Our Pediatrician just recently put my daughter on Singulair to help with her asthma and allergies. She has been on Pulmicort and Albuterol for the last 3 years, but it hasn't been very efficient and she coughs constantly, so the Ped said to try Singulair.

So my question is does your child use this? How has it worked for them so far? Thanks!

DS1 has been on Singulair for about 3 years now, ever since his first asthma attack put him in the hospital around his 2nd birthday.

In general, it's helped out. He's only really had one or two serious attacks since he's been on it and these days, we're able to treat him at home with a nebulizer, so we don't have to head to an ER everytime he gets a cough. :)

My son takes Singular during allergy season. It seems to help him.

We also treat our daughter with a Neb at home when she has an attack. Does your son take one everyday? Thanks

My son uses Singulair.

But he also uses Advair and Zyrtec. If I remove even "one" of these medicines, he goes downhill. They all seem to work well together, but each of them alone are worthless. I guess each med adds its own value.

Yep, one pill a day (unless we forget   )

Yes - my dd (13) takes one pill before bedtime each night. Mainly allergies for her, but the cough had gotten so persistant that her ped was suspecting mild asthma. She never had a full-blown asthma attack. The Singulair has completely cleared up her symptoms. If she forgets & misses a dose we see the symptoms the next day.

DS is on advair and at his next asthma check-up I was going to inquire about Sigulair instead of Advair. Advair works great for him, but I am somewhat concerned about the long term issues since it is a sterioid. The twins were on it for a while too, but they have been off it for over a year and are doing well. We tried taking DS off it, but he still needs to be on something for his asthma.

DS14 uses his Albuterol inhaler before he exercises, but was still having asthma problems at football practice when they did a lot of running. So his ped put him on Singulair too, and he says he hasn't had a problem since.

I've been on Singulair for about 7 years now and haven't had a single asthma attack since I started. (OK, granted I'm not a small child but thought I'd share my positive experience.)

My 2 year old neice and I use it for allergies and it works great for us. She was on the whole round of Zyrtec, Claritin, etc. and nothing else worked for her.

I've been on it for several years and haven't seen a huge change but I continue to try it =) I'm also on albuteral, advair, and zyrtec.

Thank you, everyone, for your posts, I do appreciate them all! Savannah has to take one pill a day as well. It makes me feel better to see so many say it has helped your child (or you!) since they have been on it. I am hoping it does the same for Savannah! Thanks again!

my middle DD (8 years old) is on Singulair too....1 pill each night. She started out with just allergies (tree pollen, cats) and we went through several allergy medications before we settled on Allegra and Nasonex. Last summer she developed a cough that just wouldn't go away. The allergist suspected allergy induced asthma and put her on Pulmicort. Afdter several weeks, the cough didn't improve and her switched her to the Singulair which made a dramatic difference. She has been on it ever since and rarely has any asthma symptoms

I've used Advair for about a year, and it helped a lot, but not 100%. Since I've added Singulair I have weeks without symptoms. It's been a Godsend for me.

I was taking singulair but developed some side effects including agitation right from the beginning. The night i started having homicidal thoughts was the last night i ever took the medicine.

My 10 year old daughter has taken it for several years - she has asthma and allergies - the singulair really keeps her in control. One a day.

My 15 yo DS has allergies and asthma and has taken Singulair for a few years now. It has worked so well for him.

I don't have time to go get allergy shots, so I end up taking Allegra-D, Flonase, Mucinex and Singulair every day. I hate taking so many pills each day, but it has really kept me from getting sinus infections so I do it anyway.

I have been on Advair and Singulair for many years, and have not had a severe asthma attack since I started.

My youngest daughter and son both take Singulair chewables and it works great for both of them as well.
