My 67 widowed mom will be travelling with us at the end of this month.

Can anyone tell me about the Singles lunch and activities on board?

As a solo cruiser I have attended several of the singles lunches. Its a chance to enjoy a meal and chat with your fellow passengers. I've experienced both good and bad singles lunches but that's just the way it goes. An example of a bad lunch is when only a three/four people attend or when no one wants to talk, however for the most part they are okay and I enjoy attending them occasionally.

In anyone's experience, would she feel out of place? Is it mostly single parents? Or are there grandparents as well?

I attend them when I travel solo and there are people from all ages that attend male and female. You may see it also referred to as solo lunch or single/solo. Many times there is a CM who attends as well.

I've been several times, all were attended by one or two CMs who tried to keep the conversation going...the ship's doctor attended once (older gentleman) who was very similar to Doc on the love boat...it was really funny...
All were attended by just a few women (except for the doctor)...it was a nice lunch...

I've been to the Singles/Solos lunch a number of times. All times that I've attended, it's been hosted by a Cruise Staff crew member. Some sailings it's had better attendance than others. I've seen a mix of ages and genders. I've never encountered one characterized by silence, but that's because I'm a bit of a yapper.

I attended one by accident. I actually came into the restaurant talking with a family I knew from another message board and from on the cruise, they were part of a group table arrangement. I got sat at the "singles table" a few minutes after I was seated there I was joined by others and a member of the cruise staff who tried to plan the rest of our day for us. Personally I wasn't really impressed by it and kind of ate mostly in silence as I didn't want to commit to anything at that time. In hindsight I wish I had asked to be seated with the family I had come in with.
