Help with my menu, am I missing anything? Here is what I have got planned:

Turkey
Mashed potatoes
Corn
Stuffing
Canned Cranberry sauce (love this stuff)
Gravy
Rolls
light egg nog

Not sure what to do for desserts, we will have a pumpkin pie.

ANything that I am missing for Thanksgiving? It is just going to be the two of us this year. :)

Can anyone recommend a good (affordable) wine to pair with turkey?

we always have sparkling apple cider and put it in whine glasses. I like your menu and think it is great!! Maybe a greanbean casserole too ..... Haven't had one of those in a while.

I think you copied my menu! My son likes the buttered corn, so I get that from the frozen food section. We also have sweet potatoes and ambrosia. Sometimes I will add green bean casserole.

We usually have pumpkin pie for dessert. I will also add pumpkin cheesecake this year.

I don't have any advice on the wine though.

Green bean casserole! (green beans with French's onions baked in! Delicious! It's not Thanksgiving without them at our house! They are my DS23's favorite!

Also, sausage in the stuffing! Yum!

Dessert -- pecan pie? Pumpkin pie? Apple pie? Or maybe cheesecake? This year, I went to Village Inn and pre-ordered French Silk Pie, which I know is not traditional, but we all like it. LOL!

I think I'm going to get some Prosecco for Thanksgiving.

We had some last year and it was great!! I guess our menu is a little eclectic. We have turkey with homemade cornbread stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, butternut squash, roasted root vegetables, green beans (just steamed), maybe brussels sprouts, peas (for the kids) lots of wine, pumpkin and apple crumb pie. Yum-o!! We like lots of vegetables! Oh, and cranberry sauce (homemade). I better get busy!!

We always have pretzel salad. Never heard of it until we moved here, but had it at a neighbor's one year for Thanksgiving and now we have it every year.

It's a pretzel crust with whip cream/sugar/cream cheese mixture on top, then topped off with jello w/ strawberries in it. My DS considers it his fruit/vegetable.;)

I just realized I probably shouldn't eat it this year, cause I've been doing the vegetarian thing for a couple of months and I guess gelatin is a meat product. I might end up cheating on this one.

I love canned cranberry sauce, too!

Thanks everyone! ANyone have a recipe for Green Bean Casserole, and butternut squash or sweet potatoes? I could look one up on line, but I prefer one that someone can vouch for.

Green bean casserole--green beans, cream of mushroom soup, mix, bake. Apply French's Fried onions the last 5 minutes, serve.

Green bean casserole recipe

1 can (10 3/4 ounces) Campbell's® Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup (Regular or 98% Fat Free)

1/2 cup milk

1 teaspoon soy sauce

Dash ground black pepper

4 cups cooked cut green beans

1 1/3 cups French's® French Fried Onions

1.Stir the soup, milk, soy sauce, black pepper, beans and 2/3 cup onions in a 1 1/2-quart casserole.
2.Bake at 350°F. for 25 minutes or until the bean mixture is hot and bubbling. Stir the bean mixture. Sprinkle with the remaining onions.
3.Bake for 5 minutes or until the onions are golden brown.

I also NEED to have turnips for Thanksgiving. For desserts we're having lemon meringue pie, key lime pie, chocolate pie, cupcakes, ice cream and pumpkin crunch dessert.

you could do the marshmallow topped sweet potatoes.

My favorite though;
Cut sweet potatoes in about 3rds (yellow ones, skin on) boil 'til tender but not mushy. Cool. Peel and slice about 1/8 to 1/4 each. Sprinkle bottom of casserole dish with brown suger, layer sliced potatoes at an angle one on top of the next. Top with more brown suger, pats of butter and raw chopped bacon. Bake at 350 'til bacon is cooked and rest is heated through.
This tastes amazying.

What is pumpkin crunch dessert? Sounds wonderful.

my all time favorite pumkin recipe;

Pumpkin Squares

Preheat oven to 350
Prepare a jellyroll pan

Cream together:
1 cup oil
2 cups sugar
2 cups pumpkin
4 eggs

Sift together:
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
Add to wet ingredients, pour into prepared jellyroll pan bake 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool, cut and ice.

Icing:
8oz cream cheese
½ cup butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 lb powdered sugar

I cut into 2in squares and use a decorating bag with a star tip to frost, but you can frost the entire jellyroll pan then cut.
