Single or double bed

A full-size on a loft frame. Lots of sleeping space, lots of floor space. Ever since we got a low-loft for my middle DS (and a bunkbed for the oldest/youngest), I am sold on lofts! Reclaim the floor space!

My daughter slept in a twin bed until she went away to college and when she got to college the sorority house also had twin beds. She didn't get a larger bed until she graduated and moved out on her own. Never once heard her complain about it. We also had a huge finished basement so if she wanted friends over they could spread out down there.

We just bought a new bed for my son. He started out wanting a double, ended up with a twin when we went shopping. In the end, floor space in his smallish room won out. (His choice) And he got a cool bed (it has storage underneath and a bookshelf along the side. While there isn't a lot of room for a teen to spread out in a twin, dorm beds aren't any bigger if you are planning on sending them off to college.

I'd lay out a sheet on the floor of the room (or string) and get a good idea of how much room a larger bed will take up. If the room fits it - and you still have room for a dresser or whatever else she wants in the room, a full is very nice. Both my kids have smallish rooms, while they will fit fulls, things would be tight.

My DD 13 has a queen in a small room and loves it. I would want more space, but she says it's cozy. Like someone else said once they hit 12 or 13 they don't need much space. She moved into the smallest of our 3 bedrooms, because it had a Jack and Jill bathroom with a large vanity area. She spends all her time either looking in the mirror or painting her nail. LOL

What about a twin with a pop up trundle? Then you get the best of both worlds.

My DD is almost 13 and has a twin. Mainly due to space issues. She fits fine in it so I don't see it as a problem. I will however be looking for one with a trundle soon because when she has friends sleep over they insist on sleeping in the same bed. Two teens in a twin just is not working, lol.

This. My DS (almost 8!) just complained about wanting a bigger bed, but his twin-size bed will have to suffice. The next bed we get him will be a trundle so he can use it for sleepovers - also when my DD (almost 2) gets older he claims to want to share a room with her...while I don't expect that sentiment to last (LOL), the trundle would allow them to sleep together when they want to without having to actually share.

I vote double if it will fit. More room is better in a bed in my opinion.

She's got a double bed now - does she want more floor space or is she ok with the current amount of space? Is she tall? If she's tall, I'd go for a twin XL, otherwise a double. We got my dd12 a double bed last year, she loves it.

But it's not a larger bed - she has a full size bed right now.

A twin is 39" wide. A full is 54" wide. They are the same length. So, you're talking 15" of floor space. Is the extra 15" going to make a difference?

I had a double...same mattress from the time I was out of the crib until the time that I moved out of the house at 22. I probably should have gotten a new mattress...since I inherited it from my older sister (who was 5 years older than me)

WOAH.... looking back on it... I slept on the same mattress for like... 18 years?! And my sister slept on it for 5 years before I got it?
