we will be staying at POR july 8th and 9th while waiting to go on our disney cruise. the thing is we want to do the parks all day and my oldest daughter will be joining us on the 9th around 9pm when her plane lands at mco. i'm worried i may be to tired to drive from a park to pick her up that late. is there any info on how much a taxi would cost from the airport to POR or some alternate way to go. any help would be greatly appreciated.

How old is your daughter? Are you a male or female? I know if it were my daughter, I would not want her to be traveling alone with a stranger. However, while I am a female, not knowing the area well enough and being at the parks all day, I may not want to take the drive either. Tuff one!

I guess I would probably arrange with one of the shuttle services at the airport. Chances are, that they may have other passengers going to the resorts at the same time.

Mears is most likely to have other people on the bus/in the van and it is the cheapest option available. One way transfers are 17.00 and the desk is easy to find. A taxi or towncar is going to run about $40 for the trip with tip. Not sure if you wanted to spend that much. She would then be alone in the car with the driver.

i know what you mean about traveling alone, that is a concern of mine also even though my daughter is 25. how does it work to take mears? do you need to make advance reservations? will there be other people on the same transport? tia

You can purchase a transfer online before you go, which will save time at the counter when you get there or just wait and buy the transfers at the airport. I have heard that the desk is not the best staffed counter at night, though.

I am a 24 y/o female and despite the fact that I have travelled to Africa alone, I would still be nervous getting into a cab alone. I know that nothing should happen, but there are a lot of weirdos in the world and I wouldn't want to chance that I get one as a driver. At least with Mears, there will be other people, most likely families, around since they usually wait for a few people to fill the bus or van before leaving and go to multiple hotels for everyone.

I would suggest going with one of the more reputable towncar services in Orlando. Here are some below.

Starline
Trans Orlando
Carey
Empire International
Showtime

Just type their name into any search engine, I'm sure you will find their website.

Not sure where you got those companies. The towncar companies that get metioned a lot here include:
FL Tours (board sponsor)
Tiffany
Happy Limo

I don't recall ever reading a single post regarding any of the companies you list.

For one person Mears would be the cheapest but might take an extra 30-60 minutes while you wait for them to fill the vehicle and make some stops.

Wow, I travel to wdw 2-5x a year and read lots of disneyworld travel info and never read a report or saw any ads for these companies!

I recommend Fl Tours, or Tiffany if you want a towncar.

Personally I would use Mears when traveling alone. You can just get the transfer from the counter by baggage claim. Its easily found and if not just ask. It may take a bit longer and she will likely go to a couple other resorts before yours but will probably be traveling with other families in a van or even a bus.

thanks for all the great info. i think i'll try and get some information on mears, however i'm still wondering if i should just leave the parks and get her myself because i know i'll be worried with her coming in alone. does anyone know just how long the drive is from the resorts and parks to MCO going in on rt 417?

I think you could do it in 40 minutes or less each way depending on traffic - so no more than two hours total. I will ask dh later as he drives and I go directly into vacation mode once we hit the rental car (sorry!).

I do travel alone with my two dd's and am completely comfortable with both Mears and Tiffany Town car wth me and two young girls, fwiw. I can't speak for the other services as I have only used those two. For a single younger person going one way I would probably choose mears. If you feel strongly enough about it then its really only an hour or two out of your vacation and dd would probably love to see your face at the airport! I guess it depends on the kind of kid you have and what's comfortable for you both...

Have a wonderful trip.

If I were in your shoes, I would drive to the airport to pick her up.
The drive, using SR 417 South is no more than 45 minutes tops. Knowing that one of the kids is picked up safely would keep me from putting that into the hands of someone else, even though the towncar services and Mears are safe.

i gave the idea lots of thought about using mears and i coulndn't overcome the urge to worry about the whole thing, so i'll feel alot better about going to mco and getting her myself. thanks again everyone for helping me to sort it out. we're just all so excited about going on vacation that we're not thinking too clearly.
