Single stroller question?

I am debating on what to do about a stroller. We have always brought our own double stroller to Disney. But this next trip, our DD's will be 3 1/2 and 5 1/2. They really wanted to walk a lot last year, so I know they will want to walk even more this time, especially my 5 1/2 year old. I was thinking about renting a single stroller for the week. This way the girls could have some place to sit and rest for a minute if needed. Do you think they could both fit in it at the same time if needed? Of course not for long periods of time, but if we were leaving and getting through the crowd, I would feel much better knowing they both were right in the stroller!! What do you think? Anyone have pictures of 2 in a single stroller?? Thanks for any help/suggestions!!

They will definately both need a stroller. I plan on cramming my 6 year old in a stroller for as long as I can. There are a ton of double stroller swaps over on the budget boards. Double stroller rental fees are so expensive that I have seen people rent a wheelchair and push 2 kids around in it.

I rented a double for 3 kids, but apparently it fits four:

Our girls are similar ages- and we have the same dilemma. We have a couple of double stollers- (two styles) but DD5 thinks she's too cool to ride in one and they are cumbersome and heavy! The double stroller rental at the parks is OUTRAGEOUS now, so we found that it was cheaper to buy a "Sit and Stand" stoller. We bought the Joovy Caboose at Babies R Us. We've been using it around the neighborhood the last couple of weeks and it is PERFECT for us! Your 3 year old can ride comfortably- take the snack tray off to give her more room and the option to hop out when you want her to have that freedom. The five year old can sit, stand or walk! We love this stoller! It has gotten the seal of approval from our five year old, and she thinks it gives her the chance to wal when she wants and to rest when she gets tired. Good Luck!

Thank you all for your help...the sit n stand does sound like a good idea. I'll have to check one out!!!!

I don't think they both could fit in the single. We ended up buying a double jogging stroller for our upcoming trip. We had originally planned on renting a stroller at Disney but then I saw the rental prices (when we decided to rent we were going off the prices before the increase). Our jogger stroller cost us less than what the rental would end up costing us while we are there.

DD usually ends up walking but this way there is room for her to sit if she decides she needs to rest for a while. We probably would have just taken our umbrella stroller but there isn't room enough to store anything (only major complaint we have about the stroller).

Good luck finding one.

I have seen 2 kids in a wheelchair together, but they don't look very comfortable. The rental wheelchairs have a sling seat, so the weight of 2 kids slides them both to the center of the sling, right next to each other (the seat is similar to a director's chair and is made of brown or dark blue vinyl - so not the most comfortable material to sit on).
If the kids are sitting all the way back, the seat is too long and the edge of the seat comes somewhere beyond their knees, so they can't bend their knees. If they sit forward so they can bend their knees over the edge of the seat, the foot rests are way too low for the feet to rest on them (they are not removable or able to be adjusted) and the backrest is too far back to lean against. There are armrest, but depending on the size of the child, they will almost always be too high (anywhere from ear height to shoulder height to mid-upper arms height.
I've seen kids trip when getting out or in because the seat is so high for them and the footrests get in the way. Also, children many of the kids who could get in and out of a stroller by themselves will probably need to be lifted in and out of a rental wheelchair because of the height and the footrests being in the way.
The last thing to keep in mind is that the rental wheelchairs weigh 40-50 pounds empty, so even if your kids are not in it, you will be pushing a pretty heavy weight around the park. IMHO, the money you might save would not be worth the disadvantages of a wheelchair.
