can get benefit claims for Civil Partnerships online. No opinions from me whether it is right or wrong.

and then we can pretend that none of this matters and that our children are best left uneducated and unaware?????

PC lobby ahoy

Guys

This thread can continue AS LONG as everybody remembers this is a family board and please be careful of your wording, any inappropriate posts will be deleted.

Thank you

I would doubt with all the publicity that our children are unaware.

That is a very dangerous post, slavery is a descendant of the word SLAV, the first mass use of slavery during the early middle ages, and there are still countreaies out there where womedn are not allowed to vote, just as there are countries where homosexuality is punishable by death. Just because you do not agree, does not make you right.

At the end of the day, some of us agree, some do not. However each of us must be allowed to voice our opinions, otherwise we become part of a totalitarian police state, and I am sure none of us want that.

The point that myself and Obi-wan were making is that by hiding the thread the chance for all members, be they children or adults, to try to form an opinion is lessened, and open debate surely leads to gfreater understanding, and often tolerance.

This thread has really upset me. I naively believed that Disney fanatics were kind, sensitive people with a childlike openness and acceptance of life. Some of these comments are so bigoted and narrow-minded. So, you're straight - well, congratulations - aren't you clever?? I didn't realise there were so many people - and especially on the DIS - who still think homosexual = pervert. Shame on you. It's not being gay that makes anyone a bad person, it's being prejudiced in all its many manifestations.

Cyrano calmly suggests this thread is locked as it seems there is no middle ground on this issue, and Obi calls him/her a lefty :confused3

Seems to me woman are mostly the tolerant ones in our society. If men didn't dominate and treat women as second class citizens in ALL religions,if woman had the power men have, I'd stake my life on the fact the world would be a more peaceful and happier place to live in and for ALL our children.

Many on here despise homosexual couples but the whole DIS was all gung ho for the war.....as the Americans would say,go figure :rolleyes1

Sorry guys

I have read enough, the thread is upsetting, the words are getting worse, and its time to call it a day.
