Single Rider Line cheaters

We were in the parks last week, and saw a few instances of people taking advantage of the Single Ride line to ride together, instead of waiting in the long Standby line like the rest of us.

The first was on Rock n Roller Coaster. Standby wait was 60 minutes. Two guys were in the single rider line, but when they got put into the lines for each car (separate cars), one waited until he was in the same loading group as the other, then one just walked over to the same car as the other and they rode together. It was pretty damn annoying, since thanks to that my family group got split up, and didn't get our picture together. Had I been paying closer attention I would have held my daughters back, but by the time I realized what had happened, they were in the car & ready to go.

The second was on Expedition Everest. Standby was 50 minutes. A group of cheerleaders was in the single rider line, and when the CM waved one of them forward to go with a group of 3, two of them actually walked up, and got seated together. This didn't get anything out of sync, since they weren't queuing up multiple groups for each car at that time.

So what should the parks do about cheating single riders? The SR lines in Universal seem to keep a closer eye on this - I saw a group of two in SR at Gringotts try to ride together, and the CM there told them to either get back to the spot they were told to, or exit the ride.

Wow - I use the single rider lines all the time with my daughter (we do not sit together .... Although there have been a couple of times we've wound up in the same TT car) and I've never seen this happen. I'm sure it does, but if it were rampant I think I'd have noticed. I have seen people ducking under the rope into the FP line at Kilimanjaro and that got my blood boiling ... But in the end, I don't think it happens often enough to impact the lines much, so I don't think Disney would want to create an unpleasant atmosphere by cracking down too much on it ... And by that I guess I mean that if its not a big issue, they don't want to make a scene ... Disney really likes to keep the "Happiest Place on Earth" vibe going as much as possible.

That stinks really. We ride the single rider lines and as @LaurenT mentioned ... Sometimes we sit together and some times we are not even on the same vehicle load. That's the chance you take if you are not a true single rider. However, if there was a major issue, I'm sure it would be addressed.

I would not be surprised if this occurs frequently.

Cast Members are typically nice and would not necessarily go out of their way to prevent two single-riders from riding together.

Also, this Thread may simply insight bad behavior in others.

But ya'know, I believe people are typically more honest than that and I don't sweat the small stuff like this.

About that picture being disturbed by those pesky single-riders - getting a good photo is luck of the draw, unless you request the front row.

I think if this happens a lot you should email them and complain, at least bring it to their attention as something that needs addressing with the CMs

There is nothing luck of the draw about it. If you have four people, you need to make sure your two rows are in the same ride car (not the back of one ride car and the front of the next one).

But a single-rider would not disrupt that plan.

Single-riders are used to fill-in empty seats.

Single-riders are not supposed to be the first person determining how many come off the stand-by line next; it's the other way around.

Small children must be in the front row if they want to be in most pictures, and like any photograph, getting a good shot is luck of the draw.

I have not witnessed any single rider cheaters but then again I don't pay much attention. But after reading this thread I will definitely keep my eyes open and, if I see any line cheaters, I'll bring it to the attention of both the CM managing the line as well as guest services. I have no tolerance for stuff like that. I would probably also make the offending parties aware of my plans to report them.

Yea now that our dd is older we always use the the single rider lines. My husband goes first then our daughter in the middle and then me..

It just makes sense to do it this way if we don't have front of the line access, fp+ or what ever... sometimes she gets to ride with him, some times with me, some times separate.

OP I can see how you are annoyed but it does happen where we get to have two people together.

During our trip last week my son and I did the RnR single rider line during Famtasmic when the lines were lighter. We rode it about 4 times. 3 of the 4 times we were on the same run and once we actually ended up sitting next to each other... Dumb luck I guess but the lines were light too. I think standby was 30 min

I saw this happen in front of me at RnR a couple years ago. A mom and her son. When they get to the front she told the CM that "now he's afraid to ride by himself." The CM had them step aside and wait. I'm not sure how long as I was motioned on.

Sure it will, if it was the same type situation as the OP mentioned. If you have RnRC, and you have three in your group, and they send one guest from the single rider line to fill out the car, but that single rider has a buddy who stalled until his friend got there and then they took two seats together, that third person in the family isn't going to get in that car.
I have seen CMs telling guests that they can't ride together when they are in that single rider line. And I have seen people argue with the CM. I stood there, watching as two young men tried to talk their way in together...I just turned to them and said...'If my friend and I didn't feel like waiting in this line, I guess maybe we should have tried the single rider line too...oh, yeah...it's for SINGLE riders, not pairs!!!'. The CM just grinned at me. Those two young men at least had the decency to look chagrined! Then they tried to excuse it by saying they 'thought' it was a line for those that wanted to ride a 'single' time!!! Uh-huh.

Not at all on RnR. Each car of 4 people gets an individual picture. And the picture is taken from high enough up that no one blocks anyone else. And when you have a group of 3 or 4 on RnR, they do line you up on the same car. If the 4 of us had loaded at the same time, as we should have, we would have gotten a good picture of all 4 of us. Instead we have 2 pictures- one of 2 of my daughters and the 2 SR cheats, and another of me and my other daughter and 2 other people.

This is sort of tangentially related to this topic...

So my fam and I have never tried this before because when we did single rider the couple of times we did it, we just went where the CM told us to.

But is it possible to go to single rider and then request a front row seat for when the front row is missing a person? Or is that also not allowed?

I'm at a loss.

If you can manage to put an entire family into one car, then it is not random selection of seat assignment.

If seat assignment are not random (not luck), then the OP never should have had his family broken into two cars.

I have never seen a Cast Member refuse to keep a family together.

Yes single riders can request the front. The CM will have them stand aside until they can work them into a front seat.

The CM's from what I've encountered are normally good about enforcing the single rider line.

On test track a couple months ago my group was next in line and in the single rider line a lady was called up to fill an empty seat. She had a younger child with her and said "well I want to ride in the same car with my child", the CM told her she's in the single rider line, if she wants to ride together she'll need to get out of line and go in standby. If not they'll be separated.

I'm sure some CM's cave in as they'd rather not deal with the headache of hearing people complain about being split up, even though they should know that already..but the CM's do know about it and try to enforce it to keep it fair for standby

WE were there last week and used single rider for TT. The cast members were were making announcements that all single riders would be separated. Once my daughter and I ended up in the same car me in front her in back. The second time i was in one car she in another. (which didn't matter since th e ride ended up breaking down.) I am sure there are single rider cheats but it was on this particular ride made very clear that single riders were single riders. They even separated a bride and groom who seemed shocked that being in the single rider line meant t hey would actually be riding singly.

When DH and I wanted to ride EE a second time before leaving the park, we hit up the single rider line. The CM told us we wouldn't be seated together and we knew that. Of course we would rather be seated together, but we would have waited in the regular standby line if it was that important. I don't remember if we were on the same train, but I know I sat next to a lady who apologized to me for her swearing during the ride. :rotfl:
