Today puts me in the single digits for my trip!! 9 more days and I'll be in WDW.

But, unfortunately, today is my last day at work; I have been laid off. :sad2:

On the plus side, DH and I have discussed the situation and I'll take the summer off, I did get a decent package and I'll file for un-employment.

And...what better time to spend "my birthday" in WDW!!!! :dance3:

Yes; life does go on and in the long run I'll be fine. But right now, at this very minute I'm typing this from my desk and this will more than likely be my last post from this computer. And that makes me sad.

Thank you all for listening.

I'm so sorry to hear you've been laid off. I've been there before, and it's totally understandable that you're feeling down about it. It sounds like this Disney trip couldn't come at a better time to help lift your spirits. Nothing like some pixie dust when it's most needed!

:grouphug:

I was hoping for a summer class to teach, and that didn't happen. I hope you do enjoy your WDW trip.

Try to put the "real world" out of your mind and enjoy your trip! I hope your job search goes well. :goodvibes

Enjoy your trip--I hope it's a good break for you.

BTW I lived in the Bronx for 5 years, and the last time I went to WDW, the very first CM I saw was from there--he said he loved Florida but was having to do a lot of adjusting as well.

I am so sorry you have lost your job. We are also going through the same situation and just got back from our trip to VB and AKV. We have also listed our DVC contracts for sale. I am hoping that some miracle comes through and I can get a great paying job soon. Then maybe I can keep one of our contracts and remain DVC members but just with a lot less points.

We were 'flamed' for deciding to go ahead with our vacation (no themeparks, shopping, all meals in the villa and just hanging out at the resort) but it really did us a world of good. We enjoyed just spending time with the family at the swimming pool, community hall, checking out DVD's and games to play in the villa. One person even remarked how boring a trip like that would be but we had a very relaxing and wonderful time. Now we are back and ready to tackle things head on. I spent no additional money than I would have here at home. Even that extra tank of gas that I had planned on wasn't needed.

So go and enjoy yourself! When you get back you will have a new gusto for doing whatever you may need to do once you get home. And happy birthday! This could be your opportunity to learn something new that you have always wanted to study or to land that perfect job that we are all looking for! Good luck to you!:goodvibes

Thanks to all of you for your kind words.

This trip is going to be my "mental health" trip. I'll celebrate my birthday there, wear my "Birthday Pin" and have a good time.

Then, when I come home and the real world is in my face, begin doing what I need to do.

Again, thanks for listening.

Have a great trip and good luck with the job search when you return home-rested and rejuvenated. :)
Friskykitten, sorry you were "flamed"-most of don't know what we'd do in the same situation. Best of luck to you and your family.

Enjoy your WdW vacation and dont let Mr. Unemployment get you do...this is the big apple after all....you will get a job soon...Im sure of it:wizard:and here is some pixie dust just for you:grouphug:

I am sorry that you have been laid off.

Sometimes, when one thinks that something happens that's the worst, it could turn out to be the best. You may find an amazing job after the summer that gives you more than you have now.

Best advice I can offer...

Take the vacation, enjoy it, come back in a better state of mind and ignore all the bad news. It's not a great job environment, but its also not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, and every day we start to move back in the right direction.

Mrs, WDW,
I have no advice, only my sincere wish for a magical birthday and a vacation that reinforces how important one-day-at-a-time is. Best of luck when you return to the world of job searching.

Again my most sincere thanks for all these wonderful replies. There's something to be said about "Disney people" and that's "great".

Today I'm at work until noon, then I head to the allergies then home. The sadness that I felt when I first made this post is slowly turning now to "exceitment" over my long awaited and now NEEDED trip.

I can't let this bring me down and I won't. Because now, I have to begin packing for my Birthday Trip to Walt Disney World!!!!!!:dance3:

I agree...make the best of it and have a great time! Our DD had her airfare paid for so she could go to WDW with us in January. After Thanksgiving, she got laid off. She thought about cancelling the trip, but we convinced her that as along as she had no other costs involved (we bought her Disney passes, and paid for her food), she should go and have a great time. It turned out to be her best Disney trip ever. I suspect the same will be true for you.

Good for you! I'm not a big fan of giving advice, but I truly think you have the right attitude. Keeping it is the tougher part but as long as you do it, employers notice it on interviews and I've always said it's 80% attitude and 20% smarts. With the right attitude, you can do anything!

Have a great birthday in the worlds most magical place and enjoy yourself completely! You deserve it!!! I'm cheering for you!:cheer2:

Well I pulled out the special "WDW" bag that has the things we "only use in WDW" and I'm getting ready. Yesterday is behind me and I'm just looking forward! :thumbsup2

Thanks again everyone.....I'm ok. I'm really ok. :wave2:
